Well it’s January it’s cold the ground is frozen and the garden looks like this so what am I doing to prepare for a successful 2024 Garden season well I’m about to tell you my name is Jamie and this is Joy Homestead come with me and I’ll show you how I prepare for a

Successful summer growing season even though the ground is cold and Frozen and kind of just eh right now because we are in January this is the perfect time to plan and prepare for a successful summer garden so I’m going to show you today how I prep and plan the

First thing I did was this past weekend I pulled out all of my seeds and I keep these seeds in those plastic photo containers that most people are using these days I got mine off of Amazon um they are great the perfect size for seed packs and they keep everything safe and

Dry when we’re not using them so I went through did seed inventory made a list of everything everything that I have so I know exactly what I need to order so there are a few things I still need to order for the growing season um a couple

Of those things I’m not going to order yet because they’re time sensitive so onion starts potato um seeds those are the things I’m going to wait a little bit but the majority of the stuff I have and I predominantly use Urban Farmer for my seeds I found them as a fluke a few

Years ago so I wanted to plant some stuff it was actually red kidney beans I was looking for red kidney beans and no one had them online I looked at every seed company except for Urban Farmer they had them so I looked at their catalog and they have everything and

They’re a small family-owned business and they’re very easy to work with um their packaging is very environmentally friendly so I just stayed with them and I have zero complaints um there are a few varieties of vegetables or flowers that I want to grow that Urban Farmer does not have those like very specific

Special varieties ities so I might have to use Baker Creek or uh Johnny seeds something like that to get those but the majority of what I plant comes from Urban Farmer and I’ll put their link down below and you’ll notice that a lot of the images I’m going to show you

Today I I put PC Urban Farmer that’s photo credit cuz I took uh screenshots from their website because either it’s a new variety I have never planted or I just don’t have a really good picture of what I grew last year so starting with

The main Garden um so I have a 20x 24 ft main Garden that is fenced in and I also utilize the space around that fenced in garden and other little areas around our property so um when I’m talking about the main Garden that’s what’s fenced in

And then I have the extra areas when I go to plan I don’t use a fancy program um I use Google Slides so I use a I just open Google Slides you could also do this in PowerPoint or even in a Word document I mean this is pretty simple

Stuff here is I I just prefer the computer because it’s nice and straight because I can’t draw straight lines um so I make a grid and I’ll show you what that looks like where each box represents one square foot and the reason I do that is because I use the

Square foot planting method so it’s very intensive so you’re going to see that I can put 16 carrots in one foot nine bean seeds in one foot that is why my garden is on the smaller side I don’t have a large field or the the mark Garden style

Um I have that one main area plus the kind of side areas that I utilize as best as I can so you’ll see those little boxes each box represents one square foot and I go through and plan a based on where I planted last year I try to

Rotate the space and then as the year goes on I will once one thing has been harvested I will plant something in that same spot so when my green beans are done I’m going to put some dry beans in there so that way they can just sit

Until the end of the season so I’ll tell you that as I go through but there is one thing already growing out there that I planted back in mid October and that is garlic so last year I planted music garlic and oh it is so nice I love music

Garlic it is a hard neck variety it is a beautiful garlic flavor without too much punch cuz you know sometimes you have garlic you’re like woo this garlic is so nice so I am planting that and I’m also going to plant I also planted already did it back in October uh German white

Garlic it’s also a hard neck variety um I do not store them longterm so if I were using soft neck I would store long term so what I do with the garlic I go ahead and peel them and get the cloves out and I freeze them so I freeze my

Garlic and it works just fine for me there were only two of us it’s just my husband and I here in the house so when it comes to garlic I don’t don’t need large amounts usually at one time so this is the perfect way to keep the

Garlic longterm in the freezer and just pull out what we need as we need it so the garlic is already in now next to the garlic and this is on the outside it’s one of those perimeter Gardens that I have um I have onions so the onions will

