Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. I remember exactly what I was doing the day you aired the podcast with Chrissy. So glad to finally put a face to the ❤. Will definitely subscribe to Nine Little Aussies.

  2. Sweet Jess, I've pinged on to Chrissy's vlog, and look forward to watching her videos. How cools, having Chrissy's husband plot your house for you, and stake it out. With your new house food storage/processing area, will you be adding a large garage door to haul garden, and meat processed food inside.

  3. So excited for y'all too, it's really real! Will be awesome to come along on the journey and see how it all turns out. Lots of hugs and prayers for the upcoming year. 💚

  4. Great idea for a separate processing room. I don't understand though, why a wood burning cook stove? Did i hear that right? In July and August you're going to burn a wood stove in the house? Hmm

    Everything else sounds wonderful!

  5. I thank you for letting me live vicariously through you and your journey. You and your hubby are so kind and positive thinking. I look forward to all your next videos.❤❤❤

  6. Is there a way you announce where you're going to speak besides this channel? Sometimes it's a few days before I can watch so i miss what's going on!

  7. Years ago, they had Summer kitchens, which served its purpose for prep.
Having a totally separate space is wonderful.
Lg. Table, wall shelves and cabinets.. galore!
I am sure it will be so beautiful . Cant wait for the tour!

  8. The new house sounds like it’s going to be so nice, and functional! 🙂 I’m so excited for you all! 🎉 As a long time gardener, I can totally relate to not having the room to put all of the harvest! I have a separate dining room that I turn into my tomato and etc harvest catcher room. And then all throughout Fall I have seeds drying everywhere throughout that room too, and my kitchen holds what it can, as well, and I like to make sure my seeds get extra drying time, so it gets pretty hairy around Thanksgiving, trying to wrap all of that up, and transition into the holidays. Plus, it basically makes my kitchen and dining rooms unusable for anything else throughout almost half the year, which is a huge deal. So I think this is just a genius idea for your new homestead!! God Bless, Jess & Fam!!🙏🏼🍅🥬🌽🌶️🫑🍉🥒🧄🫛🍑🫐🌻

  9. Jess and Miah, you guys are so enjoyable, I want to adopt Miah so I get to have Jess as my daughter-in-law. I love you Jess but I have a soft spot for "sweet Jeremiah".

  10. I am so excited for you and your family. I’m also so grateful for everything you share here and on your other channel The Farmers Table. We downsized from our large home with almost three acres a few years ago and moved into a townhome. I want to create a small garden but living in a townhome there is no land for that. We have a deck but they spray the grass and trees in the development during the warm weather (I did not realize this when we bought our home) and the wind blows the chemicals everywhere. We have to close the windows for at least a day. I don’t know how to make the deck useable to have raised beds because of this. I’ve been thinking maybe an enclosed portable zip up greenhouse, but would that keep the chemicals out? It makes me want to go back to a single family home to have some land so I can plant. We are older, and doing our best to save money and food just keeps going up. Thank you for sharing all your ideas for cost savings and for your prayers and concerns as so many experience the higher costs of things and look for ways to live well, healthfully, and joyfully. Bless you and your family. Excited to learn more about your friend and her channel🥰

  11. Welcome to the virtual R&R family Chrissy, it's good to meet you! Jess, the house is going to be awesome! I've always loved the old traditional farm houses, especially ones with two stories and a wrap around porch. That was always my dream but it never happened. I can still enjoy others dreams come true and I am so happy to see you getting your dream fulfilled! The Lord is good!

  12. The back to basics book also brings up making sure you know where the sun will hit in the mornings and where it will set. I love the morning sun shining in the kitchen where I can see. I don’t want it shining in my bedroom as much early in the am. 😂

  13. Oh I remember this family! That conversation was SO INTERESTING! A new, interesting point of view of USA, and other countries! Oh yes please make more content..I find your style and story so fascinating!

  14. You said you are going to get a wood burning cook stove. Could you let us know where to find them, please? I haven't been able to find one.

  15. Love Love the work room idea 💡 planting the house around what you need it to be. Your new Chanel will really grow in the new kitchen 😊
