Tour of the Chateau & My Restoration Plans (for the main castle).

Here is the video that many of you have been asking for: the tour of the main castle before its restoration.

In this episode, I share the challenges I have to confront in the restoration of this partly classified historical monument. From the exterior architecture to the interior structures and decoration, I reveal my plans for the future, aiming to restore the château de Dampierre to its former glory, with the hope of one day calling it home 🙂

Antoni.

  1. Regarding repairing the stone that’s been covered in the staircase hall, the lads on the channel Les Jeromes figured out a way to repair their limestone blocks by making a glue with crushed matching coloured limestone to patch the damaged area and it looked the same. Might be worth considering for your walls. Regarding insulation in the top floor, you may possibly lose heat thru the roof without putting something in. I’ve seen a few restorations using the plaster board inserts between the beams and they look fabulous without taking away from the look of the woodwork, in fact enhancing that look. Something to think abt. Photos of all the inscriptions and graffiti could be added to the collection and the previous family’s descendants might appreciate the growing chart image.

  2. Lots of respect….I wish I was in your shoes….I would do the same!
Thank you for the Grand-Tour….I would loove to visit you some time…I live 15 minutes from Delft, Rotterdam….

  3. You can't go wrong with Mansart. The perfect size chateau. Pity about the window panes. On Beacon Hill several houses had window panes turn purple and now they are some of the most desired homes. In fact, I think they are now protected. Thanks for including us.

  6. Weve been following your journey, for a while now. Even though they have suggested to change those windows, you should suggest to keep them? They are beautiful.

  7. 🍎 Hi Antoni,
Beautiful, gorgeous, sunny day this part of the world! Literally!
Enjoyed watching your vlog last night. My daughter and I must say we love your style of dressing! I'm sure it's because you're from Paris and you have that model look!
About your le salon room or as it's called here in America, den or family room. Just wanted you to know if you put the biggest tiles you can find in any room, it's going to open up the floors to fool the eyes that the room is bigger. As opposed to choosing small tiles, as it will give the appearance of the room being a small room because the tiles are small. You can choose the size you want, but bigger tiles are more appealing and makes a statement and looks more grand. The same thing goes for choosing a mirror for a room witg tall ceilings. It's much more beautiful and elaborate to choose the biggest mirrors you can find for your rooms, as opposed to small mirrors as small mirrors will close in the room as well. If you can find fabulous, beautiful big pieces of furniture for any of your rooms to make the room more grand and bigger looking instead of choosing small pieces of furniture. When you go shopping for a particular room or rooms, make sure you write down which room and the size of the wall where you want to put the mirror or the furniture so you have the size of the wall when you go shoping for furiniture or mirrors, then its not a guessing game what size the wall is. Even in small houses if you choose big pieces of furniture or decor, and beautiful large paintings for your chateau, then the appearance of your home looks more appealing, elegant and fabulous looking. Which in our opinion starts from the outside when you choose vases and fountains. We especially love the names of the family members on the wall which would be beautiful to outline it with a bright color of your choice so as to put a simple frame around it so you can see the names of the children better. We personally think as you mentioned there was a lot of children, so the home could of also been an orphanage at some point. As you learn more about the chateau, you can find out more about the history of all the family members that lived there perhaps through the library.
You also mentioned a lot of people are wanting to help you at your chateau. Whoever works on anything that you do for your chateau, make sure you take pictures of before, in between and after the job is completed so there's no misunderstanding with the workers. I would also have them sign what it looks like from both of you before and after. As far as checking out people's references, that's a very good thing, but it can become completely different when they come into your home. So whoever it is that's going to be under your roof at your chateau, make a note of what they say, what they do and what they think, because it can be just the opposite of their reference. Also have them sign to any verbal agreement between both of you what you expect and want from them being in your chateau. We have had situations even with family members that said I didn't say that or I didn't do that, because of no written agreement. The laws here in America to have someone leave from your house, you can't just tell them to leave because you don't agree on something, you have to take your situation to court and it can takes months before you get that person or family member out of your house. It's the worst nightmare to have to wait to have them leave from under your roof that's in your name. Just wanted you to know how to protect and be ahead of games that people will and try to play if they want to. So just be one step ahead of them with written agreements, never verbal agreements. Please read my comment twice.
Au Revoir for now and cheers to your gorgeous chateau!🌴🇺🇲 🇫🇷

  8. Congratulations on your home. What a spectacular place it is. I don't know if this will happen but it would be great to see a movie being filmed there. We are lucky to witness all your work and effort to make this a unique place. Thank you for sharing all the details.

  9. Historical monuments are Bush*. It doesn't make any sense for you to buy a property and still have to follow what they want. Are they going to help you financially by any chance? If it were to be as they want, it would be easier not to sell to people, just to the government. And it's surreal that they force your house to become a museum.

  10. I truly respect your attention to detail to restore with respect to the way the castle was before, but with a view to make it home and comfortable. So may chateau restorations I watch are slaves to what was but using gold paint (!!) to create faux authenticity! As well, rooms are usually decorated with uncomfortable, Victorian style furniture in red faux velvet upholstery. I love that you area creating a home that can be lived in!

  11. Regarding the bats: in Canada, to keep bats nearby to eat mosquitos but to discourage them living in the attic, bat houses are built in areas nearby the house.their importance in eating mosquitos. Too many vilify these animals and don’t recognize their importance as natural mosquito control!

  12. Incredible tour of your castle!! I love your vision for the place and the history behind it.
So excited to watch it transform into your dream!
Love from Mary in Southern California 💗🏰

  13. Wonderful, but where did you get the millions to renovate this beautiful house ? Did you inhereted or gain money with cryptos ?

  14. But do you have to restore the way the advisor tells you? Or will you keep the parts you like? What is your background?

  15. Thanks for the tour Antoni. If I recall correctly, you did a shorter tour of the house in the original video published by So Chateau. This will be a fun project to watch. Cheers-

    Preciosa posesion.

  17. In-sul-late ❤ my mom was Genevois and would annunciate similar to yourself, must say you English is amazing, did you study or live in North America?

  18. I think that for the stairs the solution could be to cover the walls with stone “silces”, more or less 2 cm, to make it more real. And then obviusly put the mortar in the joints!!
