How sealed do they have to be? I want to use this jar but don't like the aesthetics of the red seal ring. But if I take it off the jar obviously doesn't seal as good. Does it matter? Can the lid have a lil air coming in and out or should I seal it completely?

If it matters I will be just adding pond water and pond mud.
There’s no laws on how to do it lol. Ecospheres are meant to be permanently sealed tho but not strict
You can do whatever you want lol, it just won’t be a “true” ecosphere because they are fully sealed
It depends if you want to make an aquatic or terrestrial jar. If aquatic, it doesn’t make a difference if you have the seal on or not. With terrestrial it might cause issues by not keeping the humidity level.
Alternatively, you could take a black marker and paint the rubber ring black so it won’t stick out that much.
I found over the years that it doesn’t make a difference to an aquatic jar if you have a lid on or not other than evaporation and maybe a bug falling in. It has no impact on the health of the jar.
