I’ve been watching this and the r/jarrarium subs for a while now and decided to give it a shot. I stumbled on them while researching aquascaping (getting back into that hobby soon) online and saw that these can be decent food sources for fish once established. Also I think they’re super interesting
So, that being said I’ve seen some conflicting things. One being whether or not to seal the jar. The first guy I found doing this doesn’t seal his containers except maybe with cloth and rubber bands. The other thing I’m uncertain about is soil usage. I’ve seen 25% soil suggested and I’ve read to not use any
It’s been almost 48 hours since I found my source and set everything up and I’m concerned about the water clarity. This was the reason the person said to not use any soil btw. I’m sure many of you have tons of info for me so please fire away. I definitely have a couple worms cruising around in there

I’ve heard it said a lot that you should avoid getting too much decaying plant matter in your ecospheres, and the resulting ammonia will kill a lot of your life
I’m no expert (check out u/BitchBass….she IS!) but I think getting some live plants in there will be crucial for helping keep things alive and thriving
