California Gardening: Coco Coir + Chips Based Potting Mix – Does It Work?

In today’s episode find out if a coconut coir or coco coir based potting mix using coco coir and coconut chips works well as a potting mix. The advantage of using coconut coir and coco chips in your potting mix is that you do not need to use additional materials like perlite or vermiculite for drainage. This potting mix by itself works very well for growing a wide variety of container plants like flowers, vegetables, fruits and herbs.

In today’s episode we look at a very good coco chips based potting mix by Vermisterra. This coconut coir based potting mix is a great peat moss alternative for creating a great growing medium. We also show you how to mix Vermisterra coconut coir mix with Vermisterra worm castings or earthworm castings to create a very good, nutrition dense, well draining potting mix for container gardening. Container grown plants need good drainage and this coco coir based potting mix is very good for this purpose.

Houseplants do great in this potting mix and its a great potting mix for houseplants.
