Hey guys what’s happening today let’s talk some seeds for 2024 and that’s what’s going on at nose House hey welcome back to the channel welcome back to the bench this is a gardening video but we are uh we’re not in the Garden today we’re not building anything we’re not moving beds around we’re not doing anything like that although it yeah probably be a it’d be a

Terrible day at doing it we had about two three inches of snow last night and then it started raining and it’s muddy and it’s nasty um but this is a gardening video so what are we going to do today we’re going to talk about some seeds what are the seeds that we have

For 2024 what did I get what am I planning on growing for 2024 well let me tell you oh I’m sitting down here I got a beautiful got a beautiful pipe going on this cold rain January day oh I also got I started making me a list things I need to talk

About um let’s see got my seeds um this year not the coolest of envelopes um these are seeds from Baker Creek seeds I’ve been using Baker Creek seeds for about five or six years now and if you’re looking for a Seed Company Baker Creek seeds always seem to deliver

Although last year not their fault there was a big mixup across the board across the whole gardening industry in the United States um on pepper seeds so I thought I was growing uh pepper and cheis and it turns out I was growing H penos but they came out really good we

Dried some we made powder we ate some they’re pretty good anyway the seeds I have for uh 2024 and these are the new seeds and I’m going to talk a little bit about my carryover seeds as well and if you buy um seeds from Baker Creek and you order x amount

They always send you a couple packets of Something Free and this year pretty excited about uh one of them oh my my iPad keeps going off I’m leave that up because I got more information on there I am going to grow these are some bush

Beans and I had a pretty good uh go at some bush beans last year but the funny thing is I bought them from a uh uh like a feed store and they were just like a bulk type Bean in a bag I don’t know

What they were but this year I’m G to go with Odin Bush and I have two packages of those because figure one just wouldn’t do so we’re going to do some Odin Bush um I got this new Choy variety that I have never grown before and it is

Called Snow White and I’m going to get in like I said some carryover seeds if you think this is all I’m growing well you’re sadly mistaken my friend all right so we got snow I gotta figure out place of putting these because they phone they’re falling all over the place

Guys put them right there now this is something I want to grow I grew one of these last year by accident and it was so good it was so sweet so tender and I didn’t even realize I had the seed I thought I was starting zucchini a uh

Summer squash well I ended up starting a spaghetti squash so I said man I got to get some spaghetti squash to seriously grow this year so I got these Warsaw Warsaw pasta and if you guys haven’t um tried spaghetti squash I know if you’re if you’re watching this gardening video

You’re in the gardening say you know if you’re watching uh this video because you’re one of my uh pipe smoking guys don’t look down on spaghetti squash it’s actually it it’s very good it’s tender it’s sweet with some good sauce I mean you cook it up with some olive oil and

Salt and pepper and if you’re here for the gardening um check out some spaghetti squash and if you have uh whack me a comment down below if anything I talk about any of these seeds I talk about or things that you’ve grown before if you got some tips and tricks

For me you know something like that um I always say I’m never going to do um any more herbs because I have I have a terrible time growing herbs but I saw this and and I just it’s so good to have fresh and I didn’t want to buy a

Plant because they’re kind of expensive is oregano so I got this version of oregano and uh I’m really excited to give it a go I’m going to spend a little bit more time starting my seeds this year to be a little more precise I’m doing with times because I was looking

At my spreadsheet that I do and last year I screwed up my seed starting Times by almost a month I started them almost a month late because I had my frost date wrong anyway um also I’m going to grow some of this parsley because right now

As I speak it it’s January 7th I still have parsley growing outside I have it mulch pretty heavy with leaves and I love this curly parsley I’m using it more chopping up putting it in dishes not just using it as a CA on the side and this popped up when I was

Looking through the Seed Catalog online and I just I don’t know how to go for it oh and by the way Baker Creek seeds if you guys are watching this um anybody any Seed Company watching this I would really appreciate it if you guys would

Email me and say hey do you still want a paper catalog because I don’t and I’m kind of guessing that a lot of gardeners are feeling that too not that I don’t mind I used to love sitting there and look at through the seed catalogs I get

