Hello hello hello there hello hello and welcome to Catherine’s garden and home where we grow grow grow grow together hello and good evening to my gardening friends and family how are you doing I hope all is well with you I hope things are going well for you I hope that you’re doing

Fine you know it is so amazing because I’m adjusting from not having the Christmas tree there instead I decided to keep my Christmas lights up um around my little faux um fireplace just to give light in the in the area because it still gets dark out so quickly and um you know

Light plays such an important part in our well-being and I’ve find that when the days are Sunny then I tend to be up when the days are gloomy and rainy like it is uh today I don’t know about you but I’m here in the Northeast in the

Boston area and last night we got a tons of rain it was just a lot a lot of rain it was wet and damp and so it really pulled on um I think on our emotion I found that you know it’s it was just a lot

Just a lot and so um it’s just really good though to know that um the weather you know even though the weather is a certain way that we can pull ourselves out of that negative feeling and so forth by um thinking about the garden going out and

Even walking and just opening up the door walking around in it in the weather and just breathing in some fresh air but I find that looking at my um cataloges that came in uh have really helped to uplift my spirits and helped me uh to feel really excited

About this new growing season and then I even pulled out my journal um which is something that if you have not gotten a journal um consider mine the in garden journal for 2024 um I’m planning for us to do some uh real thinking through uh the for this new growing

Season and it says my joyfill vision so what is the vision that you have for your garden and so today I want to really talk about our pre-planning pre- beginning gardening planning for 2024 and just start to dream and vision and see where we want to go for this new

Year so um the question I have for you what is what is on your mind and for me it’s growing good food and flowers growing good food and flowers and what helped me to feel and think about that is the fact that my um cataloges I love these two catalogs the

Johnny and the baker Creek cataloges they came in and when I was flipping through you know I love pumpkins um I have them still all scattered around here and I’m just uh looking at my pumpkins and my pumpkin actually looks just like that let me show you you can

Make a comparison see my pumpkin and the picture of the pumpkin mhm so I grew that pumpkin from Johnny it’s a Johnny’s uh seed um that I used to grow my pumpkin and so when I saw that I was just so inspired so I just want to continue to

Inspire us as we um come together and then I was looking through my Costco magazine and it was talking about things that help us to really get through these uh these months uh January February and March how are we going to get through these difficult months uh as

We’re starting here in January uh it says uh what are what’s good for you what are the good things that you can do and it spoke of being with others us coming together and then it spoke of uh eating good food and exercising like let me just

Show you yeah see so when I saw the salad good for you good for you and we last week we talked about um seed starting and different types of growing in the home and that was exciting um so that’s what is on my mind it’s a whole

Smage Board of different ideas so I’m excited to hear what you have to say and I welcome you all in to Catherine’s garden and home where we grow grow grow grow together and I see that some people have already signed in hello hello Miss Captain good to see you today yay good

To see you too Sonia so glad that you uh popped in and you’re are here to moderate we’re not going to be here long today um but it is good for us to continue to meet good afternoon sister Katherine and sister Sonia I love your amarillis plants they are doing great uh

Not really Francesca I mean they are growing but uh because they don’t have a real sunny position uh the leaves are just doing their thing and uh these are from last year these are last year’s bulbs that I had I just put them out

Into the garden I I saved the the um the bulbs and I just put them in the water and it’s a little Greenery um last year I did um flour a lot yeah these are last year’s buls but thank you for commenting um since you think that they look good I agree

Um yes hello warm-hearted blessings on Wednesday to you both yes um happy you are here says Sonia oh very nice okay miss Catherine hey G M girls heart in the garden how are you how are you so good that you can pop in and say hello

To us and be a part of this um good morning morning Deborah oh good morning good Afternoon everyone Deborah good afternoon so good that you are here with us um it’s good to be together and um today um I just started just thinking about our gardening and so the topic is Broad it is what’s on your mind and for me what is on my mind is growing good

Food and flowers growing good food and flowers and so in a sense I want to do some pre- beginning gardening planning for 2024 and and questions you may ask yourself I started um wondering what kind of questions could you be asking yourself um as we’re starting to prep

And get ourselves ready to um start to feel the gardening the spring some of you are continually gardening you’re gardening through the winter and you’re following the trends with with indoor gardening we talked about that the arrow Garden gardening hydropic gardening uh last week so if you missed

It you can um re-watch it um and we talked about that we talked about um growing food throughout the the the year and not just settling to one my Emeral is are dying back oh but at least you enjoyed a beautiful uh Bloom Deborah right your Bloom was beautiful for the

Time yeah so that’s another way well how does one handle this transitioning time and how does one grow in January well of course indoor gardening especially for those of us who are in the colder climates in zones um 65 and four and even Zone 7even um house

