Happy new year so it is that time of year I begin to dream up what next year’s space is going to look like sometimes my my expectations are just slightly just a little over the top however um what fun would it be if we did not drink big so just imagine months

From now this space will be completely filled and Lush with yummy delicious vegetables and egg first we got a whole lot of planning to do child so let’s go Inside so all of my garden plans begin first of all with a vision of what do I want this Garden to give this year last year I had Grand dreams of having Lush flowers everywhere the trellist was crawling darling and sadly some of that was true not sadly but luckily some of

That was true however sadly the the arch wasn’t arching the the Trellis was not crawling like it needed to so this year we are moving forward with um knowledge and a vision rather than just a vision and a a dream um so with that let’s go

On ahead and talk about what I am doing currently to prepare for this upcoming gardening season so the first thing that I always like to do before I even pick out a variety before I do anything I always keep note of all the technical things so if you

Are newbie to gardening you always need to know two dates two very specific dates your final frost date and your your first frost date I don’t know why that was hard to get out but anyways if you guys are new here I welcome you my

Name is Ashley and I welcome you to my channel I like to post things gardening related and planner related and every now and then I’ll just sprinkle in some Rando things that I just truly enjoy I’m also an avid cooker for my family so I love to share kitchen Vlogs as well so

Hopefully you join me going ahead and hit that subscribe button all right so back to the planning so I am a planner girl as I just mentioned um I like to keep a happy planner this is not only like a week to week planner but it is

Also note taking from previous years any Doodles that I want to make of like my vision for the garden all of that stuff lives in this ha planner I do have a dedicated video if you guys want to see it in more detail I’ll make sure that I

Link that there all right so again first things that you want to keep note of are that final frost date and that first frost date and you can actually look that information up by either Googling your zip code and you can say your first and final Frost that’s way to do it but

A very reputable source is the Old Farmers Almanac and I believe it’s just the almanac or almanac.com there’s a couple out there but make sure it’s the old Farmers Almanac specifically that’s where you can put in your zip code and it will generate your first Frost or your final Frost your

First Frost and then how many growing days you have so for me my final Frost is April 24th which is is roughly when it typically is like the gardeners in my area like to say Do not Garden before Mother’s Day I always break that rule

But you just have to know what you know so anything that is a little bit more hearty in a frost then I don’t mind going ahead and uh planning it out so that’s just rule of thumb use your mind but use these dates as well especially

For things that are more Frost tender so final Frost is April 21st my first Frost is October 22nd and then from there I just generate uh my 12 week starts 10 8 6 4 and then I also put in a date for all of like my fall brasas that I may

Want to start and again I keep all of this information in my planner you can see how I have everything written out here and I will eventually cutor color code color code like those three main things and just have that there for reference um and then from there that’s when we

Begin to actually speak about varieties and seeds and Seed shopping and all of that good stuff so I ain’t even going to lie to you guys I have way more seeds than I can ever grow and thankfully last year I did a colle collaboration for the first time with survival garden seeds

They sent me out a beautiful package filled with tons and tons of seeds if you guys are more interested in them specifically then I will make sure that I link all the information down below you can actually purchase entire SE kits and they have different levels so for

The firsttime gardener for uh Avid home Gardener and then I’m using all the wrong terms by the way and then for a farmer so they have three tiers of different types of kits that you can get in addition to other types of kits that you can get readymade so if you’re

Somebody who’s just starting off maybe you don’t know what varieties you want to grow just yet but you want to get a good starting point a kit like that is absolutely perfect and then two what is even better which is why they are called survival garden seeds the pack that all

Of your seeds come in you can actually use that as a storage space for for all of your seeds say in the case that you want to keep a vault pushed to the side you have all of those seeds already protected and ready for you to save in

Case of an emergency so again I’ll leave all that information down below however if you are somebody who is already into gardening and you want to curate um what you want your garden to look like you want very specific beautiful varieties then I am going to

First of all um suggest again having a vision and knowing how many of each plant that you need to grow in your own spacing because I ain’t even going to lie this is how I built my my seed collection is by Going Bonkers in the cataloges and online sites and buying up

A bunch of seeds that I really don’t need so get what you need because seeds while they don’t go bad immediately um they do get less and less strong or viable as the years go by so here is my seed collection like I said I have been Gathering seeds for many years