Get planted actually in a few months it’s not too far away um I get my onion starts from dixondale farms and that’s one of the things I have not ordered yet but I do the intermediate day pack that they have cuz I am in Virginia Zone 6B

7A so we are right there in the middle in that intermediate zone so you have long day short day and intermediate day where I live it’s intermediate and what comes in this package it’s a like a sampler pack it comes with candy onions which are yellow Superstar which are

White and then red candy apple which are red I planted all three of these varieties last year and loved every single one of them they were very successful so I’m going to do that again I’m going to order extra of the candy yellow onions because that was my

Favorite of the bunch and I feel like I use it the most in in cooking so that’s the area right outside of the main Garden next to that I have some perennial herbs so I um planted some bbal lavender and also some dill now the dill was looking kind of rough at the

End of the season so I might have to plant some more but it tends to self-seed itself and come back every year so I’ll I’ll assess that in the spring and see if I need to plant more Dill but right now Dill bbal lavender garlic onions are in that one area right

Outside of the the main garden fence so now let’s hop into the garden one of the first things that’s actually I’m going to go beside it I’m going to go beside it so my main Garden is next to a garage and then I use that plastic green

Plastic fencing to make an area kind of extended off of the garlic and the onions and herbs and that’s where I plant potatoes so the potatoes that I planted last year was an experiment I planted them from store potatoes organic store potatoes they did okay so this

Year I’m going to do seed potatoes I’m going to get them from Urban Farmer um the varieties I’m going to use let me pull up my notes Here got my computer in front of me Yukon Gold Russet Burbank red Pontiac and kbec so that is kind of

A sampler pack you can get you get so many you get like a pound of each in the sampler so I’m going to get a few of those Samplers and plant those that will be one of the first things that go on the ground so that’s mid mid to late

March I’ll put those in so potatoes go along the outside of our garage which is next to the main Garden okay so now hopping back into the main Garden uh carrots so last year was a great carrot year um I planted the Scarlet I think

It’s nties N nons I don’t know how to pronounce it but scarlet nties and the emperator 58 I’m going to plant both of those varieties again um I was happy with both more happy with the Scarlet nties oh they were just they were easier to pull nice sweet carrot flavor so

Definitely doing those again I was able to can a ton of carrots last year um I used the smaller ones for I froze them for roasting so very good carrot year hoping to have another good year year this year so that’s the carrot varieties um now I’m going to hop into tomatoes so

Tomato is the crop that I need the most of we eat a lot of tomato based products whether it’s a marinara or a pizza sauce I would really love to try to make ketchup and barbecue sauce I haven’t done that yet Salsas just plain tomato sauce we use a lot of tomato products

Last year was a good good year but this year I want to make it better so I’m going to plant more paste varieties and more plants so first starting with the cherry tomatoes never have an issue growing cherry tomatoes they just go and go and go we eat those

Mainly in salads and then I’ll throw them in when I make Salsas and and marinara my absolute favorite variety of cherry of cherry tomato is Sun gold Sun gold tomatoes to me taste like sweet Sun shine in a bite they are so good they are my absolute favorite but I’m also

Going to plant again and I planted these last year so these might sound familiar the large red cherry and sweet million and I get all of those from Urban Farmer so these Tomatoes cherry tomatoes I’ll just eat them when I’m in the garden I’ll bring them in clean them up put

Them in a salad um but I will also put them in salces as well so I love cherry tomatoes but if you’ve ever grown cherry tomatoes they go on and on on and on you know it’s the end of September and you’re just sick of picking cherry

Tomatoes but that’s a good problem to have so those are the three varieties that I’m going to plant this year um as far as slicer Tomatoes which I will use for sandwiches you know that good Mater sandwich in the summer but also I’ll add them to salces to help bulk it up I’m

