But it really wasn’t so great. A lot of horrible things went on in the Wild West, things that were far from romantic.

No, it was people hunting for buffalo hide, not farmers. There was a bounty on bison that was carried out to destroy large bison herds! Gold miners killed off the Grizzly, that's why the California Grizzly Bear is extinct. It's closest relative is the Alaska Kodiak.

How about the fact that most native Americans died out of European desieses that barely bothered Europeans and consequently reduced thier population by 80%.