Now so I have more than I can ever grow and so what I typically do is go through shop my stash anything that I need to repurchase I actually I typically do all of my repurchasing in the fall because first first of all you get some good deals and then

Secondly um most things are in stock because right now is when everybody is like oo I got to get my stuff together but I just go on ahead and purchase it at the end of the season that way I know exactly what I need to refill on maybe

Some things that I want to try out if they already have new varieties out or whatever I like watching gardening videos so usually when I see another Gardener growing something I kind of keep mental note or I just went ahead and fill up my cart but anyways um so I

Like to keep all of my seeds in a tight storage space this is probably something that you have seen before but if you haven’t I purchased this from Michaels and it is a photo box organizer so each one of these they are perfectly sized to

Fit in all of your seed packets and you can see here where I just labeled them right on the top so as I’m looking through I know exactly what I’m grabbing and like I said I shot my stash first do any shopping through cataloges online um

If you guys are interested in a list of cataloges to uh requests here are a couple that I’ve received so far Southern Exposure seed exchange and then of course Baker Creek um but Botanical interest they put out a catalog I’ll just go on ahead and Link the

The video where I listed out all of the cataloges to request so once I have once I have all of the seeds collected that I know for a fact that I want to grow I then go through and divide them by which week I need to need to begin I then go

And divide them by which week I need to begin them and then anything that I need to direct so I’ll just have that gathered together in a separate space what’s what up and play seeds you you can’t play with the seeds can you hold on okay can you in this container I keep

A few things first of all I’m using the same photo boxes and I have them labeled in the same manner that I have them labeled by by Variety in the seed storage I have them labeled in here by week hello so I have gone on ahead and shopped my stash and have everything

Separated out already but in addition oh girl H you want to sit on my lap okay come over here so in addition to those seed boxes like I said I also just have bundles of pack seed packets that maybe I need to direct sew or I know for a fact that

I’ll be starting soon but I keep some basic tools I keep a Sharpie nearby some scissors you never know when you need a scissor and then I love these little seed starting scoop things they you typically come they typically come in like little seed starting

Tray what is that and then I also keep some little baggies in case I have some stray seeds and I don’t want to waste maybe I’ll just give them away type thing um more seeds some labels of course and then I have some of those like little natat traps in here as

Well and I just keep this wherever I’m starting all of my seeds that way when it’s time to start them up I can just grab this box and know that I have everything here and speaking of my area that I typically start my seeds in so it is currently under construction we are

Getting our basement finished right right now therefore my area that I normally start my seeds in is occupied and so that means that I will be working with very limited space um so this year will be interesting so if you two are working out of limited space or you have very

Few resources to get things going definitely follow along because I am going to have to get creative child so and that takes me to my next point so um obviously we got our seeds but of course I have to make sure that I have all of my supplies ready and prepared as well

And for that I have not picked up everything that I need just yet but of course you need your seed starting trays whatever vessel you are starting those in whether it’s Solo cups or like those cell trays either or is perfectly fine perfectly great excuse me excuse me so obvously need something to

Actually start your seeds in like a vessel little uh containers like food prep containers are great as well if you have a mass seed sewing that you need to start and then of course you will need a seed starting medium um I went on ahead

And I picked these up again I don’t know that I’ll end up using these for everything but these are the compressed seed starter mixes from the Dollar Tree this is 100% Coco core I want to give it another try because recently I seen on oh Faith Family Homestead Dom over

There recently shared using these and mixed in some compost as well as some it wasn’t vermiculite perlite um so I do want to try that I want to give this a go again but maybe just not straight up you know what I mean so I picked up some

More of these and again these are from the Dollar Tree so $125 good price point if you just want to grab a little something and these are 2 quarts worth so a decent amount you know for 250 mommy mommy oh yes so once I have everything gathered and all of that good

Stuff now it’s just time to get into actually sewing our seeds so today we have nothing to sew but we will in about 2 weeks time so if you want to continue to follow the Journey of this year’s seed starting Ventures and gardening Garden planning oh words child um

Definitely make sure that you stick around on my channel um there will be lots and lots more as everything gets going and yeah so I thank you all so much for stopping by I hope that you all had a beautiful holiday and a Happy New Year

And until the next time I wish you health wealth and prosperity peace
