Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. Miah, there's more to do in the greenhouse. Jess needs a small kitchenette and a cabinet to store dishware.

  2. Until this year I also used solo cups because of the larger root system they could hold, but yes, they did tend to tip over. A couple of weeks ago I discovered Bootstrap Farmer's 3.3" cups so I upgraded those and bought inserts for my old Boostrap trays which last forever. Yes, in Jill's wonderful green color because the multi-colored ones were sold out.. I see you were part of that "problem". 🤣

  3. My chickens wish they were there. They love dandelions more than life. They were the first wild greens I ever served them. They are almost a year old now and dandelions are still their favorite. You love to eat but not to cook. These things are not compatible unless you are eating in a restaurant, but then why grow all this food. I bless you all. I am excited about spring too.

  4. Hey Jess, Love your videos! I’ve been thinking about upgrading my trays, and I’m stuck in between Bootstrap trays and a few others, is there one that you would suggest? Thank you 😌

  5. What a great idea for the baskets! I currently have mine hanging from every cross beam in my 12 x 20 greenhouse. last year they got a little mildew spots hoping if I keep them up high the heat will kill the mildew

  6. At a resale shop, I saw the coolest table, it was an old rusted metal that had been cleaned, and a poly or an epoxy had been applied. It was rusty like your chairs but the poly/epoxy protected it from rusting away and made it a smooth clean surface.

  7. I've been struggling with the same. I just want to play with my plants (I have a lot more than years past), but you know a clean house, dinner, and doing the kid things gotta get done. Oh, and I'm so excited for the 5" Bootstrap Farmer pots. I'm using them in hopes of getting a jump start on my tomatoes.❤

  8. We also use that same egg basket for our tomatoes. If they are still green they hang in our shed window in the egg basket for a day or two.

  9. I might be the last person to mention your beautiful table, but it is beautiful and hubby has done a great job putting it together. Your whole greenhouse looks fabulous.

  10. My seedlings in the house want to go into the greenhouse and the trays want to come in the house to hold more seeds, but we’re getting 9” of snow tonight so I’ll get bake to baking, freezing bread for the summer sandwiches and maybe soon I’ll get my hands in the dirt again.

  11. I'm envious of your early spring. Still too much snow here. Last summer I saw some shot glass sized red solo cups at the grocery store. Those would be good for seed starting I think. I might get some if I see them.

  12. OOoooh, I would paint one chair red, one yellow, and one blue. The same shades as your stain glass squares, they would pop with the black background of the greenhouse.

  13. I love my Bootstrap pots and trays! I don't usually use them for the things I am going to sell those I use the solo cups for. I also used to wash out my pots in bleach and soap and over the years I have gotten lazier and sometimes I do you like you are saying fill a big container and sort of slosh them around in. My tomato plants are usually too big for the small bootstrap pots, but the solo cups work well and I sell plants so then I cut my costs on cups and don't have to reorder from Bootstrap every year.

  14. Wow, the greenhouse is fabulous! Great helpers, you have & now you’ve got your prized garden furniture & baskets ready! Thanks for sharing & I bless you all🤗🇨🇦

  15. As you recommended, I starting to buy bootstrap farms products. It is so sturdy. Im going to buy needed items over a 5 year plan because it's expensive but worth the investment.

  16. My baskets hang horizontal on a back porch beam, but I think I may change them to a vertical chain thanks to your inspiration,

  17. I love that Miah said the chairs have some Mater vibes going on! 😂 Your greenhouse is so inviting! I love the stained glass and the table!,