A lot of seed cataloges in the mail places that I haven’t bought from in years and to me it’s just kind of a waste of resources uh paper you know the the whole thing when everything’s online and you can you got it rate on your uh phone there summer squash now I did

Finally grow some zucchini last year and I was pretty excited and this year I’ll check these out these are like an eightball type um zucchini they’re condo sakuro D parena Senza I don’t know but they look super cool and I would really like to have some nice round squash and

That way too if you want to fry them you can cut them and you’ll get these big rounds to fry and how cool is that going to be um I didn’t really I wasn’t really into buying pepper seeds this year but this was one of my freebies I got and this is

A Datil datal pepper and reading the description 100 days blazing hot blunt Little 3 and 1/2 in Fruit ripens to a brilliant orange yellow vicious heat complex and fruity flavor so this one I’m definitely going to be talking about if I can get them to come good and get

Some of them I’m thinking we’re going to have some spice so I’m gonna leave them because I’m want to talk about these guys last and now I don’t know why I bought so manyy and after I place the order and after I got the order I was like a son

Of a man I I got one two three four five six varieties of tomatoes and when I talk about my carryover seeds you’re gonna say holy crap dude I know this is what I got I got the pink Fang and these are supposedly a Roma style tomato that are really

Incredible I got uh some more bourges because I’ve been growing these the past couple years and and I really like to do this fermentation on my cherry tomatoes and these they grow real nice good size they start coming in together have a firm flesh and they take to that um

Brining that that it’s almost like a fermentation pickling process super good and they grow like mad so I was out of those seeds so I got some more of those and check these out Purple Rain oh how good look at how good those things look um oh another thing I heard some people

Talking about you know you pay four or five bucks for tomato seeds and I’m only getting 25 many plant you’re really growing man unless you have a farm and I’ll probably carry those seeds over for a year or two and oh thorb burs terracotta I got these um description

Was good but the picture alone I was like I I gotta I have to try these I have to try these and then another um Cherry style grape style I middle of those I’m not really sure I got Brad’s Atomic grape oh how cool do those look I cannot

Wait to make a video showing these things oh and I got another free packet I got a pack of lettuce Mero I did try to grow Mero a few years ago and with not much success but last year I had a good bit of success with

Lettuce because I took my time I pricked it out I had it in my trays I put it out the right time so let’s go with some mer now these two packets here I have the worst luck on the planet with growing onions I’ve grown some green onions um

Is what we call them here in my house um oh you know what let me let me look okay let see a green thing um in England they call them spring onions and bulbing onions onion onions I’ve never grown one that was worth eating that was more than like a nickel

And it’s always kind of bothered me and I was like I’m done growing onions and I haven’t tried to grow bulb onions in a few years but I started reading about the uh you know late onions late day onions early day onions all that with your son and I looked at my gardening

Zone and and I really I really got into researching what type of onions are probably going to go best for me in I’m in zone 6B Western Pennsylvania and where I live it’s actually a weird little sliver of a microclimate CU I live on a big steep hill and with the

Wind and the Sun so I said okay this year I’m going to go for it again I’m going to try to grow yellow sweet Spanish and these are from seed which today January 7th if I have enough time I’m GNA start onions today because there’s a couple people I’ve

Been watching in England and uh they’re already getting their onions going and I was talking to one guy and he’s like yeah I’d get them going now so I’m really going to try to get my onions to go and other one I’m going to do yellow of Parma

Uh these are long day type onions and this is a rare Italian variety large golden onions or oblong Globes this late onion makes an excellent keeper okay you got you got me oh jeez almost dropped them all on the floor you know you you got me on

That so these are the seeds that I’m I’m going with this year my Baker Creek seeds and it’s actually not as many seeds as I usually buy um every year because I really started getting more into my spreadsheets and caring over not I used to throw seeds away

After a year when I was young cuz I thought well glass of white wine it’s a Sunday I’m relaxing I’m went out to lunch it’s okay so let me get the old iPad over here and we’re gonna talk carryover so I have a nice spreadsheet I

Have figured out now this is Caro from last year and this is why I really didn’t have to buy as many seeds as I did I have some Rosemary I have some Italian plain leaf parsley when going to get that in the ground I have like a

Packet and a half two packets of sage it’s kind of old I don’t know I don’t ever remember ordering it and or growing it also I have some fennel I I I don’t remember I have five types of carrot seed and all the seed should be viable