Going to do burpees Big Boy Burpee Big Boy slicer tomato that is a hybrid it is what I would consider the perfect red slicer tomato I love that one um I’m going to do Cherokee purple again I planted those last year and to me the flavor of Cherokee purple is amazing and

They’re beautiful so I really enjoyed those on sandwiches and just that seeing that kind of purplish color peeking through the Reds oh it’s so nice and then a new variety of slicer I’m going to try is pineapple I have never never tried the pineapple tomato

Before um so I’m going to try that just a few plants and see if I like it um I love to have a variety of colors so I think this could be a really nice addition to my slicer tomato Rose yeah okay so now on to the paste tomatoes I

Have always planted Romas Roma tomatoes are my staple paste tomato for my sauces um but this year I’m going to try a different type of Roma it’s called La Roma 3 like Roman Roman numeral 3 I’m going to try that it just looks like it’s a little meteor which is what you

Need for the sauce and then Amish paste I tried to get Amish paste seeds last year but by the time I got around to ordering them they were all gone so I’ve stocked up on Amish paste seeds and that’s what I’m going to do and if you

Look at my main Garden grid I have a lot of rows of tomatoes so I it’s over 50 over 50 plants if I can get all 50 to start I’m going to have over 50 plants of tomatoes okay so let me get I’ve got my notes in

Front of me so just going through them now let’s talk green beans green beans are so easy to grow we love green beans we eat them fresh I freeze them I can them green beans are great um I’m going to do three varieties this year my favorite variety is called tender green

Improved they just they are prolific and they taste great they’re easy to snap easy to harvest easy to grow I really love them and then we’re going to do the Blue Lake Bush and provider Bush as well so all of the beans green beans I plant

Are of the Bush variety and you’ll see I have a very long row of them and that’s against uh next to our garage wall so I’m going to plant those first and after they’re harvested I will then go through and plant the dry beans so dry bean

Varieties that I do let’s see if I have my notes in in front of me cuz it’s quite a bit of dry beans let’s see here don’t think I have it but I have um a do light red kidney dark red kidney beans Navy beans Pinto beans black turtle

Beans um I also have some of the Vermont cranberry shell beans which are very similar to a pinto bean but they have that pretty kind of pink um swirl on them and then last year we tried Dragon’s Tongue beans as well so I have all of those and once I’m done with the

Green beans I will make sure that area is nice and fluffed up give it some good fertilizer and some worm castings and then put some more beans in that area and that will be all dry beans so that’s kind of later in the summer season celery last year was the first year that

I grew celery and I used the Tango variety and it was okay I just put a few plants in the ground didn’t know if it if it was going to work how it was going to work but it did so I’m going to plant

Those again and now I know I need to let them uh grow just a little bit longer I think I picked them too young they were on the skinny side but I am going to plant that variety again just a little area of celery um that’s mainly used for

Soups and flavorings that’s you know that celery flavor um as far as herbs the herbs that I plant in the main Garden are basil and oregano I make a lot of pesto I use the basil and oregano in our marinara and in our um kind of Italian based things I

Use oregano in my um Taco mix that I make my taco seasoning so these are the two most utilized herbs that I grow um basil and oregano so when it comes to the different varieties oregano I only do one and it is the Italian oregano

That’s it um but I’m going to do two varieties of Basil this year large leaf Italian that’s my favorite and then the geneves basil which is on the sweeter side so that’s what’s going on with the herbs and you’ll see that I have planted them when you look at the Garden grid so

They are companion plants to um my tomatoes and peppers which helps with the pests cucumbers last year was an awful cucumber year normally there’s so many cucumbers you don’t know what to do but for some reason cucumbers just H they were kind of on the slow side last

Year I tried the Mexican sour gerkens For the First Time The cucam melons they were late to start and then they didn’t stop so cucam melons um I don’t know yet if I’m going to to plant them again this year they’re great for salads and for snacking but they’re it just becomes

