I’m going to give you my top three trade
tips on how to prolong the life of your
raised Planters now first of all you do
not lie them directly on the soil
because it’s actually soil that starts
the rotting process so what we do is we
lay them on a grit sand mix for to one
so that allows the moisture to run
through but it stops the soil from
touching your
sleepers and the second tip is always
make sure that you treat any cut or
exposed
[Music]
ends and number three is always protect
the inside of your sleepers using Black
Jack pain formerly known as bitchin you
also want to make sure that it is fully
dry before you start installing the soil
thank you so much for watching I’ll
speak to you a lot on the next one

Can you add them to MOT type 3 for a solid base and drainage?
When you say grit, what do you mean? Sorry if that's a stupid question there's just so much product to choose from
Done this project recently when we replaced rotten sleepers with new ones. Used all of those tips pulled together from your other vids and your recommendation of UC4 green sleepers. Final touch was a couple of coats of Barretine Wood Protector applied at the end which I intend to recoat every couple of years (5L goes a long way and itβs a quick job). Confident they will last a lot longer than 10 years thanks to your advice ππ»
Used engine oils a good (and free) alternative to bitumine
Thank you mate π β€
4-1 mix ainβt letting water through would need to be 6-1.
Amazing as always xx
Lots of problems with UC3 treated sleepers…They will rot within a very few years…Bitumen and/or plastic sheeting plus end grain treatment are a must for prolonging their life.. UC4 much better but with above treatment also…
Should have paineted the bottoms with blackjack too
What on earth is happening? You usually upload your immensely helpful videos the day AFTER I do my DIY job π thank you for posting this one the day BEFORE π
Sleepers look great at first, but after a couple of years, look rubbish!
Paint the wood before assembling the beds
