Front Yard Garden Renovation Part 2! Instant Boxwood Hedge & Laying a Brick Runner

Today we’re creating an instant formal garden in my front yard garden. A few weeks ago, we removed the overgrown shrubs from the front yard and planted a hydrangea hedge. Today, we’re planting an instant hedge of green mountain boxwoods to line the garden beds and sidewalk. I’m also laying a brick runner and installing solar lighting to give the house a more welcoming appearance.

  1. What a gorgeous update to your front garden! It showcases your house beautifully! I love how you get in there and tackle those big jobs!

  2. Your home looks so lovely and inviting. I realize that it was an awful lot of work, removing the old plantings. But your tremendous hard work has really paid off. This looks effortless and so beautifully executed. You are an inspiration for all of us who want low maintenance gardens. How often and when should you trim the boxwood? When should you trim the hydrangea to keep them in check? I am in Michigan, zone 6 B. I am going to plant an instant hedge next season. Thank you for the perfect solution.

  3. Looks great! I never would have thought of boxwood for that garden, but it’s going to look great all year, especially in the winter. You have such a good eye…and mad design skills!

  4. Your front looks so beautiful !! Never knew about instant hedge u til you used it before, what a great idea !!!

  5. You are soo talented! It looks beautiful Danielle . Looks like you have no rocks? Once I go down the 2-3 inches of soil I put in bag by bag it’s digging rocks sand and gravel that are hard packed. If I didn’t have a “power planter” a big drill with an auger I just couldn’t plant anything big anymore. I’m near the shore where glaciers past depositing tons of rocks and sand. It looks like you can simply dig a hole. Your work is beautiful.

  6. Looks beautiful! Great idea of keeping things as low maintainence as possible, shows that even with that look, that it is still dramatic. Buddy was really cute!

  7. Such a great idea to keep it simple since you've always struggled to figure out what you wanted to do there

  8. Don't know if you check back on 2-day old videos but do suggest "Old House Gardens" Heirloom Bulbs. You seem to like some unique varieties of blooms in your garden. Hope you find them. 😀