Plants a lot of lot of people turn to house plants to help them get through this time and some people are starting seed starting starting you know they have uh their seed starting kits I know Franchesca I believe has already started her seed starting and um in different

Regions different people are able to to get started some people are using the uh grow lights and others are using the um the the I can never remember what it is um you know the green houses and so forth um g m says I had to re I had to revamp

My composting since moving into the apartment I’ve switched to book which can be composted indoors without smelling yeah well see you know it’s amazing G Mama how different challenges teach us and help us to to grow and actually every Garden challenge that we have is really good

For us because it causes us to think deeper to research to stretch our thinking and so it is it’s a good thing you know even though um we get comfortable and familiar with certain habits and things uh really to help us to grow and to think um and to stretch

Our learning and to expand our knowledge um without a problem without a problem without a problem there’ be no reason to research without um a need to to um you know solve something solve an issue then why would you need to research you can just keep on doing the same old thing

Over and over again especially if you’re having success but in those areas that we may be struggling with it is good for us so we can grow and learn and looking at life from that perspective really helps us to overcome the the bad feelings that would come you know people

Become very depressed during these times because they have no hope they feel that they have no hope but we have hope because we are not afraid to learn this lesson has shown me that composting doesn’t have to stink yes yes Sonia what’s on my mind is when to start my

Seeds inside to be ready to plant them outside after my last frost okay that’s a good question that is a good question um and it depends on the seed pack if you go to your seed pack Sonia your seed pack would tell you when to get started

On planting like for example uh if you were going to plant that’s why I really really really really love um this Johnny um the Johnny’s Seed Catalog because it provides a lot of information on the seeds and I was just reading it and it was saying here you

Know it was saying start growing with best resources right inside right inside it gives you all this information so if you don’t have a Johnny Seed Catalog get one because of it gives you information along with the seats uh that they offer you and so they give you a glossery and

Different um different instructions uh here like for example growing pole beans and when to start right there is all this information that they give you it says growing artichokes and Cardon if you wanted to grow that or growing pole beans grow P beans on Trellis poles or

Mesh fences and then they tell you when to grow it and how many yeah it makes it so handy it is such a free resource yeah it’s such a free resource so the seed pack um it on the seed pack it gives you the instructions of when to

Begin so it might tell you uh that this particular plant um or vegetable food that you want to grow uh that you can start um seeding in indoors uh two or three weeks before your last frost and then I was looking up the alack the

USD um you might want to check to see when is your um the first Frost I pulled out my yeah so I did pull out my my journal for 2024 I said okay Katherine it’s time to move on to the next new year and I have to let go I still

Had I still had last year’s journal in my hand look at that I had this one first because I said oh this is for the winter season and January I could still write in this one and wrap up this one with the SE ending Seasons cuz I started

Looking at the micro greens and um some of the things that I wanted to do in this um but then I said no let me start thinking that’s why I thought of pre- beginning gardening planning for 2024 questions you may ask yourself what is it what are some of the questions

That I need to ask and I ended up pulling out yes hello dama I ended up pulling out my journal here and so let’s start uh first things first um and I looked at it I said well the first thing I need to do which I haven’t done yet

But is to put my name in it so if you have your journal or you have a a journal or fresh notebook first things first put your name in it put your name in it and put the year and I have a pen here I’m going to put my name in my journal

Um I’m going to write it in here and this is for 2024 and I just I’ve just done it so you can do do yours too Sonia let’s pull it out and get ourselves thinking about uh this new new season so then I thought about well you

Know how they’ve been talking about the um the dreaming and planning getting started using this journal basic question to consider what is your favorite color in the garden what are your favorite flowers what are your favorite vegetables do you want to have a lawn raised bed or borders and then I

I set here look at gardening resources to generate ideas and when I looked at my own journal my own book I said okay that is what we’re going to do that is what’s going to get us going get us started in thinking about um the garden is that let me pull

Out my cataloges the ideas are right before me and I so I wanted to say the same to you that now is the time to order those cataloges to pull out um and and start thinking about what seeds you want to plant and then knowing that the

Resources are right there before for you that yes it may seem overwhelming but now is the time Sonia to gather together all of the resources that you need so you’re going to need if you’re going to do seed starting you’re going to need to have seed starting

Trays or a pots you’re going to need to have soil a location all of those good stuff to get started with the with the process of of seed starting um and then no knowing when to start that was a really good question really good question um that

You asked Sonia very good very very good yes so pre- beginning gardening planning for 2024 questions you may ask yourself and this year being very intentional is is so exciting hello my battle sister G Mama grows hard in the garden hey th I hope you’re feeling um better hello my

