Changes Coming in the Vegetable Flower Bird Garden, How to Attract Birds Safe to Feeder & Birdbath
#robbieandgarygardeningeasy

Now is this not a beautiful morning so let’s do an update so what’s been really going on oh I still see a dragon fruit back there the weather here has been cloudy as you can see we did have some rain yesterday we’re supposed to have some more rain today so we’ll check that

Out and see if that really comes about because it hasn’t really rained anymore but it’s very wet isn’t this a beautiful view here and then this is coming from my bird Garden which needs cleaning I’ve got to empty out the trough here with the tomato plants we just had thousands

Of birds here I stepped out so they all kind of took off into the trees they’re really full so the trough right here is going to be empty and I’ll I’ll start new and here’s my goal I’m going to move it I want a path and I want to be able

To get through here I’m going to keep this plant here because this hummingbird’s lunch it’s a cutting I put there there has been attracting hummingbirds constantly so I’m going to leave that right there I like it being by the screen door where I can sit and

Watch so that’s going to stay but this is going to be moved so I can allow the dragon fruit to go along the back I’m going to put it up on the rebar that Gary put there and the trough will go somewhere else I’m not sure let me step

Out for a minute I’m not sure yet where I have time right now we’re in the holiday season so I don’t have to think about that so the trough will be moved that was like those things cost about $100 so I definitely want to keep it

Gary’s got some we have one more I think we’re not using probably the other side of the yard here because I’m going to move the bird cage down there and get the birds more concentrated see the bird cage down there it’s actually a dog crate that is

Where birds feed and it protects them from Hawks but I’m going to move it in this area maybe I’ll move that in here and I’ve got another setup I want to do here so take the trough and move it to the other side of the burger garden and

Then have the birds all concentrated in here to come in here eat and take a bath and then you know about my zigzag of branches all over you may not like the looks of it but let me tell you something that keeps the Hawks out they

Can’t get in let’s put it this way you’re not going to stop them from coming around and looking but they can’t do the maneuver that they need to do to grab a bird so they may try but by the time they try the birds see them and they’re all long

Gone and I’m actually debating if I’m going to make a water feature on the other side of my ball Fountain I can walk over there I’ve been thinking about that I’ll bring in more dragonflies aren’t these beautiful they’ll have to be repotted and moved later Gary got some of these

For $5 at Home Depot clearing out these beautiful plants aren’t they gorgeous they’re emu bushes and these are kind of a red orange we’ve also got the pink on the other side and the yellow now I was talking about putting a an arbor here and putting a plant in

There but I’m almost thinking I’m making a water feature in this that would be really cool deep enough for dragon flies to come in here and lay their eggs now it won’t be set up for frogs or Lizards unless I make a ramp I don’t have a ton of lizards in here they

More tend to stay by the block walls they like to be warm so I’m not sure if I’m going to do anything for lizards but dragonflies yes and set up for birds to come in and take a bath if I make it too big now here’s going to be the downfall

And this is why I really have to think about it if it’s too deep or too big and this is very open here it will bring in Hawks to come take a bath because they like a bunch of water and they like to dive in oh they swim I go to my

Neighbor’s swimming pool so that’s something I’m going to have to really think about before I do it but I can also take my irrigation tubing see how I’m placing it there and I could string it up along the top and that will stop them they don’t want to go through the

Irrigation tubing so we’ll have to think about that for the new year that I’ll leave I’ve got tomatoes growing in there and all kinds of brasas that came up I’ve got potatoes so that’s kind of the update here and then a lot of the tree collards that I planted there are

Starting to take off and then whatever doesn’t take off on that side I will replant more but they’re still hanging on there a couple of them really did really good so that’s what’s going on here here so many times I’m going to reset up this dog Hennel these are dog kennels by

The way and if you’re new here then you what you probably don’t know is years ago one of the big pet stores cleared out their The Grooming area where they groom dogs and they took them all out my daughter was working at a pet shop at

The time and she called me oh look at the birds I think they’re seagulls look how many oh oh wow they are seagulls what a treat to see you rarely see them fly over here look at that cut cuz of the weather so she called me and

Said you better get down there right now they just cleared out the grooming they’re setting up all new Dog Kennels and they threw them by the dumpster so of course Gary went down there and took a couple loads and he brought them all home and we’re not

Using them for dog kennels but we were using them to grow in so that’s where these came from and they’ve been set up here for about seven eight years now they were never set up right and I would have to tip them because we threw rocks

In there and our native soil this was before we were gardening and so they weren’t done right but I do still growing them of course on the top so anyways going back to that that’s why they’re all different sizes that’s what these are and they’re a fiberglass and

