  1. Well id be mixing them all up with dryed chopped leaves and stick it all in a compost pile to improve for a couple years

  2. I just bought the frog mix and it had quite a bit of bark chips and pretty heavy and black. Didn’t care for it. I started some indoor lettuce and gnats appeared. They ran out of MG and chose this. No go for me.
I have wood chip piles that looked better after breakdown and may just try my own mix. Last year was the first time we had gnats and aphids. I think something in the process is missing in today’s potting soils as I’ve read a lot of reviews and seem to point in the direction.
Then there is the issue of garbage (plastic and glass) discovered in bagged and delivered soil.
Because of all this and cost I’m doing what my FIL did and recycled potting soil every year. I emptied all pots and add compost materials all winter.

  3. Everyone has been talking about happy frog this year and I’m worried I won’t be able to get enough bags for my garden this year lol but I’ll be adding on it

  4. Loving ❤🐕Tuck and ❤James. Happy 🐸❤. James. Thank you for showing all of what's out there and what's in it as well as their uses. Much appreciated and will be a $$$ saver plus avoiding disappointment. Have a wonderful Sunday and week ahead.

  5. Great video. I buy the sta-green potting mix from Lowes. Sometimes it has big 4×4 clumps of clay. It is always waterlogged because it is outside. I am looking forward to you teaching us how to make our own homemade soil. Thank you for all of the information. ❤❤❤ for Tuck.

  6. Good video, my favorite is a compost mix from a local nursery left in a 1 cubic yard pile for 10 months+. It's all decayed into "your own soil".

  7. All of that stuff is Garbage.. Professionals do not use that garbage.. Professionals use Potting Soil like Pro Mix FPX is 85% Peet Moss with limestone and Perlite. the only thing worth anything in that pile is the peet moss and the mushroom compost. everything else is just trash you are putting into your soil.

  8. You're awesome. I'm 35 mins away in Hamilton, NJ. I've been paying attention to what seeds your growing, and just ordered a bunch from fedco and bakers.

  9. Pete moss is the way to go outdoors, the 'concerns' about pete moss are 15 years old from a same old stupid study. And Canada fix the sustainability issue 10 years ago.

  10. Awesome hard work that went into editing this. Truly appreciate all the hard work. Respect.

  11. A great video as soil is most important to grow superb food. Thank you James and Boss Tuck. I always mix my own soil in a wheelbarrow. I use peat moss, manure compost and usually top soil or organic soil. But like you I didn't like the organic soil as way too much wood in it. I never saw Coco coir before or heard of it. Gald you taught about it. Thanks a lot a great tip.

  12. hey James, interesting video as always. I'm watching you from France and about to go to my mom's to work in the garden with her. Growing time has come 💪cuddles to Tuck, best garden keeper and wish you a good day.

  13. ❤❤❤❤❤❤ for Tuck.
And many thanks for such a detailed explanation. Peat moss is very much frowned upon in gardening in Germany, so the mixes contain less of it and make up for with coconut, which I prefer anyway 🙂. Over the years I have bought a lot of different bags of mixed and most were not satisfactory. It is a gamble that one cannot see what we are buying in those closed bags. Anyway, there is a small scale compost and earth company close by where one can see, feel and smell what you want to buy in your own container, less plastic packaging. There you can chose between different qualities, which I find is a better option than bagged. Learned a lot over the time I followed your channel. Many thanks.

  14. What a Gem!!!, thank you so much for such a wonderfully informative video at just the perfect timing. A Big ❤for Tuck, he works so hard at charming us… he deserve golden garden boots!

  15. Thanks…last year purchased that so called organic soil. Just to bulk up some of my raised beds. Won’t happen again. Save this video.❤❤❤❤❤
