Plant Onions & Leeks NOW – December is your last chance for warm climate gardeners #onion #plants

Don’t forget to plant your onions and leeks before the end of December – if your located in the South USA garden zones 8-11. Onions and leeks take about 3 months to get to transplant size from seed. So it is too late to start them from seed BUT you can plant transplants.
1. Purchase transplants from local nurseries if you can, because they carry the varieties that grow best in your area. If you cant find any locally, then search online.
2. Onions need full sun and lots of nitrogen to gather enough energy to produce large bulbs.
3. Double check if your located in a short day, long day, or intermediate day zone so you select the correct variety of onion to plant in your garden. For example, most southern gardeners (people who grow onions during the winter), will have to plant short day onion cultivars.
