Garden Harvest Storage Tips #harvest #vegetablegarden #storage

Do you store fruits and vegetables during the winter? It’s important to check on them periodically for signs of mold, rot, or spoiling. Grow varieties that store well and store them in a cool place.

Potatoes that have small sprouts are ok to eat if they are still firm. Remove the sprouts before eating. However, if they have large sprouts, have turned green, or are soft, it’s safer to compost them.

Onions and garlic that have sprouted are edible, but they often develop a bitter taste. Don’t eat any onions and garlic that are soft. They are great for composting.

Home canned food should be properly labeled with the date you canned it. Check the lids often to ensure it still has a good seal. Look inside the jar for any signs of mold. Any food in jars with unsealed lids, leakage, discoloration, or bad odors should not be eaten and disposed of properly.
