Seems likely that it would be compostable. Does it seem laminated or like it has a plastic surface on the inside? If it only seems waxy I’d guess the label is true. But there are people who don’t want to compost any commercial paper products at all due to possible chemicals in them. I’m guessing since you were willing to drink from that cup you don’t think it’s toxic, in which case yeah, try it in the compost.