Dear gardening family sister Katherine everyone in the chat yes um I’m feeling better because I see you here I feel good I feel enthusiastic I enjoyed this morning reference from last year yeah so you have your um your journal from last year which can help you and guide you

But we’ve all got to know that um last year’s Journal last year’s Garden was last year’s Garden but this year is the brand new year and that this year the garden um this year the garden uh may require something different now I was looking up in the almanac cuz I I went

To the Farmers Almanac and it said that um January February and March is going to be a very cold months that March um winter is not going to be leaving us early that we’ been fooled by having such a mild December for most of us in

The the Northeast um and in in zone six and Zone 78 that it’s been a mild pretty much mild um beginning of winter from December uh 21st but now we have experienced our first real winter uh snow and if you saw my video I put out a video of it um right now

There’s no snow on the ground because last night it rained and it rained torrential rains thank God it wasn’t cold enough that it could be snow because otherwise we would be under a lot of snow but they say that the weather pattern is going to be like that

That um it’s we’re going to experience snow so I wrote down some notes it says on I 95 Washington to Boston um or should experience lots of rain and sleep and snowstorms to contend with for the second week of January it will be stormy snowy wet for both the Pacific coast and

The eastern states that’s us second week of February East Coast storm snowfall cold rain and frigid temperatures wintry mess to the first week of March that’s what the almanac is predicting now of course they’re just predictions but it seems like that there’s a shift in the climate that when

You know like like it’s it shouldn’t be so cold and then it said talk it’s spoke also about April that the weather is going to be getting cold so with that in mind how do we handle this as gardeners as we start to get ready for the

Gardening season and so Sonia you you’re right you are so right what a good question well one of the things are uh starting early getting things ready yeah the first SN was so pretty yes it was it was good it was good it was good it was Good yes uh reference from that U Francis I’m thinking of starting some pepper plants it might be kind of ear well check your SE packet for sure um Francesca and see what it says uh because I think Peppers do take a little bit of more time in

Getting started they need they have a longer they have they’re growing um you know time to germinate and so forth I took a whole day to rest feeling a little better it’s hard to keep still I know th it’s like December weather in January exactly to be honest I’m cold and my

Body is hurting from the cold that I’m not thinking about my garden no you know Deborah that is exactly um what I was thinking too and feeling especially today I was not motivated I was feeling so cold and chilly I don’t know what it

Was I wrapped up I put on my heater and I’ve been drinking tea all day my mug this is my large mug I’ve been drinking tea and coffee and um just wanting to to just snuggle um and I think it’s because of that storm and the rain and everything so I I

Understand totally how you feel but that’s why it is important to uh pull out your cataloges come together for those of you who came together with me are here with me to talk about it to get ourselves um you know to start stimulating that that that feeling of of

Of the future and gardening and planning to pull up our joy level you know I had to I had to really work on it this this afternoon um so I understand totally I understand totally so I hope by the time you leave here with us that

You’ll go and look at your seed packets and see what you have and get your catalog out and get get uh motivated and um inspired um Yankees sister I’ve started hot peppers yeah you know that’s where that um the arrow Garden or the hydroponic gardening really comes in

Handy because now you can start uh growing your plants that way and then by the time the the temperature shifts by April May um you’ll be ready to put your plants your seedlings out now you know who’s a good person to get to let you know when to get started with your seed

Starting soil and Margarita yes roxan if you have not subscribed to her YouTube channel I advise that you subscribe to her her YouTube channel because she was so good at it hopefully she’s still motivated like she was last year but I watched her start her seedlings and do her seed trays and have

Her colorcoded in the whole works the other person that is really good that can inspire you and help you and let you know uh that you can follow along with seed starting would be um Garden answer Laura of garden answer and she hasn’t really begun much seed starting yet so

It’s still early but now is a good time to get your seeds and uh a lot and she recommend commends the Johnnies she seems to like their seeds the most for her vegetables and I think it’s because it provides so much information so the thing is is that you

Have your catalog and then you get the seeds because they do not you know how Baker Creek’s seed packets are so pretty they they just the their seed packets are just so gorgeous um the the photography the work that they take in in the photography with rare seeds it’s

Just amazing who it just makes you want to buy um seeds from them because it’s look at this isn’t this so pretty it’s just it’s so gorgeous the the photography look at that oh my goodness it’s so enticing it makes you want to try oh I want to try

That look at the colors they’re so rich and bold yeah and and Johnny’s they definitely have picked up on their their um theirs being bold too as well um but I love them their’s their catalog because they give you um descriptions and they give you a variety you know of

Different types of leafy greens um that you can order look at you the different kinds of pumpkins you know I love my pumpkins uh it’s it makes you smile um look at look at the lettuce the different types of lettuce that you can seeds you can