Such a chore cuz they take over their little Vines go everywhere another uh variety that is going to be new to me this year is the lemon cucumber I have never grown them I think they look adorable it says they’re on the sweeter side even though they’re called lemon

They look like lemons so that’s why they’re called that um but I’m excited to try that also Mini Me cucumber is new to me that’s just the small little snacker size um but I have grown Carolina and the burpless bush slicer before and those are my two favorites so

At this point we’re going to have five varieties of of cucumbers growing out there um and all of those I get from Urban Farmer all of those seeds so now going to talk to you about Peppers this past year I don’t know what it was about 2023 but it was a pepper

Year they just went crazy which is great great cuz a lot of people struggle with peppers and it was we could not stop these plants they just kept going and going and going so the hot varieties that I’m going to plant are cayenne pablano Anaheim and jalapeno Cayenne I

Harvest those dehydrate them and turn them into a cayenne pepper powder that I use in a lot it’s in our chili base it’s in my taco seasoning um just use it for extra punch of a little kick of heat every now and then so Cayenne is the hot

Pepper that I use probably the most but pablano Anaheim and jalapeno are mild and I like to use a zoo jalapeno poppers to throw them into a recipe just to give a little bit of extra kick and this past year I made hot sauce with the pablano Anaheim and jalapeno together a mild

Sauce and I gave it out as gifts for this past Christmas and everyone loved it so I think I think that’s something that I can continue to do is to grow those and make a mild green hot sauce with those but we also grew Sugar Rush

Peach peppers last year and they are hot they are so hot um my husband and I don’t really like a lot of heat a lot of spice so I was growing those Peppers to make salces and Salsas for other people and now that I’ve done that um they’ve

Been able to taste it but as far as producing food for us here at the house that that’s not one of the main ones I’d rather spend the time and the effort and the space on Peppers we know we’re going to eat which this year a lot of sweet

Peppers I’m trying several new varieties of sweet peppers bell peppers I love bell peppers so uh last year I grew California Wonder easy beautiful bell pepper so you know you can pick it when it’s green you can let it ripe until it’s red California wonderand is just a

Staple in the garden um I tried to grow purple petite last year but none of my seeds started so I’m going to try again hopefully I can get some purple petite orange King is a traditional orange bell pepper and they’re they’re quite large so I’m hoping to get some of those

They’re on the sweeter side chocolate bell pepper I mean come on a chocy brown color pepper sign me up so I’m going to try that um the corot Toro mix are the small multicolored uh snacker Peppers I’m going to plant those I Islander Islander is a another purple variety but

It’s of the bigger size so it’s um it’s a traditional bell pepper it’s just a sweet purple bell pepper and last year I also started paprika seeds Alma paprika and they did not start and it was really disappointing um so I’m going to try that again because I would really like

To have my own paprika on the shelf and so I could have just regular paprika dehydrated from the peppers and then even do smoked paprika so that’s that’s a goal I really really want some paprika Peppers this year so lots of peppers going into that main

Garden um trying to see what else I have inside oh more companion plants so I plant flowers on the ends of the rows and in the little pockets to help bring in pollinators and keep away pests so maragold um every last year I had them

In the hanging plants and then I had a few down on the ground um so marag Golds this year are going to be interplanted in the ground in the main Garden nestam I tuck those into corners and they trail out and it’s absolutely beautiful I grew

Cingula for the first time last year and I’m going to grow it every year it is so beautiful and they got so kind of like big and bushy and wonderful so and I know there are lots of kind of herbal medicinal things you can do with cingula

So I’m growing those again and then my absolute favorite that I added to the main Garden last year which was a surprise to me cuz I’d never grown up before um are Mexican sunflowers so it’s called Tonia and it’s the Fiesta Del Soul variety they are gorgeous and I

Mean completely bushed out just a lovely site to see in the main Garden a pop of color they were absolutely gorgeous and they kept blooming into the hottest hot of the summer they really loved the heat so when all of the flowers were kind of dying back and looking kind of

