  1. **Please read before stating that nightshade is poisonous**
Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and ground cherries, are in the nightshade family, along with this plant. They are edible/medicinal. Fun fact though, some parts of some of these plants are poisonous. Eating a bucket of raw green tomatoes is not a good idea. Other plants that have "poisonous" chemicals include potatoes, and onions. Edibility of plants can be complicated. Some are poisonous, but can be consumed to certain dosages, or after some processing, and/or have medicinal usage. Some native plants are not edible, but EXTREMELY useful to a permaculture system. Don't eat any wild plants without proper training and education.
*Besides, the point of the video is to show a way to improve your garden for discount prices using free access public land that our taxes pay for, and not to serve as an identification guide for foraging.*

  2. I remember there used to be a medication used a long time ago by doctor's to treat patients with chronic stomach upset that wasn't well controlled by the usual over the counter medicine, but it was from the nightshade family so rarely used. My mother was cautioned to make sure never to give me more than prescribed as it "could be" a respiratory depressant. My Mom, sister and I all hold our breath at night, usually only when we have horrible nightmares. So she was warned. I can never remember the name of the medicine but it worked amazingly with no side effects.

  3. Me! I do this when I find cool plants! And I’m not even a weird old guy. I’m a young (weird) mom. 🤘
