Hi everyone Lisa here from down to earth gardening thank you for joining me today and welcome to today’s video today I have a video for you on how a little garden solved a drainage problem so really the video is also about how when you’re doing a garden project it’s great

To have a plan and to do it in phases so I always talk about that with my clients to do things in phases because you always want to see how it changes the environment how much you like it and if you do like it you can do more of what

You like and less of what you don’t so this little garden here we actually planted last year and I think I have some clips for you on the planting itself so it is one year old and it is in a full sun location in a um right on

The outside of a inground pool here so a lot of sun and there’s no irrigation here and we had an issue with there used to be some planter boxes here with some major runoff a drainage problem over in this corner so you can see the slope it’s a pretty steep slope

Here and we really thought originally that we were going to have to put in a grate and some drainage which meant you know a lot of work a lot of expense um but what we decided to do first is to remove the plant our boxes and do the

Planting and see if that helped the situation um and changed it any so it was really phase one of this project so I also just want to tell you that design wise the other beautiful shrub or I guess it’s a tree at this point that we love in this area is this

Old PG hydrangea standard gorgeous and so the client loves that so much and um it just really stands out and it’s so beautiful and so easy so low maintenance that we decided to do something similar but we don’t have a lot of space here so we planted a little

Row or a hedge of some little lime hydrangeas which is a panicle hydrangea which I do think I featured in my panicle hydrangea video because I love them so much so the flowers do start off as white and then they turn this Rosy pink and because this is full

Sun here and there’s no irrigation we also went with another drought tolerant little easy perennial which is some Sedum and we just alternated some different varieties here gave it some good soil some Mulch and one year later no drainage problems and we’ve gotten a ton of rain this year so I really just

Wanted to show you our little project and talk about how a garden can be a problem solver pretty great right um and how it really does pay to just do your projects one stage at a time so thank you so much for joining me I hope this video helped