Those Mexican sunflowers just poof they went crazy so I’m I’m definitely going to grow those again and they made beautiful cut flowers as well I put them in some arrangements now the hanging plants that I have that hang on hooks around the interior of the main Garden I’ve done um

I’ve put ners in there a couple years ago last year I did marigolds this year it’s going to be Snap Dragons so two different varieties I’m going to do the wine by color and the red yellow by color I think that they would just be if successfully grown beautiful pops of

Color up high I like to have different layers in the garden and they bring in you know all of the fun pollinators so we we like to take care of our our bees and butterflies around here um now on the exterior of the main Garden so along

The outside of the fence one whole row is going to be marro Golds so on the back end I’m I’m just going to plant Marigolds it’s kind of like a like a trap I’m going to keep that there to keep um the pest from coming into the

Backside of the garden and then along the longest fence that we have sunflowers and it’s so many varieties of sunflowers um I hope that they all take and that it will be just this massive row of all of these different varieties so I love sunflowers

And I went a little crazy with the seed shopping for sunflower but I have always grown procut orange procut red and procut red lemon I love them they grow well they don’t get too tall um they make beautiful cut flowers and they’re just beautiful to look at I I think of

Sunflowers as the Guardians of the garden they kind of tower over and look over and they they keep watch over the main Garden so this year I’m adding in the procut orange DMR it’s a smaller size um so I’m kind of do doing a layered effect so putting the smaller

Sunflowers in the front then the midsize and then the big boys in the back uh Pro Cut Plum is another one I’m going to add it’s that beautiful Plum color it’s almost like a like a burgundy to purple Pro Cut white light I’ve never grown white sunflowers going to try that out

Harley Quinn is just multicolored crazy all about that Autumn’s Beauty it’s the colors you’re going to see your oranges and yellows and reds um so those are going to come through Vincent’s choice looks like Vincent vango’s painting so you know just a beautiful regular looking sunflower but you can’t go wrong

With that that’s what everyone wants to see that beautiful beautiful yellow overlapped um petal sunflower um dwarf Sun gold double so these are shorter and they look like pom poms to me these like puffy um sunflowers Santa Fe Sunrise looks like a traditional sunflower except for um where the seeds are it’s a

Little bit different there’s like a a coloring change there and then American Giant so if I can get these to grow it says that they can grow up to 16 ft tall they are not going to go on me with the rest of the sunflowers I’m going to put

Them on our property border and kind try to make like a a privacy fence out of these American Giant sunflowers so fingers crossed that that works um we live out in the middle of nowhere but we do have neighbors and you can you know that nice to just have you know a little

Bit of a natural barrier there okay now going to um next to the sunflowers next to the main Garden I have a compost bin and then along our property fence on that side is going to be my squash winter squash pumpkin Garden so this uh there’s a lot going on here okay so

First I’m doing the golden zebra yellow summer squash that’s my go-to it is a hybrid last year squash and zucchini and pumpkins were a massive failure for me I only got a few pumpkins which is bizarre CU I normally get a lot of pumpkins handful of zucchini better for the

Yellow squash but it was just an odd year for the squashes um so I’m going to create a new space for them to give them more room and better protected so they will have the green fencing around them to keep the dogs out hopefully keep the pests out

But I need to be able to get in there and do more pruning and grooming and looking for pest because last year the way it was set up just was not very conducive for that so golden zebra yellow squash Black Beauty zucchini um that’s my favorite variety of zucchini

So hopefully those go um the walam butternut squash I got one one butternut squash last year and it was itty bitty so I would really like to get some more butternut squash and make some pumpkin butternut squash soups and freeze them and just have them them for those fall

Winter days when you want just the yummy cozy warm goodness of squash and butternut um so then uh as far as the pumpkins and I’m calling them pumpkins even though most of them are just technically winter squash so I have the fairy tale variety Long Island cheese I

