Hello, I’m looking to help to seal the roof. I’ve been working on this greenhouse for about nine months. My current challenges how to seal poly acrylic panels within the rafters. I was really hoping to avoid placing the poly acrylic on top of the rafters, preferring a recessed approach. However I’m getting the strong impression that it will be nearly impossible to make this entirely waterproof. Also, while it is understood that it is a damp area, I was hoping to prefer a tight sealed approach to prevent heat loss and avoid any dripping.

My current plan was to use 3/4 inch trim wood glued/nailed within the rafter frame, followed by window sealant, followed by panel and then another 3/4 inch trim. Then caulk interior and exterior seams. However this leaves me with a dilemma at the apex and where the rafters meet the walls. I’m also quite concerned with wood contraction with the seasons.

Any help is appreciated!

Maybe try and get it all on the outer plane of the roof if it’s a good fit you probably don’t need to caulk either as your primary heat loss will be radiative

  2. I would finish framing the roof first. It’s hard to tell what the plan is from this video. Looks like you have a complicated roof with a cross hip. Do you have plans or are you designing and building in your head?
