  1. When I lived in the Shenandoah Valley back a few decades ago, I had a Fisher stove but that was not my choice. I researched wood stoves and had picked out a Buck stove but alias, the choice wasn't mine. You are very fortunate to have a Buck 91 and I wish you many warm cozy days, nights and snowy days enjoying the heat from you stove.

  2. We have a lopi insert and I absolutely love it. I even do some cooking on top and dehydrating on the side of it. πŸ”₯ happy holidays πŸŽ„

  3. For quite a few years I lived in a house with a free standing Schrader wood stove. It heated the whole house. And I loved cooking a big pot of beans when the winds knocked out the power. The entire south facing ( and a smidgen of west facing) of the house was big picture windows, so when the sun was shining, we didn't need to use the stove. We were about a quarter of a mile from the ocean. ( in Oregon) and sat high up on a hill, so literally on a clear day you could see forever.

  4. I used to have a free standing wood stove with a blower. Did not use the blower because it was too noisy. Instead I used a box fan about 10 feet away turned down to low. It moved the air really well and it was almost silent. I also kept a kettle of water on top at all times. The fan was pointed at the stove.

  5. Did you replace the one in previous videos? I’d love to have one! My ex-husband is remodeling an old house for our son. I was over a few weeks ago looking at the progress. They were given an old stove and plan to install it. I’m hoping it’s safe for him because our son is autistic. He can live alone but he needs support.

  6. Beautiful stove. I have a free standing in my cabin. At my house I do have a whole house generator. That was an investment but peace of mind when power out. Still have well working for water and heat in the house. I would love to have a cistern. My grandparents ts had one down in their basement. You have a fantastic set up.

  7. Kaye, count your blessings with the cistern. As long as it doesn't leak you have water you can run through your Burkee. I absolutely HATE the set screw's on the handles on these stoves!!! Luckily I have a wood stove that the handle is stored on the side of the stove and it is universal. The handle is for the front of the stove because I have a front load or top load wood burner. Well, when my damper set screw failed I was able to use that same handle to open or close my damper. Just like everything else…OLD is GOLD. They don't make things like they used to. There is no reason they couldn't make handles one solid piece. ALWAYS have a kettle of water on your stove to put moisture in the air. I gather sticks in my woods for kindling. Works like a charm. I had to laugh when you called your damper a "choke." I'm sure there will be a time that we use dry leaves and lint and sticks to start our fires due to no newspapers anymore.

  8. Nothing like a wood stove on a wintry night with a hot cup of tea. Keeping the stove pipe clean is very important if you don't have it cleaned once a year by the chimney sweep and there are lots of ways to DIY if needed. Great video and wishing you a wonderful holiday season..

  9. I only have a Lacunza wood cook stove and it sits in my small living room on a stone hearth. It has a small firebox but I do believe if it were any larger we would roast! I don't think there is anything so relaxing or hygge inspiring than a wood fire. That Buck stove sure is a nice one, Kaye, and love that it has a built in fan! Last winter we had yet to have the Lacunza installed and when it dipped down to -35 our heat pump could not keep the temp in our home any higher than 67. At times it would dip down lower than 67 so we are hoping with the wood cook stove it will help with the occasional Polar Vortex.
Merry Christmas, Kaye! Thank you for such an inspiring year of gardening videos.

  10. It's so nice. My daughter talked about getting a wood stove awhile back but not a priority for them. This old farm house gets so cold in winter. They've done a few things to insulate it. Maybe one day, who knows??? Thanks for all the information. Merry blessed Christmas. Keep up the hard work but rest also. Blessings.

  11. When I start the fire my husband always tell me to tie my hair. When I saw you making the fire πŸ”₯ I know why he's so worried and in exactly that minute you had the the warning written on the video. Take care and enjoy the heat. Merry Christmas πŸŽ…πŸΌπŸŽ„πŸ€ΆπŸΌ and Happy New Year πŸŽ† to all of you β›„οΈβ„οΈβ˜ƒοΈ

  12. We used to have an insert wood burner when we lived up north. It heated our whole house! Loved it! Merry Christmas!πŸ™πŸ»β€πŸ˜˜βœ¨

  13. Neat to see your story ..So different from my own. I have been watching a u-tube video about a guy called Martin in the Italian alps restoring a couple of stone barns to create his homestead .He built this stone stove with a kit.. facinating..KC always wanted to build one .He starts fires similar to the way you do it . Our wood cook stove (Pioneer Maid)bought in Kentucky in 08 designed and made originally by the Amish in Canada and now sold by the Amish in PA .Our model is no longer available and is plumbed to be able to heat the whole house using hot water (Not reliant on electric ). It is also very heavy .KC tore down the original crumbling chimney, poured a pad and fixed the timbers and foundation to carry the load. This part of the house was off grid and dated to the mid 1800's.. The fire never goes out till spring . I did have to replace the fire brick after 12 years .I burn about 2 cords/winter and keep 2 – 5 gallon pots of water on it to help the humidity . I usually have a big pot of soup going all winter . I have gas hot water heater and a gas cook stove too ..neither depend on power. There is a water jacket that also holds 20 gallons of hot water. This stove is fine to heat this end of the house and if it gets real cold, I can fire up an old Warm Morning Antique stove in my bedroom I am not sure what will happen when I get to old to tend to this place

  14. Kaye, how about a workout video to show us how you stay fit during the winter so you are strong and ready to hit it again in the Spring?
