SAVING WATER AND NUTRIENTS USING SWALES – Weedy`s Garden Walkabout

In this episode from www.theweedygarden.com I explain what a swale is and how they benefit the garden by slowing down the water and holding onto nutrition in the soil under my fruit trees. It`s permaculture inspired and totally organic up here on the hill – far away from any town and even further from a city.

Enjoy and give thanks if you are thank FULL just by hitting the thanks button.
THANK YOU
Weedy

  1. I needed a Weedy video! I have got the spring fever. It has been so nice here. Everyone says snow on Monday. 😢 We are supposed to have a big emergence of cicada this summer. Thanks Weedy!

  2. I would love to see a contour map of your beautiful garden. You’re awesome dude I can’t ever wait for the next video.

  3. A big hug from the forests of Brazil. Here we have a master who works the soil just like you. His name is Ernest Goetsch. Swiss by birth and Brazilian at heart. I suggest you research your work with syntropic agriculture. Health and peace to all.

  4. I love your videos so much! Have you tried planting vetiver grass on the edges of your swales? Very deep roots, great for stabilizing sloped land, wonderful chop and drop plant, and you can even harvest the roots to make an essential oil that's supposed to help with focus. Good for zones 9a through 10b. Looking forward to your next video! Love from Florida ❤️☀️

  5. You’re such a sweetheart Weedy, one of life’s innocents 😊 I love how you look after your patch of the planet & everything living on it 👌

  6. You are so blessed to have some brother in soil that have the same vision of permaculture.Your videos are always a refreshing & full of good knowledge thank you sir! New Zealand seems to be e real paradise in term of bio diversity .Keep weeding our souls! cheers!

  7. I think you would have been better to snake your drainage, so it takes longer for water to get from A to B. Not have areas that can get waterlogged. More soil would need to be moved with what i am saying, and longer recovery time, but long term it would be better.

  8. Beautiful video again mate! I love the tour so far…cant wait for the next episode
Can we make swales to already established trees ( if the contour is correct)?

  9. Do you need to do anything to maintain the swales? I'd imagine after a few years they might fill in and stop doing their job

  10. God bless you my brother 🙏🌍I have learned a lot from your quality videos my dying wish is to visit your garden 🪴 sitting under a shaded tree feeling that energy that would bring tears to my eyes 🌳

  11. Nice little cubensis there friend 😉 Love the gardens and the videos! Love from Canada!

  12. and I'm up here in the "warm subarctic" (more specifically, roughly 54°N, 122°W) with half a mind to plant a hedgerow of seabuckthorn and Osage-orange (Maclura pomifera)..
