Maximizing Your Gardening Space: Growing in Grow Bags

Growing in grow bags? Here are two considerations you need to make if you are!

1️⃣Don’t grow vegetables from the cucurbit family (such as cucumbers or squash) because they tend to retain more moisture on the sides of the bags. A moist grow bag is a perfect breeding ground for powdery mildew! Instead try plastic containers, raised beds, or garden beds

2️⃣Grow bags tend to dry out faster, so you’ll definitely want to mulch and frequently monitor your soil’s moisture to ensure it hasn’t dried out.

*Bonus tip: You’ll also want to make sure they’re the right size for the plants you’re growing! Inadequate spacing can really limit root development. For large plants like broccoli, cauliflower and peppers we recommend just putting one plant into a 5 gallon container. We’ve linked the lumox bags we like in our linktree.