And this year I plan on getting rid of all the carrot seed cuz I always end up buying a packet of big box door something like that but I’m planning on getting rid of all my carrot seed this year and that way next year I can start

Fresh with carrot seed I got some Harris par Snips I got tons of radish seed um I found a packet of shallots which I’m probably going to try to start them today too um I found a packet of leaks didn’t even know I had those but I’m

Going to try starting them I have five six seven types of lettuce seed and you guys know that seed it’s so fine and you start it and you get hundreds of Little Sprouts so I like to go through my lettuce seed I found some spinach seed

Now I do have um some cabbage holdovers oh and I did buy some big box store stuff so I’ll go over that too I have four different types of kale which we have finally discerned the kale that we really really like and it is the the the curly the Vates I have

Listed is my favorite I have some winter Choy some bok choy a little bit col Robie seed last year was a total fail for col Robie so I might mess around I have some different places um and we’ll talk about that this is going to be a

Long video so if you’re here like subscribe share the video around oh I made that and I put a little star around it and I wanted to say that in the beginning and I forgot but hey like subscribe share the video around uh tons of gardening videos yest Year I hope to

Do more gardening videos um but I appreciate everybody who watches them uh tomatoes these are my holdover tomatoes I have a still have a couple of the old Romas and they were big box door fairy Morris and those Romas grow like Matt I have some red Roso I have a

Couple of the Cherokee purple Baker Creek seeds and then I also bought a package the Cherokee purple Botanical inter seeds because they were at the one Feed Store I was at and a sport uh epic gardening and everything and I really wanted to try them so we’ll see how they

Go and I have a class classic beef steak I have a few of those seeds left now I have one two three four I have five uh types of pepper seeds and two of them the Peno and the paprika peppers are basically all H saved I saved tons of

Seeds from when I was drying and doing stuff last year so I’m really hoping that those seeds um are viable and we get some plants um I have a couple P SE left I have H qu load and I have melting sugar I have not much luck growing peas but I

Got a plan this year um I have some homes saved green bean seeds those are the ones that I got at the feed store last year and I saved some and I have another H variety of beans I have a huge packet of beets but I have a good idea

For where I’m put the beets this year too and I have some H saved fava beans which I’m going to put them in but I’ve tried growing favas for two or three years and it is has been a big waste of my time I barely got any out compared to

What I put in and it takes up a lot of space I may give them one more go with these home save seed and just to see how it goes now I did buy some big box store stuff I bought some bunching onions which like I said in my house we call

Them green onions you know the little scallions you know you chop up little salt on them in England I do believe they call them uh spring onions and I have two types of them um I have two types of uh basil which I don’t buy

Basil online I buy it to The Big Box store it’s it’s relatively to same price and I’ve had really good um luck growing needs and these are all fairy Morris seeds I bought some Fairies Cabbage and I bought one two three four five types of cucumber because last year I had some

Good cucumber crops too and I wanted to go for maybe some uh different ones I have green dragon National pickling pickle Bush spacemaster oh and I put a tomato in there I’m sorry but the spacemaster is a uh Botanical interest and that’s where I have my Cherokee purples I bought from

Botanical interest and those are tomatoes not cucumbers got switch my thing up here and then all the seeds that I purchased so that’s pretty much all the seeds I have and I know you’re saying holy crap no that’s a lot of seeds do you own a farm I don’t own a farm but

Always be Zone always be growing I have some different plans I’ve expanded my beds um if you guys haven’t uh got in on the uh big bed rebuild the middle bed rebuild I think I named it I’ll throw a card for that up um and I did create a

Playlist that is just about me messing around and building garden beds so check that playlist out alrighty so what else do I have on my list I talked about that I talked about that um my new bed design if you guys haven’t seen it like I said check

The card out or go back can look at the middle bed rebuild I do believe that’s what I called it and um I put two beds where I replaced one big long bed and it’s to get my wheelbarrow around and I have them kind of staged just about

Where they need to go but we got this bad weather coming in I’m going to fill them up I’m going to get them going and I can’t wait and I can’t I have an idea what I’m going to put in there um but that’s going to be good all the medium