Did get one Long Island cheese pumpkin last year one um white flat Boer those are the the cute kind of squatty long and squatty white um pumpkins Cinderella that’s that bright orange pumpkin Big Mac the big boys didn’t get any of that last year Young’s Beauty Young’s Beauty

Looks like your traditional um pie pumpkin in 2 years ago I got several of those last year none uh Casper Casper are um kind of like Young’s Beauty but white so they’re a white pumpkin uh the Burgess Buttercup those are the green ones with the yellow kind of streaky in

Them and they look more they’re definitely a winter squash so when you open them up they look more like a squash than a pumpkin blue hubard um did not get any of those last year so I’m not putting them on the end because from what I hear

Blue hubs can be a pest trap a trap plant for a lot of the squash bugs and Vine borers so they’re on the end and then hooligan are the the little cute tiny ones so I’m going to plant those again few years ago I had so many

Hooligan pumpkins I didn’t know what to do um two years ago great hooligan year this past year two had two teeny tiny pumpkins and that was it so just not a good year last year now in between in the empty spots I do kind of like a

Triangulation when I plant these um in between I’m going to put marigolds last year I only planted four marigolds around the entire squash bed nope this year I’m going to put marag Golds anywhere there’s a spot um to help deter pests and promote the good stuff to come

In so that’s my other kind of big Garden area that’s not in the main Garden um also I have next to our house a Zenia bed and I love zenas so sunflowers and zenas are my favorite favorite flowers to grow zenas grow so easily and they make the most beautiful cut flowers for

Arrangements so I will go out once a week and cut down a bunch and just have this multicolored beautiful bouquet in the house it just brings the outside in and I just think they are gorgeous the bees love them butterflies love them just you can’t go wrong with zinas so

Key lime pie I’ve grown those for two years now going to do it again whirly gig I love the whirly gigs they’re they kind of look like tie-dye they do this like ombre tie-dye effect California Giants I’ve always grown so those are the three that are my Staples I’m adding

A bunch more this year so I’m adding in Marty grow which are the purple yellows purples and yellows and whites it’s just a mix um apricot profusion to me they look more like a daisy than a Zenia but they’re gorgeous uh Envy is the kind of double headed the

Double petaled um green one so I’m going to grow that one Sora um it looks like um kind of like a frilly pom pom little pink frilly pom pom Sombrero has the yellow and the red going around Very Mexican looking um and then the Cherry by color profusion those

Also kind of have that daisy look those profusion zenas so I’m just I’m ready just to have zenas all day every day I absolutely love them and another thing that’s great about zenas um our dogs play in our Zenia bed so I do not put fencing around it they put put their

Balls in there they dig holes in there they run through there they chase animals through there and zenas are tough they keep coming back they’ll get knocked down and there they keep going so I like having those there in an area that is not as protected as the other

Areas of of our property um some other things growing um I have green stocks I have four green stocks and I keep them on our patio so the two taller green stocks are going to be for spinach and lettuce so Bloomsdale spinach and seaside spinach are going to go in one

And then my lettuce varieties in the other which are Jericho butter crunch and green ice so those will get put into they will get planted probably soon so I’m going to start them inside and go ahead and harvest inside under grow lights and get the Lett uses going and

Then probably the second round is what I will transplant out into the green stocks now traditionally I’ve had two green green stocks dedicated just to strawberries and it’s been okay um I want to try to put strawberries in the ground this year so I have them already

In the green stock so I’m just going to take those uh The Roots the strawberry roots that are sitting there they’re it’s winter right now so they’re all dyed back and then just plant the entire um entire root system into the ground so we did our house has been we’ve been

Doing like fixing uping for years now that’s Cadence my cat he’s talking to you um so we have been fixing up our house for years now and one of the things we did is we um we redid our back deck so I’m thinking there’s an area

