Garden Design tip from @oofarm_maui: Work with Mother Nature!

We had our “B garden” designed to not only appear very aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but to also work with mother natures ebbs and flows.
Our subtropical environment here in upper Kula, Maui, experiences both drought and heavy rainfall. With the raised garden beds and intentional curvature, when we do have heavy down pours of rain, the water is slowed slightly, and is able to sink deeper into the earth and then when we experience times of drought, the roots have a deeper “reserve” of water to pull from (garden is on a slope). We also lessen the loss of crops during big rains by raising and curving the beds so that the water is less likely to wash out newly planted seeds as the mini streams flow down the aisle spaces.
