Saving our flower beds from grass

After 2 years of trying to stop the grass from growing into our flower beds, decided enough was enough. Initially I dug a very small trench and filled with white rocks with no edging as in the Before picture. That didn't stop the grass from spreading into the mulch. Finally decided to take the plunge and built this retaining semi-wall structure. Took 4 days to finish. What do you think? Do you prefer the Before look or the After? I still haven't planted any flowers, still have some growing back (the red ones).

I love the retaining wall but you don’t have any flowers.

    That looks great!

Is the downspout to the right of the bed burried or does it flow from there? The only thing I would consider is drainage, to prevent your hard work from shifting.

I have a similar retaining wall setup installed by the previous owners, but water pooled to the side of it bc they didn’t have long enough downspout extensions.

Sorry in advance if the grass still gets in.

  4. I’ve found the perfect solution for this issue. We’re just going to remove all the grass not being used to sit on. Fuck the monoculture. Our entire front lawn and side yard will be gone soon, and it makes me so unbelievably happy.

Looks very lovely and adds to the house!!! I would have done it despite reality and its kudos to you.

Now some reality: I have a raised bed just like this. Grass still gets in the bed (grass seed unfortunately floats in on the wind). I just pulled a bunch. Not only that, over time it also tries to grow in between the stones which I also remove year after year.
