Experiment: I took a cutting from my big Monstera and, due to the weird shape of this vine, I wanted to see if I could plant it into soil with ONLY the aerial roots going into the soil 2️⃣.

3️⃣ After a week, it was clear that the aerial roots weren’t taking in moisture from the soil as the leaves exhibited signs of severe water loss. I expected this because stem cuttings usually work better with fewer leaves: seems like the plant is telling me which leaves to get rid of!

4️⃣ The newest leaf is still fine. I’ll see what happens in another week: I may do a moss wrap near a node (similar to air layering but without cutting into the vine) to encourage new root formation.

Experimentation and documentation makes plant ownership more fun than just aesthetics and perfectionism.