That I took out of there if you haven’t seen I designed and I built two inground beds um cardboard medium you know right on top of some old rotted down wood chip and those inground beds I haven’t done like that in years no sides no wood lot

Of slugs lot of snails so this should uh solve that issue uh uh uh now out front where you guys where I grow my garlic where my Garlic’s planted again this year H I grew tomatoes out there last year where the beds are at and then my yard goes up

And there’s my maple tree that me and my daughter planted o probably wow man 12 13 years ago I’m thinking of squaring off some beds out there made out of some good pallet wood with some linseed oil on it I got figure out how to do it but because it’s a big slope

I’m going to square off and I’m going to put some step beds in there I do believe because I have a really good time growing out front Tomatoes love to grow out there garlic loves to grow out there and I’m not going to make them real deep

Just maybe six inches is all I really need just to square it off when it’s like that and it’ll come and I and I’m just going to cardboard it I’m going to go back mess with it a little bit I’m going to put some compost I’m going to

See if we can get some good stuff going there I’m just going to try a couple beds this year and if it works out really nice we’re going to keep expanding up that Hillside um let’s talk about seed trays this is another thing um my sea trays

That I really like are starting to wear out they’re old they’re they’re they’re crapping out on me I’ve been looking I can buy some of the Charles doubting sea trays um in America uh from a place online and I was going to get the 60 a

30 and two of the 15s that comes in this variety pack what do you guys think about that do you guys think I should spend some money on good sea trades that are probably going to last longer or kind of the throwaway ones that have lasted a long time but they’re really

Starting to falter out on me and I have other SE trades I bought off Amazon that are thick but I had to make the hole in the bottom bigger and sometimes they don’t grow right what do you guys think about seeg Trace uh whack me a comment

Down below and let me know if you think it’s worth spending extra money to get something like the Charles doubting or the Epic six cell um manure experiment so I got this manure I get horse manure from this place and then I was watching David the

Good and he was talking about all the bad things that happen in his garden because the cows and the horses where he was getting his manure were eating this grass that was sprayed with this chemical to stop these weeds and then they ate it and then they pooped it out

And their manure turns out it was in there he put it on his garden and it killed everything so I start getting nervous so I just got this big load of HSE manure I got it over there it’s really broken down from the place I got

It I mean Super broken down and it’s going to sit there for the next couple months too it’s been sitting there for six weeks probably already so I saw this experiment where you take a couple uh shovel fulls of HSE manure you put it in

A bucket you put some water in there you mix it up mix it up and then you use that water on some legum seedlings and I have two pee plants started and I have two uh bean plants started and they’re getting big they’re about like this and

They’re almost to the point where I’m going to separate them put them in their own trays I’m going to water one with just regular water and I’m going to water the other one with the horse manure water that I made and they say if that HSE manure has that chemical in it

That it will Wilt the leaves and basically it’s going to kill the plant so fingers crossed that when I do water it with a Horseman or water that it doesn’t kill my plant and and that the horse manure I have is not tainted with this chemical I was going to write the

Chemical’s name down but I didn’t but check out David the good um I’ll try to leave a link down below um of the video where he talks about it and it’s that’s a terrible thing that’s happen because manure is such a good thing for your

Garden and for Fields but if it has a chemical in it and it’s killing things it’s not going to do us any good if I do have that tainted horse man or where it’s at on the other side I’m just going to get it and I’m going to throw it over

The hill because over there that’s just where I throw brush and stuff like that in that and then will be good to go over there uh seed starting mix what seed starting mix do you guys use I like Happy Frog um the I did get the the ocean

Looking one and it lost out in this one video I was watching the uh the Happy Frog in the brown bag is uh a fox farm Happy Frog that was the best um for seed starting um and I’ve been using that for a couple years and I

Started sifting it because you do get a lot of chunks of wood and stuff like that and I put that in my bag of shredded paper and I put that in a compost bin but what do you guys use to start your seeds do you like coconut

Core because I know a lot of people make a mix with coconut core seeds don’t need U the all the vitamins and minerals so to speak they just it’s in the seed but I’ve been having a lot lot of luck with the fox forms and that’s more than

Likely I’m going to start all my stuff this year um oh I was talking about I was thinking you know use my phone for this and I’m thinking about getting a camera a new video camera specific for making YouTube videos um for you guys who make

