Kaye Kittrell: Pelican Feeding Frenzy

Recently, there has been a seabird feeding frenzy at Will Rogers Beach in Pacific Palisades, California. This morning, there was a huge number of pelicans diving on a school of fish as I was driving by. It would have been amazing to have a camera under the water and see the action. I assume they are California Brown Pelicans, because there is a marine sanctuary in the Channel Islands, but there was a variety in size and coloring, from white breast and brown head, to all brown to white head and neck. Bird watchers, help me out. Ten minutes after this clip, most of the birds were 300′ down the beach on the sand preening. They did not seem to be fazed by the beach joggers, photographers (we kept our distance), even a police helicopter flying overhead, and onlookers from the parking lot. Nature is amazing. We are all connected. Please share.