Purchase and then for those of you who are into micro greens look at that the Sprouts the seeds you can order your seeds from them and do the micro greens right there you know the thing is is that what they they um say that when you buy the seeds from them that the

Quality they promise you great quality start growing with the best resources um it says that uh it says your growing success is our priority when you need proven varieties you can count on and detail guidance from seeding to harvest consider Johnny’s your trusted growing partner yeah so you know it is what the

Quality of seeds that you put in the ground will uh determine um the success too I think that you have um the first snow was so pretty seven inches of snow gone I have started hot peppers says um thma I started my Peppers too I didn’t have any last

Season but this season should be better yeah that’s true that’s true I I I also didn’t have great success with peppers this was not a pepper year except my jalapeno peppers were good um the sweet peppers were the peppers that I didn’t have the best success with but

But the um jalapeno peppers that I grew were good they I had a lot of them last year I started peppers in December got a great yield I’m a little late this year Zone 6A yeah I’m Zone 6B I checked it out um Thelma and they said that the USDA uh

USD they said that I’m a um 6B they say I’m 6B I just call myself zone 6 but um they say I’m so Zone 6B yes Deb said Yankee sister it may not be too late with the weather changing yeah that’s my point thank you Deborah yeah

It’s um with the weather changing and the way things are um we it seems like our growing season is extended at the back end you know that you you can you’re actually getting milder temperatures in October and November uh so that you can grow a little bit yes

Johnny says microgreens I yes do check them out your sound 6 a 6B okay yeah the micro greens here you go G Mama and look at the different seeds that they offer yep a fast growing micro green varieties 10 to 15 days spicy micro mix mild micro mix confetti

Mix uh kale fet fet mix rainbow sprinkles mix that that’s what they’re talking about the different mixes that they have there those are the mixes and let me tell you want me to tell you the prices um $8 10 C for one uh of uh 1/4 pound a qu pound 2640 for a

Pound that’s for the spicy yeah so for a pound of seeds it’s like $26 a little over 26 2040 um or 1 oz you can buy them they have different different others that you can buy yeah yes so and they speak so it says they speak so well about growing

Microgreens grow in a greenhouse or protected area follow the germination guidelines for the specific variety being grown um and you know it’s following the process you know the process for the micro greens yep then they have slow growing micro greens great variety and they have the little kit there look at

That look at that hey Bev how are you doing they give you the kit new growing micro greens basic micro greens starter kit that’s good that’s something new and then they have shoots and sprouts if you want to do shoots and Sprouts yeah so yeah the cataloges are a

Good way gardening tips for you you know look at gardening resources to generate ideas where do you want to go with this how are you going to begin um begin researching different types of garden Styles and Trends I use the H hemp mats to grow my micro greens okay good evening let’s see

Yeah I don’t know let let me see if if um Baker Creek has that micro greens um they’re just so beautiful the the the catalog is just gorgeous let me see if it says anything but you know this isn’t the the the big they have the the the real

Catalog the big catalog um and you can buy that I think it’s like $14 for that but to me it’s such a good resource I don’t see it right here in this in this one but anyway so um yes hi Bev how are you so good to have you come and join us

And those that are watching and if you like what we’re do talking about make sure that you hit the like button I see I see people watching and but I only see five likes you don’t like the topic come on hit the like button pre beginning gardening plan for 2024 questions you

May ask yourself um I got my first C catalog last week and that was gy I didn’t see micro greens oh okay Francesca I really want to try them though yeah and you know what I tried them last year and I got mine from the uh Dollar Tree I tried

The Dollar Tree micro greens and I just used the cocoa um cocoa soil that they had that that’s not really soil but the cocoa soil and used that and it produced I was able to to grow some microgreens and it was very simple easy to do and

Fairly clean too uh I liked the process so you might want to start small to experiment with if you don’t want to make a large investment if you have a Dollar Tree nearby or um you know you can you can get it from them or maybe a

Walmart or something that they may may have something like that they kind of remind me the chaa Chia plant yeah yeah it’s like the Chia plant yeah exactly that’s that’s true it reminds me of that as well um it’s the same idea it’s the same idea uh so pre- beginning gardening plans for

2024 questions you may ask yourself so in January gardeners often find themselves preparing for the upcoming growing season and addressing various aspects of their Gardens here are some common questions that gardeners may be asking themselves during this time so I went and I did a little research on

Questions that you as gardeners may be asking your s and if if you if this is for you just um put yes or put put a comment in the comments so I know that that’s the question that you’re concerned about and says I’m going to check and see if the Dollar Tree have

Them well I don’t think they they usually um for me in my area they start to out their gardening things like the last week in Jan January um so you I think you’re a little earlier than us so they may they may already but but definitely

