I’m excited to announce that I’ve partnered with @Aphriainc ’s social impact platform, @plantpositivity which is designed to champion plants and their benefits by providing people with better access and education on the role plants can play in improving everyday well-being.

Through the next five weeks I will be sharing a step by step guide on how you and your houseplants can live your best lives.

The first and most important step is LIGHT:

Plants are solar powered sugar factories: photosynthesis is the process of producing sugars by combining carbon dioxide and water using the energy of light. But the concept of light is not simply whether or not the sun is shining directly on the plant. Most houseplants enjoy ‘bright indirect light’ but what exactly does this mean? Where should you put your houseplants?

Think #WhatMyPlantSees – a plant that enjoys ‘bright indirect light’ should be placed where it will have the widest possible view of the sky and if the sun will shine directly for longer than 2-3 hours, then block it with a white sheer curtain. Don’t let your plants starve far away from your windows!

I hope this helps you understand how to provide adequate light for your plants. Stay tuned for more #PlantPositivity posts on the fundamentals of houseplant care! And make sure to check out @plantposivity for more planty goodness. Topics to look out for over the next five weeks: watering, fertilizing, repotting, and mindful plant care.