Videos out there and I don’t mean you know the big guys like you know epic gardening and self-sufficient me what do you guys use for your cameras and what do you guys think of the quality of my videos do you think the phone’s good enough I mean I’m not not I’m not going

To be on a today show anytime soon but um I keep looking up because I can’t see my monitor um what do you guys think I I’ve been thinking about getting uh a new camera specifically for making YouTube videos and I got some new editing software because I’m not sure I don’t

Think I talked about it on the guarding end of my channel my computer that I had for 12 years which is right over there kind of behind you it is oh oh was my HP Vision had it for 12 almost 13 years and finally it you know

It went on me so I had to get a new PC which I bought a refurbished one off of Amazon and I was going to send it back because it had a couple bugs in it well the price I got it for just a few hundred dollars it has some computing

Power and I have my old my old hard drive so I was able to keep uh my old hard drive from my old computer and other computer so all that’s good I have all my content but I work this PC out that will not run my old editing

Software I don’t know I I I deleted it all I reinstalled it it will not run it so I got new editing software and I’m still getting used to it but hopefully they say it’s a more powerful more professional style um editing software so hopefully it

Is something that’s cool I can do some edits and you know some freezes some speedups or you know whatever but it is taking a little bit of time to get used to so hopefully that makes some better videos in 2024 and now a lot of well not a lot of

People but some people ask like what what do I watch on YouTube and I watch the big ones um but these are my main gardening videos that pretty much when they come out every week every two weeks I’m watching these videos there’s no doubt about it um epic gardening if

You’re in the gardening and you don’t watch Kevin and jock at Epic gardening are you really even a YouTube Gardener um but if you don’t know who epic garding is if you don’t know who Kevin asiru is um just search epic gardening you got epic gardening epic homesteading and he’s he does some

Really cool stuff really nice take some of his things with a grain of salt a lot of these because he is in San Diego which I think is 10B I’m in uh Western Pennsylvania which is 6B so some of the things he’s talking about they don’t really transfer to my

Zone but it’s really good to hear all this stuff and he has a a lot of really really good content um self-sufficient me that’s his sweatshirt I’m wearing right now um Mark and he is in Australia same thing you have to take what he’s saying and kind

Of extrapolate into you know your Zone but he is so passionate and he’s the one who got me into the raised garden beds um the metal raised garden beds and he also has a self-sufficing me which is a fishing channel which is really cool but check out self-sufficient me a wonderful

Channel he does some really cool stuff and he’s a great guy and one of my favorite channels and not a lot of people although he has he has a good following is uh John Ste homesteading down under and he is actually in Tasmania and he’s one of my favorite

Gardeners because he’s just a simple basic he builds really cool stuff and he’s a homesteader and he’s off the grid and he’s a super nice guy and his garden is amazing aming and go back and look at his whole catalog um I I message him all

The time through you know the the thing on YouTube and he’ll respond to me and he’s a he’s a super super great Gardener makes a lot of stuff does some pretty cool cooking videos um you know some vegetarian stuff really good guy oh I mentioned before David the good he is

Finally I think settled on more of a homestead he’s kind of on the uh uh Florida Alabama line around there and David the good has composting videos he has this grocery Road gardening um all his kids are there he’s building these really cool compost things if you go

Back and look at his catalog he’s lived all over I mean he’s in Florida he was in oh South America I think Central America but serious Garder and you can learn a lot of stuff from David the good uh the gardening Channel with James fion he’s in Jersey a little closer to

Me so a lot of times I can get a little more out of his videos because of just the Zone closeness but James and Tuck um his videos are awesome I have learned tons of stuff about building beds out of um pallets um times to start your Tomatoes how to do

Things um building the hinged hoop houses if you guys go back and look when I built my Hench ho hoop houses I got that from uh the gardening Channel with James Pion I mean great um Jac in the garden he is one of H Kevin is spiritu from Epic

Jacqu is the garden hermit he started working with um Kevin during uh the pandemic and now he has his own channel as well and his garden is free flowing and he does some really nice stuff some really good builds really cool chicken Coupe if you uh ever would watch one of

