Passive Clay Machine

My husband has created a clay machine with a passive water system to separate the clay from sand/dirt with as little interference from us as possible!

His first big invention that he has completed since moving and starting our homestead!

The water pump is a design my husband saw on YouTube a few years ago. Once I find the original video, I’ll be sure to leave the information below!

  1. Can you explain this a little further? I can’t seem to wrap my head around it. I get the want to remove the clay and water, but how does it work and what are the byproducts and how do you use them?

Can you share more pics, maybe a video? That sounds awesome!

This is an application of gravity sorting, a materials processing technique that is literally tens of thousands of years old. The most widely known application for this is probably gold sluice pans and gold sluice machines, used by gold miners to separate dense gold flakes from sand, silt and other grit.

While this obviously isn’t a new invention, it is a practical and useful application of the technique and looks like it was a fun DIY project, so kudos to you and your husband. 👍
