Day 2 of @the_rhs National Gardening Week. Go on… grow something from seed! The excitement & enjoyment growing from seed generates (the š & ā¹ļø) never leave you, no matter how old you are. Now weāre coming to a point in the year where you donāt have to germinate some seeds in a pot, you can sow directly into the ground. Papaver rhoeas & Nigella āAfrican Brideā are easy & give back a lot more than you give to them. Orlaya grandiflora (much loved by designers at Chelsea) can be tricker requiring germination in a pot first & you can even start off perennials too – Eryngium of all varieties are easy & once established will self seed happily in your garden if you have dry soil. This combination will be a delight from early to mid summer if you have a relatively dry sunny spot in a border or you can try it in a large pot on a balcony or terrace too. .
