Roots and Refuge Farm: An animal-filled day (update on goats) | VLOG

Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. I feel the same way, I love to grow, I love to raise and knowing it's not just for us but our family members and customers. We do all our own meat, milk, veggies and fruit. I love watching how excited you get. I just ordered my two different mushrooms to grow on our farm. Thank you for sharing. Till next time God Bless

  2. I have always been afraid to eat mushrooms i. n wild except morells. I know them well. And I love little 2 year old babies. They talk so sweet. When can we get coffee

  3. Oh man, I miss Riverbanks zoo. We had passes there every single year and my kids love the meerkats, too.
Our zoo here in Texas doesn’t compare and is double the cost. 😞
    Anyway… missing home a little. ❤️‍🩹

  4. I discovered your channel because of your previous goats. So to quote Meg Hollar, "I'm stupid excited" that you're getting goats again!!! 😊

  5. Enjoyed the lil trip around Jess glad to see you are working on your emotional health and doing what makes you happy. Lovely spot for the goats 🐐

  6. Riverbanks is amazing! We have lived here since our boys were born, and have that place memorized, such a fun time. Have fun with your family!

  7. I absolutely love that you talk about not having that animal for a season, or having to take a step back for a time, even though you feel it's the right thing to do. A lot of people struggle with that, in my opinion. For me, we've raised our own poultry for meat, but this year, we have to take a step back from meat. It sucks, but it's the right thing to do. It feels right. I feel peace with this decision, no matter how hard

  8. I am so excited for Spring and i think i may have started my seeds way too early but my heart so wants to plant..!!!

  9. My now 11yr old(just this week), has helped me in the garden for years. I can't say he loves it tho. He always is excited to see the seedlings sprout, but it doesn't last long. This week he has been making sure to run his hand lightly over the seedlings(onions & herbs) and he says "Aww happy birthday little guys!" I'm pretty sure you won him over!! 😂😂

  10. Enjoying your video, as I always do…but when you walked over to the fence to talk to your brother in law, I heard my absolute favorite spring sound in the background…PEEPERS!!! I love listening to peepers when the plants and trees and animals all wake up from a long winter. I live in farm country in Western NY (zone 5b) and at the moment we still have snow on the ground, and I have spring fever really bad, so hearing the peepers in your video warms my heart! 🐸🥰 I can't wait for spring!

  11. From sheep experience
If you put the buck in with your ewes at this point they will pregnant through the summer and birth in August/September time frame

  12. Our son didn’t say anything but sounds at 18 months. We had his hearing checked and within a month he was saying proper short sentences. It was ok though. He ended up going to Yale.

  13. We are having our first real taste of spring weather and it has me so excited for the growing season! Love seeing all the animals and hearing the plans. Have a great visit with your family!

  14. We have a cat named Knox. Knox Knoxes things off – especially seed packets. They make great noises. Also. Fun fact, my younger son’s first word other than mommommom (which had more to do with nursing than me) was kitty. Grandma and Grandpa went on a long vacation right at his first birthday. He was so excited to see them that he shouted “Kitty!” when they came back. Fast forward many years, he’s still a cat guy.

  15. haha oh my gosh! "Milkshake brought boyz in the yard!!" haha i laughed so hard… i always find myself just smiling & laughing through ur videos lol thx😁

  16. Oh I remember my twin grandsons learning to say cat. One of the boys would say kitty cat and laugh so hard. I videos it and still show him 5 years later one of his first words ! Such complete joy !!!❤

  17. It's great that you're getting goats again. I just watched an older one of your videos, and you were making mozzarella cheese with goats milk. Can you make any other cheese with goats milk? Thank you for all the information you give. Bless you!!!

  18. I bought a 20×16 "barn" from Amish for 5k for my goats and had my son make a pony wall from wood frame and cattle panels to separate milking stantion and feed from main area with good results. You might consider something similar.

  19. It's going to be exciting to see you with goats again 🙂 Since you'rethinking of not running power to the goat yard, how about some solar application for lights? Solar LED motion detector lights have proved useful for my yard to keep track of my dog, and could supplement interior lighting when you need it. (Maybe Will could collect some of that sheep hair for mulch – supposed to be good in the garden)

  20. Jess the place you have picked for your new goats is great. However that far away and not near your guardian dog, aren't you afraid of Coyotes?

  21. Hey Jess, that's cool that it's time for you to rehave Goats ❤.
I remember the young boys enjoying the Kidds 😊!
    I 🙏that it works out💘.
    JO JO IN VT 💞