By February and they start to have the seeds and and different gardening things in the Dollar Tree you know and sometimes that’s the best thing start Simple Start easy especially when you’re learning something new um and then later on you can start to expand and um

Continue to you know uh invest that is our word right Alma invest what are you going to invest in but you want to make sure that you’re investing in the things that mean the most to you yes G mama say check the seed package because some microgreens need to

Be inoculated yes um and the southern states have them in the Dollar Tree says Yankee sister Homestead I’ve seen some seeds at at our box stores already I have to be careful and go through my inventory first yes yes Francesca I may purchase a a child Chia plant and plant

Micro Greens on it well I don’t know if that’s that works but you could try it why not um that’s awesome Sister Sister Deborah okay in January so here are some common questions that garders may ask themselves during this time so I’m going to I’m going to to um read off some

Questions and you just tell me if this is something that’s on your mind or not all right so get ready if it’s if it’s on your mind to say yes in the chat if if it’s not say no and I’m going to keep track of how many people think that this

Question is a big question it’s almost like a survey okay it might be a little difficult to do but we’re going to try it anyway so what should I be doing to prepare my garden for spring is that on your mind it would be fun may share with my grandchildren that’s a

Great idea debah yes I think it will be fun to do the micro greens and the with the Chia um so the first question is what should I be doing to prepare my garden for spring is that on anybody’s mind if so uh put in the chat on my mind

Or yes or number one yes says Sonia I got two one two any more come on I’m tallying it up all right so only two people that’s on their mind what should I be doing to prepare my garden for spring three anym four anym anymore that’s it all right four

People I’m looking I’m looking all right question number two when is the best time to start start seeds indoors well we know Sonia asked that question anyone else H has that on their mind when is the best time to start seeds indoors put in uh yes in the chat or number

Two I’m going to do a total reset okay so that you it’s on your mind okay Deborah I’m going to put it down as on your mind one two three okay three people anybody else any body else that’s it okay all right number three no I have a list okay no there’s one

No one no okay thank you now okay so that’s two people who don’t have that question on their mind they already have that answered okay question number three what vegetables or flowers are suitable for early planting in my region to yes okay all right Deborah um number the third question what

Vegetables or flowers are suitable for early planting in my region is that on your mind what vegetables or flowers are suitable for early planting in my region is that on your mind do you have that on your mind yes or no three yes says Okay g mama anybody else yes says Sonia Sonia

You all the questions are on your mind huh anyone else you got that question on your mind what vegetables or flowers are suitable for early planting in my region no I have a list from last year’s calendar all right dma yes number three yes okay all right anybody

Else okay number four fourth question how do I protect my garden from frost and cold temperatures no says um all right we have two noes for three how do I protect my garden from frost and cold temperatures anybody got that on their mind oh oh number three oh um Francesca

Says absolutely what about number four how do I protect my garden from frost and cold temperatures anybody no no nobody cares it is what it is right oh no no I got that handled I had six mil PL plastic all right good at least one one we have no need

For all right number five now I just keep my heat lamp on my babies all right number five number five are there any garden tools or equipment that I need to replace or repair before spring does anyone have that on their mind are there any garden tools or equipment that I

Need to replace or repair before spring no okay no for four all right u v are there any garden tools or equipment that I need to replace or repair for spring number five anybody got that oh yes said said Yankee sister she wants to know uh Francesca yes uh no

Say Sonia she’s don’t care about the tools of the equipment not on her mind all right number six what kind of I don’t I don’t think I want to talk about that wait PESA disease should be on the lookout for all right what about number eight

Number five says oh de says yes for five Garden says no all righty uh number number eight number eight I’m going to skip number six and number seven because I don’t think I really want to talk about that uh number eight should I prune my fruit trees or shrub

Shrubs in January that’s a question do you have fruit trees and are you planning on doing any pruning in January you know but I could also think about the the um Pest and disease spraying actually number seven comes in what Pest of disease should I be on the lookout

For in the upcoming season I’m I’m going to add to that with number eight uh should I prune and spray when should I be spraying my fruit trees or shrubs in January I’m really interested to know about that anybody else any anyone else with their fruit trees

Nope you need to research now okay says Yankee anybody else anyone else I have one aerot te that my daughter started from a seed under heat lamp wow that’s good eight no my trees been covered since November okay all right so we’ll move on how can uh number

Nine how can I plan my garden layout for optimal sun exposure and plant spacing uh no says Deborah unfortunately I don’t have any other fruit trees okay Francesca number nine how can I plan my garden layout for optimal Sonic exposure and plant spacing now um that is something to think about you know

