Jade plant I’ve had for 10 years is losing a lot of leaves

I've had this plant for a long time and repotted it over a year ago. It has been in this east-facing window for about a year. It seems like it's getting lots of new growth right now (pic three) but a ton of the lower leaves are turning yellow, shriveling and falling off and it's been doing this for about two months.

It's never done this before, it gets watered once a week and I thought the yellow leaves indicated over watering so I moved to every other week. Now even more leaves are becoming shriveled and it seems like it might be underwatered? I have no idea what's going on with this thing, or if it's just naturally losing old growth as it gets bigger but it feels like it's losing more leaves than it should. I may also just be stressing because it's only of my oldest/favorite plants and has always done extremely well until now. Any ideas?

After watering it once a week for so long id be concerned about root rot. Probably a good idea to check on the roots and if you find that they smell bad, are turning brown/squishy you’ll want to snip off any rotten roots with clean scissors. Whatever is left of the roots soak in a 3:1 water to hydrogen peroxide solution to help treat any lingering bacteria.

Then repot in a clean pot thats 1-2 inches bigger than the root system and has good drainage at the bottom with a well draining succulent soil mix and then wait about a week before watering it so the roots have a chance to establish themselves.

after that you’ll want to reduce watering to approximately once a month depending on your local climate conditions

Possible root rot, mine lost a lot of leaves when I overwatered, but I stopped and only water when TOTALLY dry, and it had a huge growth spurt after, I had to prune it and made about 10 baby plants from it
