Good morning everybody welcome back to our garden so uh today I am here uh by I was going to say by myself but with the guys behind me um we are going to work on the pathway today uh Janie’s not here because she is in Seattle she’s at the

Northwest flower show for the weekend and I’m sure she’s having a great time she called and checked in last night sounds like everything’s going well she’s meeting some fun people uh meeting some of you guys I believe as well which is cool so um yeah sounds

Like she’s having a good time and uh we are going to be here trying to work on this pathway get as much done as we can um you might notice a third person uh kind of moving around back here as well Milo and Isaac recruited a friend Braden

To help us out today which is awesome because we need all the help we can get on this project so uh we’re trying to kind of beat the rain we’ve got rain coming tomorrow for sure so trying to see how much of this if we can get it

Finished or not we’ll see but we’re going to work hard on it I am going to be in a little bit more of a supervisory role today um Shay is not feeling well she stayed home from school today so I’m home with her um I don’t know if you

Could tell in my voice but I’m feeling a little bit under the weather myself so I’m going to be taking it easy helping out here and there but uh I got a couple little things that I’m going to help with it’s not too manual not too hard

And uh and we’re going to see how much we can get done so just to do a quick kind of overview of where we’re at you’ll notice uh this area is a little bit different uh than last time I think you saw it uh we just decided to

Continue this uh this border um on this side here um all the way to the driveway here um we will eventually be putting a pathway going somewhere over here um and continuing on over by the willow tree uh but that’s for another time another phase of the project so we did uh kind

Of continue that out to the edge here and then um the guys are already all walk over here and see Isaac’s working hard um they’ve already got a good portion of this pathway uh covered with the uh aggregate base layer and then I am going to go over here we had this

One piece here sticking up that we need to cut uh cut off and uh seal um so that uh we can make this nice uh pathway be smooth over that um so we’re going to do that and then we can finish off this Pathway All right you guys so I had to run to the store to get that pressure treated 2×4 that we’re going to put on the edge there and while I did that I came back and this is almost done or it is done the base layer um these guys work incredibly fast

Sometimes uh so yeah if you can see all the way down there uh they’ve got the whole path laid out with the base layer next step is to wet it and compact it and wet it and compact it so that we can have it all ready to go for the uh DG

That will go over the top also I had intended to get some footage of them working hard on all of this and so you guys could kind of see the process but unfortunately where I set up the camera it fell over almost immediately after I

Left so we don’t have any of that nice footage so my apologies for that so since I didn’t get a recording of it uh the process um to explain it a little bit was pretty simple um not to say that was easy but it wasn’t complicated uh

They just had to get from over here that big pile of rock put it in a wheelbarrow super heavy bring it on throughout the pathway put some uh piles out rake it out and then use this piece of wood there just to uh level things off that

Screeing process that you would uh know if you had watched Jan’s video about uh laying the foundation for the greenhouse and um and then that kind of helps make it nice and level and then the next step that we will do is uh to start wetting

It down and then using the uh compactor that we rented right there to uh start to really pack it down and make it nice and smooth and level and then the base layer will be done we’re hoping to at least get that far today I don’t know if

We’ll get to the DG today good morning everybody welcome back uh so we are out here between the rain we have uh a few hours of nice weather before the rain starts up again and stting for the noise we have this uh compactor running that Isaac’s pushing there in the background

And uh you can see Milo back there he’s actually shoveling out the uh first wheelbarrow load of the decomposed Granite so as soon as Isaac is done with uh with that last pass with this compactor then we can actually get going on that DG and start to make this look

Pretty so uh this has to be layered down in uh several layers about an inch thick but then once you compact it it’s less than that and we need a good I think 2 or 3 in uh or more of uh of DG nice and solid so it uh it holds together really

Well uh so it’s going to take some time but I’m going to kind of set the camera up and you can kind of watch the process but yeah here we Go Oh All right so we were doing great and we have officially hit a snag we’re going to have to call it a day I will show you guys what’s going on I’ll turn the camera around and I’ll kind of explain but we did good we got pretty

Far and uh things look really good um and uh I’m I’m happy I’m happy with the progress uh can’t wait for Jamie to come home and see this actually uh she’s going to be pretty excited I think when she sees it so I think we did good um

And uh yeah let me show you uh kind of where we got what we did and and kind of the issue that we ran into all right so what do you think I think it looks pretty awesome this is of course not compacted down yet but I think that

Looks great uh we got the entire path covered with the with the DG um if you look over that way you can see we got all the way to the other end as well um the issue if you probably may not be able to tell from this view but it’s

Been raining and this DG is actually pretty wet so as you you can see here it’s kind of Muddy hi Monty uh kind of Muddy we weren’t sure I was trying to look up on the internet and see is that going to be a problem for laying it down

And compacting it or how’s it going to act um Monty really lik digging in it but uh yeah so we found out it is a little bit too wet uh it’s fine to have the layer down but we’re going to have to wait to compact it um I’ll kind of

Show you what we ran into so this is where we realized that we were done for the day um I’m going to put a couple of pictures or Janie’s going to put a couple of pictures I guess I should say uh in the video of the compactor sitting

In this spot um but it essentially just sunk right down because it’s just too wet it wouldn’t Glide over the top and actually compact so as we pushed it along it just kind of basically sunk down uh into the mud essentially uh to the point where it was starting to even

Tear into the underneath layer which of course is no good at all it just just not going to work so um just too wet and we just need to do this when things are drier so if this is a thin layer I think it’s going to dry out um actually pretty

Quickly if we ever get some consecutive days without rain uh but that’s not going to happen anytime soon so we have to return that compactor tomorrow morning anyway and that’s fine because we have more raining rain coming the next two or 3 days including this afternoon so uh it’s okay we did good

We’re just going to kind of uh learn that lesson f away and then next time uh that we go to add the next layer of uh DG we just have to make sure that we’ve had a couple of days at least of dry weather but um it was a fun process so

I’m kind of looking forward to when we’re able to actually finish it all right so look at that behind me I think that’s so good it looks great Janie’s gonna be psyched when she gets home uh her plane lands I think I’m picking her up somewhere around midnight tonight um

She’s going to be exhausted but I’ve talked to her and she had a great time and see Seattle at the the flower show so that’s cool um yeah I don’t even want to send her a video of this cuz I wanted her to see it in person for the first

Time even though it’s not totally finished I know she’s going to be excited about it um and this is a perfect day to get out and get some work done it was we’ve got a nice breeze going it’s not too hot it’s not too cold

There’s a great day to work so I wish we could have got some more done but that’s okay we did good we had a fun time uh if you can call it that fun trying to keep up with uh Milo and Isaac um that is not

Easy easy they are hard workers but uh we did great so um yeah day uh day well spent um I am going to wrap up I’m going to grab some of those oranges off the ground and throw them away maybe Salvage a few that are still good and then

Harvest a bunch more and me and the kids can make some orange juice later today that’ll be fun but um that’s all for now so uh I hope you guys enjoyed this and I hope you all have a chance to get in your garden today