Because now is like for me for example one of our trees we had cut down last year and that gave us a a little more sun in one area but then some of the trees have really grown in and it’s like shading out that particular area that we

Thought we could plant in so now we have to rethink the area and and the spacing so that is that is something that I’m going to have to think about how can I PL my garden layout for optimal sun sun exposure and plant spacing um who else who else is that a

Concern with nine yes says Deborah um nine yes says I just moved into a new apartment yeah yeah so that that whole idea of sun is some point when you look at my look at that they definitely are longing for the sun they’re looking for some kind of light source nope says

Francesca all right number 10 um are there any new gardening techniques or trends that I should consider trying this year you high Sunny area where I can plant very hot vegetables and fruits that’s good um that is good for you um th number 10 are there any new gardening

Techniques or trends that I should consider trying this year um I think some of you are thinking of some new trends or exper nine no for you Gardens Army Bev doesn’t have to worry about the sun she knows her garden number 10 are there any new gardening techniques or trends that I

Should consider trying this year any new gardening techniques yes new composting and plants all right says g m anybody else nope says Deborah you’re G to stick with the tried and true huh no new trends for you but you did mention micro greens so so maybe there is something new for you a

New trend with the micro greens yeah but maybe not out in the May that’s indoors but yeah yes winter gardening in pots instead of bottles with a dome on top wow that’s a different idea that’s different um yeah that’s that’s a different you know people use

The um the totes and they put holes in the totes and then they cover it that way too or creating different um coverings for pots uh thumb um Sonia said nope okay um number 11 what varieties of plants or vegetables are well suited to my Pacific climate so soil or conditions

I think that’s something that’s on our mind all the time the variety of plants or vegetables and when we get our cataloges you grew micro greens last year oh okay but you’re going to try it differently with the Chia dbra no um number 11 what varieties of plants

Or vegetables are well suited to my specific climate sour oil and conditions is that on your on your mind yes okay so number 11 I got two yeses for that any other yeses no yes for 11 okay Deborah anybody else varieties of plants and vegetables that are well suited to my specific climate

And soil conditions yes I like pushing it okay good for you anybody else no says no for 11 nope nope says Francesca all righty number 12 what is the best way to organize and track my garden activities including planting dates and harvest times is that on anybody’s in mind what

Is the best way to organize well if you got my journal it should help you with the process of planning right what is the best way to organize well I will tell you what it is the answer is right before you get a journal and track it

And uh you know keep a record of what you’re doing in your garden um that will keep you organized because you have it written down you’re planning and I was listening to um someone who is a guru in this and he was talking about planning he was talking about the power of pro

Planning he was thinking about the power of planning and he was saying that um when you plan yes always needing that starting writing it in it yes yes he’s he was saying when you plan that you it you are giving yourself a chance to look forward you have my journal y

Deah yes you do yes you do but the power of planning and it it’s amazing he says because you can see and that’s why when I put that intentional gardening when you are intentional when you’re planning you become intentional you’re not just doing things haphazardly but you’ve

You’ve planned it out you’ve mapped it out you’ve thought it through and because of that you have more chances your rate of success is much more higher you have more chances of being successful your rate of success is higher and your satisfaction is too because it’s almost like um applied

Knowledge yeah you can’t garden and not have faith that’s true Yankee sister and so it is is always good to plan and um you know the Bible as you know the Bible says I know the plans I have for you yes to prosper you and give you hope in the

Future and so when we’re planning out it is it it is by faith yeah that’s true I didn’t think about it that way for um Yankee sister but that’s true it takes Faith to to to say I’m going to plant this seed and see it grow wow that’s

Good that’s good that’s good Happy Mac how are you that is so good Yankee sister mhm yes it takes Faith Fate To Be A gardener you got to know that you’re going to plant the seed and expect a good return uh debah says I’m going to reset my garden and many in

My family have offered their help I need to have a written plan so I can tell them what I want yes oh that is so good so see now this pre pre-planning this pre-questioning is going to help to stimulate your mind and get you going and get your your you planning and

Getting your your garden going helping you to figure out what do I need so that’s good I’m excited Yay number 13 how can I make my garden more environmentally friendly and sustainable well I think we’re doing it already number 14 are there any upcoming um so number 14 it would be is this on your mind are there any upcoming G gardening events workshops or classes in my area that I should

Attend um are there any upcoming gardening events workshops or classes in my area that I should attend now now you know like Brooke with vent’s guard gardening um NG she likes to go and visit Gardens she likes to go and um go to gardening um gardening workshops and

Things like that are you thinking about that number 14 yes not yet says Yankees say but yes you are Deborah yeah that might be something to keep on the back of your mind that um how can you uh um well some of you may be a part of a gardening a

