Cardboard stops the roots in their tracks and probably sequesters N. I think that section needed a deeper depth of soil above the cardboard layer. I think having the cardboard section in the middle was a genius manipulation of the soil hydrology though. I think water slicks off the side of the cardboard horizontally, similar to a layer of clay sometimes.
I can only dream of having this large of a garden here in the netherlands.

The fence thing was pretty funny. I kind of expected it to be more of a aesthetics over function thing. Wondering how long it would be for a horde of birds to siege it or worse… the big dumb deer. Didn't even phase the rabbits or the skunk. It's the little fence that tried.
The way the intro syncs up perfectly for "My name is jeb" and then the voice while the face stays put 😂

This was a great video. Really enjoyed the comparison. I was considering the difference caused by differing competition between the ends and middle of the row, but realised the grass was acting as a control in that regard as the established root system would likely outcompete the vege anyways.
