Hello and welcome! I’m super excited because gardening season is finally here! this is season 2 of my balcony garden series, and today I’m starting some seeds indoors this year, I want to bring you along every step of this balcony gardening journey and share many more details than I did last season

I think it will be a good way for both of us to learn about what’s working for me and what doesn’t… I had planned to do a medicinal/herbal/tea garden this year but I changed my mind… I just have so many seeds from last year and I want to give them another chance…

I also had an heirloom seeds company reach out and ask if I wanted to try their seeds the name is Sow Right Seeds, in Greenwood Missouri they were so kind to send me all of these seeds! (this is not sponsored, they simply asked me to try their seeds)

And gave me a 10% discount code: SLOWLIFE10 (link in description) all of their seeds are non-GMO, open pollinated heirlooms and they have a ton of unique varieties as you can see, I have too many seeds to limit myself to an herbal garden… maybe next year!

I’m not going to plant them all though… I wish I could, but I have to be realist about my space I’m selecting the ones I want to plant this season based on the space they need to grow Sow Right Seeds have sent me lots of varieties that are suitable for container gardening

This is my selection from Sow Right Seeds to grow this year I’m also growing some that I have stored since last year… these are the ones I’ve chosen next step is to sort out the seeds that need to be sowed indoors now

And put away the ones that will be sowed directly outside after the last frost day you can find this information in the seeds packaging these are the seeds I’ll sow today! let’s label them… one of the things I’m doing differently this year is that I’m not starting seeds in compost

I sowed them in a mix of seed starting soil and compost last year, and my seedlings looked so sad I was doing some reading and came to the conclusion that maybe it’s not a good idea to start them in compost although I’ve seen many gardeners who do, and actually have great success

It’s hard to know what to follow when the recommendations are so contradictory and what works for some doesn’t work for others I’m using two different brands of seed starting soil, and mixing them up they’re both organic… that was Bella.. this year I have to be more careful of the moisture in the soil

I have to find the right balance of keeping it moist and avoid soaking it… that could’ve been one of my mistakes last season if you’re new to my channel, I will link my balcony garden series and of course, I’m planting more than I will need in case some of them don’t germinate

I will thin them out later and keep the strongest seedlings… this year I got a heating mat I know it will help with germination I only got one though, so I will use it for this tray that has tomatoes and peppers

Out of all the seeds I sowed today, chamomile and strawberries are the only ones that need light to germinate last year I gave them all supplemental light after sowing but I learned that most of these seeds don’t need light to germinate in fact, light may hinder the germination process

Once they sprout though, they do need lots of light! let me know what your garden plans for this season are, if any… in the next balcony garden video, I will give you an update on these seedlings I will clean up my balcony and prep it for planting seeds after the last frost day

And I will also plant all of the leafy greens that do better in colder temperatures… thanks so much for watching! I will see you very soon πŸ™‚

  1. Hooray for gardening season!! I enjoyed watching you sort them and figure out your garden. I have always done direct seeds to my garden that I had, rather than starter plants, so I don't know about the compost situation. I used to do soil with some compost in each. :: shrugs ::
You have nice captial handwriting. I struggle to write in all caps!

  2. just finished watching your series from last year, nice to see that you are doing vegetables again after all! i started sowing some seeds already but just found out that i'm moving to a new place in may so i'm trying not to go overboard :') i will have a slightly bigger balcony but i have no idea about the sun hours and microclimate of that space yet!

  3. It was a pleasure to see your video this morning. You have beautiful seeds; just the packets make us want to start gardening. I will start mine around mid april as it is too early in Quebec. You could still plant some medicinal herbs amongst your other plants: chamomille, lemon balm, mint, oregano and thyme to name a few.
    I'm looking forward to part 2, 3, 4 etc…

  4. Thanks for a very interesting and relaxing video. I'm not into gardening, but I love to eat salads and vegetables. I'm hoping your garden grows well this year.πŸ₯¬

  5. Yeaaay a balcony video! Now our dear Claudia is in her element πŸ™‚ Cannot wait how it evolves. I have already planted violets, forget-me-not and Soleirolia on my balcony – those are ment just for spring and will be replaced. Although here, in middle Europe we have a warm spring (22 Celsius) I still have to wait to plant my tomatoes and potatoes, I want to plant the tomatoes with something climbing, that has nice blooms, as my tomatoes are typically around 2 meters high πŸ™‚ Oh! I see, that you have the seeds that Kevin and Jacques are using on their channel Epic Gardening (I recommend it to you) and those are excellent! AND: BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO 5K SUBSCRIBERS! Yeaaaah! Love your channel! Daniela XX

  6. Claudia hace rato no conectamos.