Local gardening Community hey vintage you he me talking about you huh Brooke you heard me talking about you yes um you know planning trips and events and all of that sort of thing that is definitely something that might be on your mind and maybe something to

Think about for the coming year to do something different where you can be a part of a local um gardening Community you know some with with others you didn’t hear me well I was saying that we we are looking at what questions you may be asking yourself that’s what we’re we’re talking about

Here and one of the questions number 14 it says are there any upcoming gardening events workshops or classes in my area that I should attend is that something we’re pre- beginning our gardening plan planning for 2024 and the the conversation is around questions you may ask yourself as gardeners um like now in

January Garden gardeners often find themselves preparing for the upcoming growing season and addressing various aspects of their Gardens so here are some common questions that gardeners may be asking themselves during this time and one of the the question number 14 we’re almost finished um 14 says are there any upcoming gardening events

Workshops or classes in my area that I should attend and um so I was asking people well is there something on your mind is the are you interested in doing that and and I thought about you and you said the Phil Philadelphia Flower Show okay that you love to um go to Longwood

Gardens and all those other Gardens and that how you have been taking us on tours of these different Gardens that you visited and how you’re part of the um the different workshops with the pies you know how you did the pey how are your PES doing your peie workshops and

The um crysanthemum workshops and now with your vintage roses you love her tours and all of that and um the fact that you have been um you’re doing meetups with people in the area um and things like that I think that that was definitely one of your highlights for

2023 um and it is inspiring to actually think about well how can we connect with other people other gardeners also there are some local historic Gardens that are asking for volunteers for seed starting oh okay yeah and so things like that and that’s one of the things that um so asks

When is the best time to start seeds indoors and you are also Brooke is really good at that she’s she and um and roxan from um soil and Margarita you both are very much into seed starting indoor seed starting uh at least last year you were so um yeah we want to

Learn more about that I think that that’s something that I um am interested in and I know that there here in the Boston area there are gardening clubs and uh even our city has a garden um club uh they they look at they have the Rose Garden and so forth it’s just that

I’ve never really reached out to them we also have the Nature Center that’s nice I’d like to volunteer to help start seeds yeah um so G Mama maybe in your area I started seed starting on January 1st lith anthis Lupin and Rebeca yeah so that’s with the

Perennials right yeah I think a lot of my other people they were talking about peppers and vegetables but um loopin that’s a good thing I last year I started the loopin and then I with the bottle winter bottle sewing method and it started to grow but then

Um uh there was a hot day and for some reason I left the bottle in the Sun and they to they became toast you know and I lost my Loop and I was so disappointed because I was so excited about getting them out and I was just trying to to

Measure it the right way and then I started looping seeds again and put them in but they were so fragile as seedlings and uh became over over shrouded by um the other plants because the other plants started to grow up and where I put them so I

Love loopin my point is I love loopings um but you’re making me think about it maybe I should I need to think about getting some loopin seeds uh do they all need cole Strat the Vintage Gardener um so yeah she wants she’s curious they’re curious about seed starting did you do

Any videos on seed starting I don’t think I I noticed any but um yeah so that’s something that to consider and even just start researching and finding out what kind of um workshops or events or uh societies like as I said at my in

My area not too far from where I am is the nature garden the Nature Center and there they have plots for people that you can get a plot if you don’t have land that you can garden there with them and um then we have another Farm Urban

Farm uh Institute which give work they give workshops and so forth that was I’m actually friends with the with the manager um of that and um little local farms it in your area there are local farms or Urban farming you could check them out and

Find out how you can um build uh you know and figure them out I love that beautiful flowers encourage Beast to come to my veggie garden can’t hardly wait to start my seeds this year hi happy Mac how are you the Lupin and Rebecca don’t always need it I put both

On a germination mat the Lupin germinate in two days on 75 degrees heat the Rebeca gerate in less than a week wow yeah I found that the Lupin when I did R try to plant the Lupin later on in the year I was around um uh late May early June that they

Germinated they did not have problems germinating but they just grew so slow Hi how are you happy Mac yeah they just grew so slowly I mean I just um I guess because they’re perennial um I didn’t know what I was thinking but anyway uh I tried to put them out in the

Garden they were just little small seedlings so yeah I I’m going to try the loopin again thank you for that um number 15 says uh should I invest in any new garden tools or equipment to make my gardening tasks more efficient are there any new gardening tools or equipment to

Make your garden tasks more efficient that you’re interested in is it on your mind um you know know how some people have those drills um that they’re using or any tools any kind of shovels and stuff yes ma’am okay and uh kneeling pads and all of that stuff let me

See I don’t think they offer do they offer a lot of equipment yeah oh yeah Johnny C’s are for no no says no says Garden me yes indeed can’t have too many gardening tools says G Mama I I live trap a live trap for catching rodents eating my plants yes

