Relocating a 7 Year Old Citrus Tree

Hey,
I'm looking to relocate this 7 year old mandarin orange tree and move it few meters to the side.
Anyone has any advice? Is it even possible? Can it be done by hand or do I need some serious digging equipment?

I'm just starting to get into these things so any advice will be greatly beneficial.
Thanks!

  1. It can absolutely be done, although the tree might not be that happy. Depending on how much of the roots you remove you might need to prune the tree to balance them out

  2. Carefully dig around and pay attention to the surface roots citrus has plenty of those. Do a branch prune and if possible do it before growing season.
When i did the same thing to my citrus i dusted roots with rooting hormone and over winter in zone 7a/b roots are already fully recovered and by the looks of it filled up 55l planter difference is at least 70% improved root mass. Not sure if it was because the move in decent soil. I did transplant from soil in December to pot due to water logging.

    Edot: 4 year old kumquat.
