What’s going on guys back to the channel welcome this your first time here if you like videos about prepping survival selfi other related topics then be sure to subscribe turn notifications I’ll be notified time that I upload a new video it’s getting very close to planting time

Just a few more weeks and everyone would be planting their Gardens I’ve already seen a lot of people have their Garden spots teed so people’s definitely getting into the spirit of gardening and in the near future it’s going to be essential I think to survival such extremely

Important to have you know a garden at least a small backyard garden to supply some of your fresh produce I’ve had a lot of people ask me about these raised beds and how to fill these cheaply so I decided to make a video you know to talk about that hopefully you

Find it interesting and learn something from it it’s not really complicated and there’s other videos here on YouTube about this very topic but I get a lot of questions so here am making this video I like raised beds because they are of course higher off the ground these are

20 in High by 8T long by 4T wide but having these beds up higher than ground level is easier on my back because as you get older gardening becomes more difficult because you have to bend down a lot and have to weed and plant and harvest and everything is bent over when

You’re on that ground level and this you’re still bent over however you’re not nearly as bent over as you would be if this plant it traditionally into the ground so I like razor beds for that reason but it’s also easier for me to work and you know I can plant more

Plants in this area this size of space than I could if it was a ground level because I can walk all the way around this bed and weed this and plant this and harvest very easily when I filled these raised beds I actually I built the

Uh I built the raised bed out of wood you can see I put it together and I gathered up old logs sticks and things like that and filled the bottom half with that so I use logs sticks and things like that twigs and everything different sizes and through in the

Bottom of these raised beds all Le through here about halfway and then I took and I got some good Rich top soil and filled it up the rest of the way and I’ve been adding compost of this every year as you can see started a video I

Put straw on top of these beds during the winter and then that will rot also in during the winter time and make into you know really good dirt to grow in but as you can also see it settles down over time so you’ll have you know the wood

That I put in here will rot and self compost and as that rots and self compost is then you’ll see this dirt level here the soil level fall so you have to keep adding to that so this year I will add some more compost mixed with

Topo in this raised bed to bring this on up to pretty much level and that’s the way it is all through all these raised beds here is I filled it about halfway up with sticks some were like this some were smaller many were about like this and just thre those in there stacked

Those in there and then put that top soil over top of that it went down you know and all the cracks and things but like I said as it rots then you’ll see your soil levels dropping the race beds you can see here I’m about 6 in now in

These raised beds so I will add more top soil and compost to this before you know before I plant and I have six raised beds through here and over there I have uh three other raised beds so I have a pretty good little gardening area here you come this

Raised base I have another Garden area down the hill beside the chicken coat that’s actually in the ground but I reserved that for things like planting corn and things because I can plant that corn and don’t have to be in down you know to harvest that because the corn is

Right up here up chest High usually when you’re getting those ears of corn off but anyway this has worked pretty good I’ve used these rais beds now for about 3 years and you can see they have it roted or anything still in good condition probably have about another five or six

Years out of these before I to replace this wood so overall you know it’s been a pretty good investment and taada here it is my Hoops magically appeared anyway these are made out of 1/2 inch PVC pipe and the uh clamps over there they’re U brackets

With screws put in each side so I can put these in to take these out as needed and I’ll put these in you know in the spring and I will use these to be able to put a tar a tarpoon or plastic over top of these plants when I have these

Planted to keep you know from frostbiting things killing my my plants sometimes you will plant and it has a cold snap and frost comes if you don’t cover your plants up then they will definitely die depending on you know the plant and things the metal plants and

Stuff like that they go really easily when it frosties so these hoops have these set up I’m put them in each each one of these you can cover your plants up easily and protect those from from F in those cold snaps you can put plastic

Over this and make it into you know many Greenhouse right here you have a 4T by 8ft Greenhouse that didn’t really cost anything just the price of this PBC tubing and these clamps so $30 Al together for a 4×8 ft greenhouse and it works great and I think they should be

Part of every raised bed in my opinion because it definitely gives some versatility when it comes to protecting your crops and you can actually start your growing season a little bit earlier if you want if you live in a Northern climate you have short or shorter

Growing season it’s a good idea to do that and start them early you can also leave them out a little bit longer usually and get a little longer growing season by having these hoops and having a mini Greenhouse over top of your raised bed you can make these taller if

You want I’ve had these several years I can’t remember how long these are actually they might be 6 foot 6 or 8 foot anyway these are I will measure one and leave it down in the description below let you know how big these are but you can make them any size

You want within reason of course to have you know taller hopes for a taller Greenhouse I like this size here because it keeps it done low and I think it offers more protection for your garden but anyway hopefully this helps you plan your race beds and to fill your race

Beds cheaply and to grow you know some of your own produce if you like the video give it a big thumbs up thanks for watching and the C more M and I’ll see you all in the next video hopefully

  2. I quit gardening even in raised beds because for the last three or four years my plants burn up or donโ€™t really produce anything worth picking. Even shade cloth doesnโ€™t help. The sun feels different like radiation. It just cooks the plants. Iโ€™ve never seen anything like this weather weโ€™ve had. I think my area is turning into desert.

  3. Excellent video.
When at my raised beds or just at ground level, I kneel at my garden bedsโ€ฆbecause they are the altars of my church where I feel closer to God, and where I pry out weeds.

