All my organic potting soils were killing seedlings. I read the ingredients…limestone dust. So I found my PH test strips. Right away it revealed a PH near 8. I have a bottle of PH down and mixed some in a water bottle and poured it around arugula with purple stunted leaves and a yellow micro dwarf tomato seedling that looked dead. Arugula turned green and a green top appeared on the tomato plant. Maybe my Parisian carrots will grow now…and my indoor radishes. I plan to transplant the two tomato plants that cost ONE DOLLAR per seed into tabletop hydro growers. They`re the only survivors.
I’m planting more lettuce. I just can’t seem to keep enough growing! I’m also planting some celery I rooted from scraps.
I had success with Watercress seeds sprinkled over expanded clay pebbles in a 3 inch net cup in a Folgers Instant container filled with nutrient solution under a 10w light. Four of these fit under one bulb. They don`t have Watercress in stores here in rural Louisiana so I had never tried it. It`s a new MUST GROW now for me. I`ve transplanted cuttings to keep it going. It`s a super food.
My last frost date is April 17😭
Can’t really get started until Mid February. That’s when I’ll start my peppers and tomatoes. I’m really starting to get concerned because the past few years, we’ve barely had sunny days in May and June.
Starting brassicas this week. I may try a pepper or two. Trying not to overwhelm myself.
Just want to support CaliKim's seeds – I've been purchasing her seeds for a few years, and have had GREAT success, even w/o the tips! I only grow a few veggies (tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon & peppers), but I LOVE her flower seeds!! She always has specials, and very good germination %. Best to everyone's green thumb😂❤!!
A little overzealous with tomatoes.. growing 3 micro varieties and 12 determinate/ indeterminate types! No clue where they will go if they all germinate 😂
