Molbak’s closing after 67 years in Woodinville

Molbak’s Garden + Home announced Monday it would close after it could not come to an agreement with its landlord to stay in the building.

“We know this is incredibly difficult news for our company, our employees and their families, our loyal customers and vendors, and many other friends of Molbak’s,” CEO Julie Kouhia said in a statement. “The Gardens District was our plan for the future of Molbak’s and our opportunity to remain in Woodinville for many years to come. To not be able to do that is devastating.”

Molbak’s, a Woodinville staple for 67 years, had been negotiating with Green Partners, LLC after the developer decided in November to pause plans for the Gardens District construction project.

Jessica for 67 years. More banks has been a staple in this community, providing flowers, plants and memories to customers throughout the decades. But all of that is going away early next year. I can ring up here if you’d like. And would you like the receipt in the back? It’s honestly heartbreaking

Because it’s a special place, a special place that has customers hoping for a Christmas miracle. Bye bye. Take care. Maybe Santa will come save M backs. You know, I mean this is the holiday time of year. So to have news like that right now is just, you know, it’s not acceptable backs.

Leadership said they wanted to stay open, but they can’t figure out a way to do it. We turned over every stone. We have looked at this every way that we can and there is not a financially viable path for M back to go forward. Julie co

The CEO of the long time business says M has been working with its landlords, green partners since 2008 to develop the garden district, a 19 acre development in the city that planned on M backs being the centerpiece. But in November plans to have more backs in

The project were terminated by Green partners baffled. I still do not know the real solid reason for why we are not being considered part of the project as we move forward, resulting in more than 70 people without a job next year and sending hundreds of vendors and thousands

Of customers to take their business elsewhere. My first reaction was I’m sick to my stomach. That’s Mike Millman, the mayor of Woodville in disbelief by the announcement that will have a significant economic impact on the city. We have people coming from far and wide to come just to m

Backs. And so it’s a big piece of what we’re doing here. So losing, that is a blow. And again, Mobe is closing early next year. The CEO didn’t give me a month or specific date, but she did say they hope to have a plan in place by early January back to you, Brady.

Do you know if there are any plans at all for the store to just go to a different location? Yeah, Jessica, a lot of people asking me that question. I asked the CEO and they say at this point, there’s no plans of relocating just because it takes so

Long to find a garden center location like this. It takes years. So at this point, the staff and the CEO just want to focus on making sure they close with integrity back to you. Ok, Brady Wakayama. Reporting live for us from Woodville tonight. Brady. Thanks.

  1. molbak's got screwed out of their property. they sold their land to developers with the idea they'd be included in future developments, and surprise, they were cut out of them entirely. dumb decision and now they're paying for it. horrendous.

  2. There has to be one empty big box store in decent condition they could move into at little cost even for a couple years.

  3. The problem with big national and global capitalism, it has no memory and couldn’t care less. If the European governments didn’t have protections, the coliseum would be bulldozed if it had a private real estate investment bank owner who found more money in subdividing.

  4. That's developers for you, it's all about the money and to heck with the comunity . Just look at new cheaply built huge apt prison boxes.

  5. Great. Even more space for more construction to take place there; because Woodinville needs even more apartments 🙄

  6. Mike Millman acting like he didn't know for months about the redevelopment secretly intending to exclude Molbaks. HIS OFFICE GETS KICKBACKS from developers so he just turns a blind eye on screwing over the general public. THEY WANT THE LAND TO BUILD MORE OVERPRICED APARTMENTS…….ALL THEY EVER WANT IS MORE APARTMENTS…..MIKE MILLMAN'S OFFICE WAS WELL AWARE AND HAS ALREADY SIGNED OFF ON THE APARTMENTS COMING IN LONG BEFORE BETRAYING MOLBAK'S……

  7. Can't trust a developer to have the communities best interests at heart, all they care about is maximizing profit.

  8. The whole town is turning into overpriced apartment housing mixed with section 8 welfare aparment housing like redmond and Bellevue. Prepare for crime rates and homelessness to skyrocket in the area. We need to outlaw these leasing requirements of making 2-3 times the monthly rent when the average wage is well below that for the average apartment . The quality of life in this area is just plummeting every year while developers and politicians make off like bandits.

  9. Good this place was so oOoOO expensive, i lived in the area for 37 years and couldn't afford anything and i make over 100k a year !
