About Beautyberry
American Beautyberry, Callicarpa americana is native to North America. It’s heat and drought tolerant, disease/pest-free and deer do NOT eat it! It’s not fussy about the soil. It grows in zones 6-10, in shade or full sun, and gets to 3-6 feet tall. It fruits best in full sun. Virtually unknown plant native to North America. It’s called the Beautyberry because it’s gorgeous. Typically the berries are magenta. Rare varieties produce berries that are pink (‘Welchs Pink’) or white (‘Lactea’ or ‘Alba’).
The Japanese Beautyberry is Callicarpa japonica. Another Asian variety is Purple Beautyberry (Callicarpa dichotoma).
