Silver Birch are a beautiful tree, relatively short-lived, pioneer species. I’m planting them in a thick stand, against some native Bloodtwig Dogwood. Then, prune the Dogwood and scrub the Silver Birch (seriously!) to get a white and red colour contrast.

Greetings and welcome my name is Jake rayon I’m a wildlife forest garden designer and I’m on at s today uh and I just pared some more silver birch so just kind of just for the record really talk about where I put them so the main entrance to the site comes comes down
From there from the house and then the path goes around all the way around to the bottom uh and this middle kind of stand here uh I’ve put already put in some silver birch which CLI has grown and I’ve dis pled a few more today um so I planted that one
Today originally I put like dead Hedges but actually you can see where the bits of bamboo are those there’s three Corner smk down there but that bamboo that bamboo this one with the dead hedge another one there so there’s 1 2 3 4 5 6
7 8 9 10 11 12 and I’ll put one at the end just a single Silver Birch at the end there so this will make a big stand hopefully of Silver Birch with very white bark you can actually clean the bark uh as well um and that makes it
Much brighter you can wash it if you if you’re so inclined and then down the bottom there is a row of corner sanguinia is blood twig dogwood which goes very R particular when you prune it you can prune it quite hard so that all that all the way along there will be red
And then all here will be white it be white against bread amongst many other things as well so that’s just the the idea behind this planting so um and then keeping them together and then you can always take them out you can prune them out if they’re too close together but
They’ll be quite upright and then you take off the lower branches as well when as they’re growing to let more light in for the rest of the garden so they don’t kind of block out the light but Silver Birch got small leaves anyway so see how
It goes and just play it by ear rather than having like set set kind of design for Stuff there we go I would say words of design wisdom but not exactly um so Silver Birch in and I’m just yeah going to keep on um keep on gardening bye
