I know what you’re probably thinking. Just an ordinary moss terrarium, right? Wrong. Well, somewhat wrong. Physically, yes, it’s an ordinary moss terrarium. What will be setting it apart from most moss terrariums is that it’ll only be exposed to light from sundown to when I go to bed and the ceiling light in the second pic will be it’s only source of light. I’m well aware that these conditions are not optimal for moss growth. However, as long as oxygen levels will allow it, they WILL be optimal conditions for fungal growth. As a result, I’m expecting this jar to be a springtail’s paradise. Perhaps so much so that I’d be able to use this jar as a springtail culture! 😃 Of course, that’s assuming that the oxygen levels will be high enough to support that many of them. In any case, this is certain to be an interesting experiment. 🙂

Oh btw, Compostarium 2.0 is still doing well. The moss inside it is still a healthy shade of green and decomposition of the banana peel piece is well underway. 🙂 Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any springtails, soil mites, or nematodes in it. If they never show up, then it could take quite a while for the peel slice to break down into compost. 🙁 Stay tuned for its first monthly update! 😃
