Raised Bed Planting Guide for Beginners

Here’s a quick time lapse to show us planting up a 4′ x 8′ raised garden bed. If you’re just starting out or are new to intensive planting, you’ll see that you can fit a LOT more plants into a raised bed than you think. I promise this spacing gives each plant enough room to grow to its full potential!

You’ll notice we fill the outer edges with herbs and flowers and then put tall leafy greens like kale and Swiss chard behind them. The middle of the raised beds is for larger plants. Lastly, we planted seeds for vining plants by the base of the trellis.

  2. Leading into the winter season, I just threw down lots of lettuce and arugula seeds. I didn't figure I'd get anything, but I'm about to enjoy my first salad! I'm shocked by how much you can fit in your garden bed. Great inspiration!!

  3. Wonderful video! Usually i have a bunch of the same thing in one area of my raised bed with labels of what it is, but I'm inspired now to just place things all around!! Love this approach!
