  1. From a weekend gardener: you don't need to put canvases over the garden. It's useless work for you.You can leave the residue after removing the biggest one. The remains will enrich the compost. Your soil will be richer. You can add manure to your gardens and voilà! Nature takes its course. In the spring you can clean it, mix the soil and you will be ready. Strawberries are very, very invasive. We don't plant any anymore. The roots even spread outside the garden! You have to remove everything, otherwise they will come back. Good success. From Canada 🙂 Your images at the beginning of all your videos are always beautiful. 🙂

  2. I just love watching your videos & seems like your doing 2 a week now which is great. It’s like a special treat for me to watch them, makes me happy and motivated. Love your Christmas tree in your beautiful renovated room. Pickle is adorable and a very handsome kitty. Excited to see the renovation. Garden looks great. I’m thinking maybe I should try to do some of that? Just love the scenery and music and you both are wonderful.

  3. The party hat is a candle snuffer, its unusual, as they normally have a 6-12 inch long handle. Happy Christmas🎄🎄🎄

  4. Oh no! Cliffhanger! lol love watching you guys from Illinois. Rome wasn’t built in a day as my dad always said. Love your screw it attitude when something doesn’t go as planned and just move on to something else! There’s always something else not to mention your girls 🥰

  5. A self-admitted binge watcher here from Canada 👋🏽 Hi Amanda and Lincoln! I’ve really enjoyed watching your videos for a few reasons, the pace of your work (you are getting stuff done), design style and you’re realistic. Everything looks like it’s coming along nicely and I hope you get to enjoy some rest during the holidays. Btw this episode reminded me of Escape to The Chateaux episode when they were converting their outbuilding into a cottage, it too backed the walled garden, so they knocked out a space for a window and a door – so the residents of the cottage could enjoy the view of the garden and have a patio area. Have you considered something like? More work I know, but how fab to have more sunlight into the cottage and that view 😉

  6. I wish I had nettles in my poor veggie beds – as they are indicator plants showing us humans that there is excellent soil (which I don’t on my windy coastal Irish property). And yes, I also have quite a few of those very avocado plants in my compost heap!

  7. You two crack me up with you dry sarcasm and Lincolns laid back style of working on the many problems along the way. Keep it up, I love the content.

  8. Ok, so this is a couple of videos later, but I am compelled to compliment you on your holiday decorating. Very tasteful. Without mentioning which ones, some of the other chateaulains on YouTube have dragged their tacky decorations with them from somewhere else and it just doesn't work.
Also, you mention what time the sun goes down, which is about the same as in the USA- but folks might not realize how LATE the sun comes UP! Short days, for sure.

  9. I do not think I have the temperament for destruction/ reconstruction & redesigning that you two do. You are obviously far more patient than I am. I do not like the process of renovating due to the inevitable unpredictable stress inducing problems that arise. The delays in supply chains, & getting appliances & supplies in a timely fashion cause the project to take twice as long and cost twice to three times as much as expected. In the meantime dust seems to infiltrate the air ducts spreading it throughout the whole house . Perhaps being 74 is a factor in not wanting to live through renovating our 55 yr old kitchen . However it is only 14 yrs ago since I had two bathrooms gutted and renovated and I coped O.K. with that big mess. Anyway I’m amazed how you two remain even tempered with all you do! 👍👍🎄⛄️🌲 🎉Joyeux Nöel et Bonne Année from Montréal Québec Canada

  10. Sorry…just don't understand why he has to tear stuff up before " FIXING something else"??????? Didn't look like the ceiling in the cottage needed anything other than maybe a sweep & cleaning with soap & water B4 you could "temp" use it as a Cooking place while the Kitchen in the main house was being fixed. It had been up for years & still standing! Now, well, Good luck with the New kitchen in the main house…..Just don't understand the logic???

  11. LOVE the xmas tree!!!! So Beautiful!!!! Glad that the animals have decided to leave it alone. Love your designs. Very current w& classy with a little whimsy thrown in!!! Very Nice!!! Hoping you all have a Wonderful Holiday Season!!! Really love your video's!!!!

  12. Thx for the new video…. Love the binge to avoid sleep…. The property is beautiful.. btw – I’m on my husbands iPad ..so just an inform it’s not him posting or impersonating ❤

  13. I hope you are taking the time to relax sometime during all your busy days? One thing I noticed in your cottage is that all your visitors were going to have to be able to get up stairs for the bedroom and bathroom, so I love planning where to put in a little lift. Imagine my disappointment when I saw the rear view of the cottage and realised the very strong slope of the roofline. Oh, my poor heart. Nevertheless, I did want to mention that it is possible to get a small Antique looking metal lift! I found them online. So if you do want to elevate (!) the cottage in this way, it is possible! Well, time to give the Egg Nog a practise run, so have fun, regards Susan at Hobart. 🎄😮

  14. So many great finds in this video! You definitely have an avocado tree growing in the compost! Thank you for continuing to share your chateau journey!

  15. Hey guys, great video. It's nice to see Lincoln doing well physically, and able to tear down ceilings. But I do wish that someone younger (sorry, Lincoln) could do those tasks instead. And leave the design & detailed DIY for him to focus on. Maybe a volunteer could help with the "grunt work" tasks. I'd come over and help myself, but it's an 8 hour flight and then a few hours drive. 😊

  16. Ha ha ha! Funny that you said "you should binge-watch our channel," because I just did! I am brand new here, just watched enough from the very beginning to get a feel for what's going on and my oh my! You are brave! and funny! and entertaining! and probably certifiably insane!!! Thank you for sharing your lives with us in YouTube Land. I truly hope that this beam situation will turn out for the better. Would love to see your daughters occasionally, although I imagine you don't show them for safety sake; maybe a quick shot here and there or blur their faces? Just want to get to know you better. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and hopefully 2024 will be kinder to you in the world of renovation. 🎄

  17. OMG!! That carriage is awesome. It would look great on display outside celebrating each season of the year.

  18. It looks like an avocado but it’s not as I’m sure you already knew lol but it does looks just like the invasive weed that grows in my area that gets nasty stickers

  19. I love watching your renovation and I enjoy your sense of humor,,however with all do respect why do you have to paint over all the original beautiful colors in grey? Why? It's so lifeless and ugly and industrial looking. Its a chateau in France not a jail cell. For example you painted over those beautiful natural wood guest beds a dark Grey like a sidewalk in new York city. Why? Please stop with the Grey everywhere it's gonna look like a moseleum. Anyways no offense I know its your chateau, just putting in my 2 cents. 😊

  20. We all have spaces that get filled with odds, and ends. Who wants to live in a showroom. Or a museum? Your restoration will take as long as it needs to take. We enjoy helping you by watching how things as going. Happy Christmas. From Mexico City.

  21. Amanda and Lincoln your videos of very relaxing. I watch in the morning with coffee and at night just laying in bed. It’s my stress free zone.