Well that I can’t help you with but here in in um Francesca you’re on your own get a cat get some cats some fi cats to help you Johnny’s um here they offer on the back trays and stuff I don’t know how expensive that you know they have also

Gardening supply Garden gardening supply but they offered the seedling Flats here too in the catalog so it might be good to um possibly they have biodegradable pots which we know of too um process of potting up then they have that machine you know they have that machine that you can make

Your like that you see that the potting up you know like that if you want if you don’t want to use okay and then they have a micro green matte and then they have the heat mats soil blockers that’s right G Mama soil blockers and then the heating mats and

Stuff the lighthouse green tent do you know about this G Mama the lighthouse green tent I never that’s something new that I don’t know about you see that the lighthouse green tent a lightweight waterproof fabric for encapsulating a light cart or creating a grafting healing chamber yes

So there are a lot of interesting things to think about and then they have the hand tools like this tool is good look at that hand tool that looks like a good hand tool to have the Cobra head weeder and cultivator yeah yeah so look at that could you imagine having having your

Own your own Greenhouse the B High tunnel do you have room for a high tunnel you my Brooke if you want to grow food or have a high tunnel there you go you got the land for it but anyway yeah so let’s see so that that is um so these

Questions I’ve grown plent plenty of trees inside my green tent my grow tent they’re outside now oh okay um these questions can serve as a starting point for gardeners as they plan and prepare for the gardening season ahead the spe specific questions may be very uh very much vary and ba may

Vary based on the region the climate and the individual gardening preferences which we just saw when we we talked about it but then finally I just wanted to also talk to you about Garden trends for 2024 and some of the things that you might want to consider as you’re

Planning your Gardens and different new ways and methods in gardening and we talked about that a little bit last week when we talked about Hydroponics and aquaponics aquaponics or my arrow gardening and indoor gardening soilless gardening methods and that is big the soilless gardening methods like Hydroponics growing plants and

Nutrient-rich water and aquaponics combining Aqua Culture and hydroponics are gaining traction particularly for those interested in sustainable and efficient food production so that’s something that one can tries and um then one of the things that they talk about too is indoor gardening and container gardening which we know about

That’s trending for some people but we’re we’re already um doing that growing plants indoors continues to be popular especially for people with limited outdoor space container gardening including small space and balcony gardening is a practical solution for urban dwellers yeah um I’m doing my hydroponic gardening this

Season yes yes says G Mama g m likes to explore um there’s another one here that I have I have um eight I’m going to end with sharing these um new gardening Trends and something to think about something to consider regenerative gardening this approach focuses on creating a self- sustaining and res uh

Resilient ecosystem in your garden involves building healthy soil using organic practices and promoting biodiversity and I kind of use that with the biodiversity by at you know mixing your your vegetables with your flowers I really love that method as you all know and I just uh I just see why not why not

Plant them all together um some people can’t see it that that way but uh yeah we’re going to grow grow grow together we’re going to wrap it up in a second here uh Sonia thank you then there’s vertical gardening utilizing vertical space is is an ongoing Trend the no dig gardening the

No dig or minimal tillage approach aims to disturb the soil as little as possible promoting soil health and biodiversity mulching heavily to suppress weeds and improved soil structure is a key component yes the no dig method and um Brooke has been using the no dig method for sure when now that she’s

Putting together her um her Rose Garden yes her yeah they can’t eat the Fresh Veggies of um indoor gardening and container gardening uh permaculture practice es more gardeners are incorporating permaculture principles such as designing Gardens to mimic natural ecosystems using companion part planting that’s me and integrating diverse plant species permaculture

Practices hydroponic practices native plants and pollinator Gardens yes doing that Fe you know I was thinking about that doing the wildf flower garden again and and smart gardening the use of technology and gardening is on the rise smart irrigation systems gardening apps and sensors that monitor the

Soil and um that is oh oh seed saving and heirloom varieties yes we’ve been doing that for sure with growing interest in preserving biodiversity and Seed saving and airlo Loom varieties yeah planting heirloom seeds and that’s where Baker Creek comes in with airoom seeds yay look at that isn’t that really interesting

Wow and finally Moon gardening um I have never thought about Moon gardening but some gardeners follow lunar gardening calendars which suggest specific times for planting pruning and harvesting based on the moon’s phases um but before adopting any new techniques or Trends it’s essential to consider your specific climate the soil

Conditions and gardening goals additionally stay up todate with gardening communities like mine blogs and local um Horticultural organizations can provide insights into the latest practices and Trends in your region yes so let us continue to grow grow grow grow together Catherine’s garden and home that’s right grow grow grow grow