Right next to that kind of a perimeter area where the strawberries would do really well and it’s close to where they grew last year so the same um amount of sun and it’s easy to water so I think that that might be what we do with the strawberries now other things on our

Property that that we have that I do not have to plant we have an older blueberry bush that grows in our backyard and it produces so many blueberries and we love it so much so it’s been there for at least 15 years and that plant I don’t

Have to worry about it just does its thing and we reap the benefits um then last year I planted three more blueberry plants and three raspberry plants um in our front yard area so last year they were just you know basically sticks so I’m excited to see how those work out

For this year I’m going to um prep around them get them some fertilizer make sure it’s nice and cleared out and mulched and give them some support this year because we might be able to get some fruit off of that so that’s exciting um I think that’s everything I’m planting that’s a

Lot um I’m super excited for this growing season I learned new things every single day and the last few years of gardening have just um opened my eyes to so many things and hearing other people’s stories and talking to to local neighbors and friends about their triumphs and what they consider failures

Which by the way there is no such thing as a failure in gardening because it’s just a learning experience because things are not going to work out you’re going to expect one thing and get something completely different and that’s okay that’s that’s what it means

To be a gardener um I am not an expert I have only been gardening for a few years and I do my learning learning from watching YouTube videos and reading books and Instagram posts and talking to people about what they plant and how it works what works it’s it’s all kind of

Individual in a way because everyone’s soil is different everyone has different time you know the shade and light of their yards or Gardens so gardening is a very um personal experience but you can take other people’s experiences and kind of know some things that might might

Happen so kind of know what to expect but I’m super excited about this um I’m already dreaming up different recipes using these vegetables in them and different ways to preserve them with canning and freezing and dehydrating and just kind of using every bit that comes

Out of this garden and a little tip um I am growing vegetables and varieties of things that I know we will use I am not growing kale because we do not eat kale um I have some peanuts that some peanut seeds that I tried to do last year and

It just didn’t work I would love to grow peanuts but that was a lot of time and effort and space that I would rather devote to something I know were going to eat um and I know I’m playing a lot of flowers but the flowers are beneficial when they’re beautiful and they make

Everyone smile but they bring in the good the good stuff and they keep away the bad stuff so flowers to me are a necessary part of this whole gardening experience um like I said I’m not an expert but if you subscribe to the channel you’ll get to see how I

Start these plants inside I do have um I call it the grow room it’s just a spare room in our house where I have the metal shelving with some grow lights so I start most of the stuff inside and then transplant it out when um the summer season begins but if that’s something

That you’re interested in watching and you want to see how these varieties turn out or don’t turn out because that might happen then subscribe to the channel and keep coming back you know hit that little notification Bell so you’ll know when I post a new video but I’m excited

I hope you’ll join me um on this 2024 gardening experience if you have questions leave them in the comments I might not know the answer but I might be able to direct you to the right place but thanks so much for sticking with me this has been a long video I didn’t

Think it would take this long but thanks for joining me I hope you come back and visit and I hope you have a great day and happy growing I have a feeling that 2024 is going to be a really great growing year for all of us thanks again

For watching I hope you have a great day and I’ll see you soon

  1. I also love to grow winter squash! One help that I have found to deter squash pests is to plant white icicle radishes along with the squash and just let them continue to grow throughout the season.
I enjoyed seeing your garden plan. I just moved to a new place, so I am needing to reconfigure my whole garden this year.

  2. Last year was a terrible pumpkin/squash year for me also. I have four grandchildren and was worried I wouldn't have one pumpkin for each of them. We just squeked by. Usually I am giving away pumpkins, large and small, to the neighbors.. I ended up having to buy a large pumpkin to carve. I will be at war with the squash bugs and vine borers right from the beginning.

  3. Marigolds don't deter pests. Rather, their scent conceals the scents of other vegetables. Essentially, they make your vegetables harder to find. Interplanting is the best way to use Marigolds. The only damage I've had on Marigolds is cut worm and leaf miner damage.