They’re really good and they’ve got holes of course all over this one I like because I can set up different features here bird bath that I’m testing to see which ones I like and I can put other plants in there I see some of the plants got chewed probably by the birds are

Eating the greens so I’m going to go ahead and leave that one right now this is my concern it’s not really a big concern is do I want to go with plants this spring or do I want to make a water feature and I don’t want to attract

Hawks oh my gosh they’re kind of like in a formation is that not beautiful there’s hundreds of them I mean this is another wave coming through see how they’re coming through is that beautiful there’s something about the atmosphere right now they could just Glide look at that they’re not even beating their

Wings they’re just gliding through and they’re heading I don’t know where they’re heading the beach would be that way I think so they’re coming from the beach obviously oh I wonder if there’s a storm coming it and then they’re going that way they could be going to the

Beach they could circle around the way they’re flying so that’s what I’m thinking about here but this has just been phenomenal this Garden you may think it doesn’t look like much but we’ve got all kinds of flowers that the hummingbirds and all the pollinators love so that brought in

The hummingbirds here and then of course all the other birds got a whole video I’m fascinated with them coming in cuz I never see the seagulls I’ve got a video on all the species we’ve brought in here which has been unreal there’s been about now 60 species of small birds that’s not

Counting the Hawks we have here the red tailed the red shouldered the uh cooper hawks sharp shins we’ve got so many hawks we even have the golden eagle fly through here periodically we’re not talking about them I’m we’re not even talking about the turkey vulture we’re talking strictly about small beautiful

Birds that come in here from all over and they found this area this has been a Haven for them and they feed and drink all day and they hide in the trees here so that’s kind of what I’m doing I’ve been sitting out here analyzing what I

Want to do I’m going to leave these because they’re so established let me tell you a secret on this I’ve got Sage here I’ve got Salvia I’ve got um emu Bush This is the yellow flower I think they have a few flowers coming on there kind of a yellowy green flower and of

Course the hummingbird lunch and they’re all get this still in in the original pots that I bought them in but there’s big holes in them so a little hole’s been dug just maybe a 1-in hole sat on the ground and they have set their Roots into the ground so I haven’t

Even done anything so I could easily lift them and move them if I want but they’re so established with their Roots I’m going to leave it right now and then back here I’ve got my papaya that I planted that’s taking off I hope that makes it through the winter and then

I’ve got rose bushes that I propagated in here and all this attracts the birds I’ve even got other flowers growing through here still in their original pots that too I should move that one figure out what I want to do so this is what I’m been doing is sitting back here

And analyzing cuz I’m not going to do a lot in the winter maybe on warmer days I’ll come out here and then I’ve got the Indian blanket flower that came up on its very own is that not beautiful I am waiting to collect some seed heads once

They dry you don’t want to take them off the plant right now because if you do that the seeds have them formed see this it goes from this well here it starts that way and then it turns into a flower they open up then when the petals drop you end up

With these balls now it is still being fed off the mother plant so if I pull that off now I have no seeds here’s another flower forming so I’ve got to leave it on the plant so it gets full nutrition and the seeds get nice and big

Inside and and when the stem turns brown that is the time to clip it off and put it somewhere until I’m ready to plant the seeds now yes the birds could eat it but you know you can always at this point if I really wanted to because

The pollinating is over I could put look at this more these are more coming through see where they’re going they’re going across the canyon isn’t that beautiful now I could always cover it with some tulle and then not let the birds eat it because the seeds haven’t

Formed yet so they’re not going to come in and eat it yet I’m not that worried about it I’ll be able to get it before they get them all and then this is the trough I want to get rid of so that’s basically it I’m just trying to figure

Out how I want to set this up I’m leaving the dragon fruit we get hundreds of dragon fruit and we eat dragon fruit like every night and we still have a couple more left back there and then that will be it until summer so I just kind of wanted to walk you through

What’s going on you could take a very small section anywhere and all you you need to do is put food water if you’re attracting hummingbirds well right now if you don’t have hummingbirds you wouldn’t do it now but if you do you put a hummingbird feeder and then you put

Some flowers that they like cuz they’re going to see the flowers probably first in your garden and then once they come down they’ll find the feeder and then on top of that you can put bowls of seed like we put out different seed for the birds and that will bring in the seed

Eaters and once you have them and you’ve got plants the next thing you’re going toing bring in are the insect eaters that are absolutely beautiful those are your song birds your fly catchers they come in because they see all the seed eaters eating and they know it’s safe