  4. Exactly what i needed, i live in the city unfortunately ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคฆ i HATE it but ๐Ÿคท the back of my yard now has chickens & coops so need raised beds for the front part of backyard so this is perfect.. thank you. โ™ฅ๏ธ

  5. Have to be careful with manure. If the grass making the hay was sprayed with herbicides, Graze On especially, it will stay in the hay after it goes thru the animal. It is death on certain vegetables like tomatoes but wont hurt corn because it is in the grass family.

  6. I`ve already planted a lot in Louisiana. I have carrots that are almost ready and just planted more, more onions, early Scarlett Runner pole beans to maybe get a head start, Strike Bush beans, peppers & tomatoes to transplant later, Daikon Radish, collards, Stinging Nettle, Mammoth sunflowers, Black Oil sunflowers for the birds, watercress by my outdoor faucet for seed production/cooking etc and I have 14 fruit trees ready to go in the yard and I ordered a lot of my summer seeds yesterday. I can`t remember it all. I like to risk an early planting with older seeds that need to be used up and often I get lucky and get a big boost from it and save seeds from a few plants. I`m gonna grow a mix of Crowder, Cream, Zipper, and Purple Hull peas, plus the Asparagus Yard Long pole beans which are a type of Cowpea like the others. And I`m trying Peruvian Yellow Berry or Gooseberry plants. Looks highly productive and delicious. This year I started strawberries too and I`m planting asparagus and artichokes after I figure out where to put the bed.

  7. If you drink boiled coffee save the coffee grounds then add them in with your raised mixture.Just purchase a 5 gallon bucket at Loweโ€™s or Home Depot to save coffee grounds in.Add coffee grounds to top then work them into the mixture.

  8. I read โ€œCheap and Easyโ€ and thought this video was going to be about Kamala Harris.

  9. Thank you , love the video . I bought some hoops last year will definitely use them again this year . I put screen over my strawberries to keep out the chipmunks worked great . ๐Ÿ˜Š

  10. I do the same thing here in central florida. That way i can start growing in February. My tomatoes love it with the plastic on. Thank you.

  11. This is a real prepper video. People need to realize what MD is actually showing you. He is showing how to efficiently grow food. I hope the best for all of you.

  12. I bought my first aero garden. Wish me luck. I donโ€™t have a green thumb. ๐Ÿ˜‚ But Iโ€™m trying. Great video as always! ๐Ÿ’•

  13. I built raised beds in my garden because the gophers were so bad. I used stainless steel mesh on the bottom of each bed before I filled them i with soil. The mesh I used was 1/2" x 1/2". I nailed it all around the edge to the wood sides with stainless steel roofing nails. It was expensive but the stainless steel does not deteriorate and it is permanent. 8 yrs now and lots of food grown. no gophers

  14. Man this is why I love perennialsโ€ฆ Asparagus for example is very nutritious , grows quickly and only needs to be planted ONE time. It takes a couple of years to begin producing but if you think ahead itโ€™s amazing

  15. Thanks for the great video. I hope everyone makes a sincere effort to grow more food this year. I feel like we are really gonna need it.

  16. I've always had trouble with moths laying their eggs on my cabbage, broccoli, and other crucifurous vegetables and when they hatch the catapillers destroy my plants!
These hoops and some flexable garden screen should keep them away, thanks for the idea!

  17. Thank you MD. Would never have thought you put sticks and such on the bottom. That is an excellent idea for a mini green house. Plus the getting older is really going to matter when its time to plant and harvest.

  18. Preparing your own soil over time is the best (composting). I've bought the garden centre soils you buy by the trailer load and it is not to good.

  19. The electric company cut two large trees on my property last year. I had them cut the trees into smaller sections and just leave them there. I turned them into raise beds. I filled them with rabbit manure, fallen limbs, cardboard, and other things that can compost. Then I bought some bags of garden soil to help fill them to the top. I'm recycling my old tires into "raised beds" for my squash and pumpkins to grow from. I'm already eyeballing up the washing machine tub from my old, broke washer. My livestock mineral tubs are currently filled with strawberry plants. NOTHING is wasted here.

  20. This is the best practical version of hugelkultur. Its amazing to see fields plowed bare then sprayed with herbicides just to plant corn. Nature is the best teacher look at a forest floor and you see the best technique to cultivate crops. Thanks for the videos.

  21. Thanks for the video M.D. Nice garden set up too! Makes me remember way back when, when I used to really enjoy having my own garden.

  22. Thank you for this video. I have to share this with my husband . This is what I need . It's not easy to bend over in a garden at my age.

  23. Love the raised garden beds great job. This year I'm adding two more to the backyard! I take care of a vinyl for my mother so my hands are full but my down time I spend outside in the backyard. I don't care where the front yard really looks like has definitely expanded. Got some boysenberries, goose and berries, Texas grapes, fig tree, strawberry plants, and this coming week blueberry plants will be hopefully God willing purchased plus I plant a ton of herbs of all kinds for cooking as well as for tea making and medicinal purposes, and planting my veggies wherever I can find room LOL And as far as color and pollination I got my flowers which are either useful for making teas or edible and salads or eating just off of the plant got to do what you can specially nowadays. We don't have a very big yard but I tell you what the only space that's going to be available eventually is going to be just the walkway to all the gardens planted LOL keep gardening y'all

  24. Those beds beg for the square foot garden method. Check it out. MD build a bench that spans each bed so you have something bigger to sit on.