My videos y’ I’ll just tell you that really cool Chicken Coop actually we’re like 28 minutes nobody’s watching you know who’s watching this me when I make sure that the video looks good but anyways um Liz zorub by the farm she is another uh Gardener overseas she is in

England and her and Mr Jay have a wonderful piece of property and they’re always building stuff and their Gardens are really coming along they just moved two three years ago to this place and it is a great Channel give them guys will watch and finally I’ll round it up with

The people that I watch all the time anybody guess who he is if you’re a gardener come on you gotta watch him Charles doubting the king of no dig he is uh on the tops of of my list I have learned more stuff about seed propagation from him uh pricking out

Lettuce uh putting it in the in the in the trays um what times the plan out multiwing you name it Charles doubting has it down and he’s just expanded his garden because he bought that other piece of property and he’s building a pond so definitely if you are new to

Garden you new to my Channel or you’re getting into it these are these are the people in 2024 you really want to watch and there’s always going to be somebody else pop and there’s certain channels I I’ll watch here and there when I see a video but these are the guys I’m always

Watching their content when it comes up but uh wow that was a lot of stuff I talked I talking for a half an hour about seeds and gardening but that’s kind of my plans for 2024 I hope to make some more videos um I well I’ve had

Videos coming out but I I made them before I actually haven’t made a new video in close to a month because right before Christmas a week before Christmas me my wife got super sick and we didn’t have covid we tested for that we didn’t have

That but I had this chest thing going on I cough so much I felt like I went 10 Rounds with Tyson my my stomach hurt so bad from coughing and and I felt like I had the flu and let me tell you what it was awful and then you would start feeling

Better and think you’re getting better and then bam it would hit you back again so I was really I was really knocked down until about a week ago I didn’t feel 100% And now finally I’m really back to myself um I want to get out start making some gardening videos like

I said it’s inclement weather right now so to speak but hey that’s Pittsburgh um but all in all I’m happy uh that January’s here like I said I think today I’m GNA try to start some onion seed and I’m going to mess around with getting my Hors manure

Water experiment going on and hopefully fingers crossed everybody Good Vibes that I have good um and order for my garden because if I don’t ah it’s just a lot of work getting rid of it well that’s 2024’s seeds and plans in a nutshell for at Noah’s house um I want

To thank everybody that watched in 2023 that commented in 2023 and 2023 was a really good gardening year tons of tomatoes and peppers and beans and we had a really good I had a really good time in the garden and I hope you guys had a really good time in your

Garden but that’s about all I have to say I’ve been talking long enough sitting down at the bench next to the heater having a glass of wine and smoking a pipe um oh shoot me some comments some stuff maybe you want to see some stuff

You want to see if I can grow some stuff you want to see if I can build maybe I’ll get my little Tool Shed finished this year I don’t know well that’s all I have I’m Noah from the bench talking gardening seats thanks for stopping [Applause] [Applause] By

  1. I used to have a beautiful garden every year I thought about planting a garden in my daughters yard I may talk to her this year about that after I get my shoulder surgery behind me good luck with your brother

  2. Youve got a great plan Noah! Looks like i better get busy too. Planning and prep is a big part of what i enjoy about growing things.

  3. Thank you for the mention! Talking about editing, my computer is from 2011 – I do all my editing on it. iMac with 16 gigs of RAM. My two cents on building YT: The most important thing is to keep your editing tight and keep videos focused on one topic. If it starts to feel boring, make a cut or throw in something cool/funny/surprising. After that, get a mic. Bad audio is a video killer. I use a shotgun with a "dead cat" on it to filter the wind. Huge help. Anyhow, it doesn't take much. Even if you film on your phone, you can build a successful YouTube channel.

  4. Thank you for the mention. I'm so glad that my videos have helped, inspired and hopefully, made you laugh, along the way. I am about to sit down and sort through and choose which varieties of plants I'll be growing in the veg garden this year. Winter really is a great time for having a perfect garden – it all unravels a bit once I get outside and actually start doing the gardening!

  5. Oh, yes. When I was growing up, my favorite time of year was when the seed and nursery catalogs started coming in. I'd usually manage to buy I new fruit plant, borderline hardiness for my part of New England, and set it out to see if I could nurse it along. Have fun! 😊
