This design was created to spruce up a heavily-wooded lot whose existing planter beds had been taken over by ivy and weeds. We used colorful shade-tolerant shrubs and landscape lighting to frame the pathway to the courtyard, with focal plantings such as Japanese maples and hydrangeas to fill out the existing planters and add curb appeal to the front yard. In the courtyard, we feature a “lace-leaf” Japanese maple that is accented with shrubs such as gardenias, nandinas, and anise to transform the courtyard into a colorful entryway to this home.