And you could do it like look how small this little area is you could do that anywhere you could do it on a balcony you could do it on deck in a small part of your garden you can zigzag the top to keep the Hawks out and if you’ve got

Cats then go ahead and set up maybe all your feeders up high because a cat’s not going to be able to spray spring up there try to keep the seed off the ground so the birds won’t go on the ground and there’s many ways you can feed birds by keeping cats away if

You’ve got cats but start with feeders up above the ground and go with that and then see you know how it will work for you but you can do it in a small area and I started here and now yes I have been deciding to expand it to there and

Expand it a little bit over that way but not all the way I’m actually going to change that feeder and bring bring it closer this way cuz that feet are way down there I want to be able to step out and see old birds in one spot and have

My plants growing down there but all this maybe from here on with birds and then I can control the birds and control what’s going on as far as Hawks cats and just easier to step out go through all the feeders add in my food and then step

Back in I don’t have to walk back and forth am I being lazy no I’m trying to concentrate them for me for photographs cuz I love photography and artwork and I want to have the birds closer where I sit see where I can sit in the sliding

Glass door or I can there’s a bird there right now or I can sit on the chairs here and just sit and enjoy the birds in one area so if they come down there then I can’t get them over there unless I’m sitting there so this way I keep them

Where I have ey shot of them in a split second to get those photos I want so with that have a wonderful day you got to enjoy the look at that the seagulls are all gone they’re taken off wherever they were going you had to enjoy that

With me and that was just beautiful so have a wonderful day and I just can’t believe how beautiful Canyon looks today bye-bye don’t forget to eat what you grow if I didn’t say it I always say that I do forget once in a while not to

Eat yes I do that’s why oh no they’re back look at that so they’re circling around coming from somewhere this might be another group they’re all heading somewhere they’re heading down there wouldn’t you head down there that is absolutely beautiful

  1. So cool with all of the birds. I love sitting on my porch and watch them all. I need to start going through seeds and planning what to grow.

  2. Dragonflies lay an egg in a 2 gal bowl of water with sandy base & leafy plant for a mini ecosystem I placed by a bush, & provides water for bees, I make sure to add to rocks for them to land on🌱🌱🌱🌱

  3. You should paint some of those dog kennels. It would look so cool. Wish I had some to put some buckets in. It would make it so much easier.

  4. What an amazing sight !!! What a treat to see so many flowers & lush greenery ! Zoe was enjoying the garden , too . We are in the 20's @ night here , but we finally got some rain , after pretty much being in a drought all Summer . I would love to find a Hummingbird Lunch plant ~ yours are gorgeous ! I am sure they would be a tender annual here in central Virginia . Thanks , Robbie for sharing your oasis with us ! 🥰 Wishing you , Gary & all your Fur Babies a wonderfully blessed Christmas !!! 🎄♥

  5. Your bird garden looks absolutely beautiful, and the sticks going over it gives it more character! I have 2 locations where with a total of 6 feeder stations where I feed the birds, in front of the house, and in the back of the house. I can see the ones in front from my porch and from my recliner. I can see the feeders around back while cooking and when doing crafts or puzzles on my kitchen table. The birds feed around front, then they go to the back, and I just follow them lol.
I can't wait to see what you do to your bird garden. I would go with the water feature to bring in the dragon flies because they eat insects. We have a lot of dragon flies in the summer. I love watching them in the mornings when they are catching small insects. ❤😊😊❤

  6. Robbie your yard is a sanctuary for the birds. They look happy & safe there. What a wonderful life for them. Clever idea to keep the birds safe from the hawks .

  7. Amazing seagulls! Re the big steel planter, have you considered making a frame with wheels like the size of wheels you find on a hand truck? That would make those planters easier to relocate again and again as your sanctuary evolves?
Great plan for the birdie sanctuary 👍🏻♥️

  8. According to the radar, there's a big storm heading your way from the Pacific. The sea gulls are probably escaping from that, or they're getting blown onto land.

  9. The Hummingbirds Lunch is really easy to propagate through cuttings. I live in Ohio, planted the cuttings in seed tray cells, placed them inside under grow lights and their thriving. This will save me money come Summer. Love your content and thank you.

  10. Robby I love the way you have hawk protected bird garden. I have been able to propagate the hummingbird lunch bird lunch and I'm trying to decide where to plant it and if i should use your method of leaving them in the pot with bottoms open in the ground. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. I look forward to new videos in the new year.

  11. The bird garden is hands down my favorite space. It’s so inspiring to listen to your plans for the next phase. It gets me thinking about what’s next for my own space. Merry Christmas 🎄and happy holidays to you and yours!
