Filling Our Firewood Supply | Staying One Step Ahead in Winter

We attempt to stay one step ahead of the cold season and replenish our firewood stash for next year. With wood heat being the primary source of heat for our cabin this is a very important task. Often times days spent outdoors in winter are not only productive but also enjoyable. Eric builds an insulated box that can be moved on skids for the generator.

  1. I was wondering if you could recommend some channels similar to yours. I enjoy the type of content you put out and want more of it. Ive already binged on all your content . Loveโค you guys. Your my favorite.

  2. Eric and Arielle- thanks for all you do, I really appreciate your channel! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your wonderful dogs! (And Pepper)

  3. Whenever I've had to run a generator in Texas is after a hurricane or summer storm, and the ambient temperatures have been well above 91. Never had any issues. So likely fine there.

  4. The one thing that scares me the most about Alaska.

    Is not:
    Grizzly bears
    Moose
    The weather
    Earthquake

    But is
The state bird of Alaska mosquitoes .

Hey, suppose a bug zapper would put a slight dent into them in your area or keeping bats . You are keeping bees right now have you ever considered keeping bats for mosquito control?

  5. I miss the old SLA. I still watch the content but the beginning was my favorite time, not a ton of fancy stuff and made it seem like anyone could do it.

  6. Have you thought about getting a heated bed for your cat to enjoy the window? I just bought one from Chewy for my cat and it'll be here Thursday I'm excited for my cat to try it out. I hope he likes it.

  7. Martha Stewart has nothing on you, in fact your meals tempt ,me more than anything fancy she does.

  8. First love your vidos just spent the last few monthe catching up via your playlist ( you have sadly missed a few videos on there). Now i have two questions. 1th what happend to the gigantic Geni you bought as a back up for the solar? 2nd how many chickens do you have?

  9. I love your videos and your photography style Iโ€™m always impressed what you do my dad heated with wood mostly oak and long time just him and mom

  10. Could you please tell me what is in your chicken feed, I know you make your own.
Your chickens always look so healthy and I want my chickens to look good too.
Thank you in advance for your help โค

  11. I just wanted to say i enjoy watching your videos and how much your husband looks like Micheal Ansara the actor

  12. Wonderful winter fun, you two! I'm loving that you're taking care of all the birds – I tend not to do stuff like that – usually I have plants that survive neglect becuase I don't always remember to water to a schedule – my cat survives just fine, tho ๐Ÿ™‚ It's fun seeing the projects moving along ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Footage is absolutely beautiful ๐Ÿ˜ป and the music matches it perfectly. What a life you both have. Wishing you both and fur babies a very Merry Christmas and @ Joyeaux Noel โค

  14. โค๐ŸฅถI have so many thoughts! First of all, yโ€™all should get an award for filmmaking! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅ‡Itโ€™s so beautiful! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซSecond, I canโ€™t believe itโ€™s going to get a lot colder there!๐Ÿ˜ฑAre yโ€™all having a hard time adjusting to that much cold weather? Your other home stead seemed a bit warmer. I just canโ€™t imagine being out in that kind of coldness! Arielโ€™s hair was even frozen at one point!๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซBut, yโ€™all always stay positive and get work done!๐Ÿ‘๐ŸผI love seeing how creative you two are! Lastly, I look so forward to seeing yโ€™all garden again! You cook with so many veggies! ๐Ÿ˜‹
    โคGod bless!๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

  15. Congratulations, you two. What a blessing to have all that meat. Nothing better than moose. The program to donate downed animals for meat is such a great program. Sorry for the moose but so glad the meat was not wasted.

  16. I had an old 76 Ford that I could put into 2w low . It was great for creeping around in the hills without burning 4w gas . Lugged all over the place .

  17. I'm sure somebody's probably already told you firewood is great, it warms you twice once while you're splitting it and once when you put it in the stove.

  18. And will you put a heavy rock on the lid to the generator…how will you keep the lid on in the storms that will come? And I LOVE the bird feeders!!!

  19. I have never been where the temp was lower than 14 degrees (that was temporary). I do know the body adjusts, but I cannot fathom working in 0 degree weather! Our winter temps can get in the twenties and teens, but itโ€™s usually at night and for a few nights at a time.
