I would suggest putting the white fabric over the mounds and tacking them down….all that fresh land and sea in mounds may prove to be too much temptation for kitties ( maybe not for Cheddar and Russell , but Douglas is new to this game lol )
Would you consider planting the daffodils out in dirt lands around the tree border starting next year? It would be gorgeous and the dying foliage won't bother you. Or will it Aaron?!😅
good to see Bethany, she's such a big help!
bagged soil!? pretty ridiculous (on your scale)
Can't wait for the spring for the show of color
My grandpa had a beautiful garden. I was gifted fringed tulip bulbs from his garden and have had beautiful fringed tulips for over twenty years now. I’ve never seen them in my area to buy. Any suggestions where to get more. Enjoy the day.
I had to giggle when Laura is explaining possibly planting the bulbs on the surface and covering with compost. Aaron's planting high method is rubbing off on you Laura! Lol
Love them all but especially topsy turby. Yes trench them. Should look amazing. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🌷🪻🌷🪻
That was smart ! I think it will work like a champ ❤
I think it’s brilliant! And the lines will be straighter this way too.
Guys I wonder what would happen if you left the bulbs in and use that as the path and plant in the walkway and keep alternating.
Will be gorgeous but I can't imagine doing all that work to just pull them out
Jennie Love from Love n Fresh flowers plants her bulbs in the mounted up method every year and she says it works beautifully. When you are done you are left with the best compost because it has sat and aged all winter with roots in the soil so it sounds like a win win! I was thinking about trying it next year!
This will be gorgeous!!! I bet your seed planter that you used for corn could be adjusted to dig a trench.
The gal on “Youcandoitgardening” just throws her bulbs in a hole and doesn’t worry what direction they’re facing. Says they still grow fine.
I live north of Seattle and Land and Sea was $22/bag this spring. I know they probably get it wholesale but still… lots of $$$$ for this project not including the cost of the bulbs “as annuals”. I know it’s a business cost and it’ll be beautiful but WOW.
Looking forward to the result of the planting experiment with the bulbs! Question: if I wanted to plant bulbs in a pot or container, should I plant them now and should I leave them outside? I have glazed pots. Also should I water them?
I hope your method works because that’s what I did a week ago! I covered mine in mulch using our tractor. Easy peasy!
You used the word aug as a verb. Auger came from the OE nafogar which could be described as a nave pike. The naf at the beginning gradually fell out of usage. So there isn't a word like aug that the ending -er could amend to mean the thing that does the action. I totally respect the instinct to Americanize the word and to make it fit neatly into all our other weird grammar rules. But sometimes we picked up words from our hectic Viking past and they just don't work like we expect them to.
Inspirational video, it's going to be beautiful ❣️
Morning Sweet Laura,Aaron,Bethany, Paul B-Man, and Smantha Grace, looks like a great work day., to plan bulbs. They will be so beautiful in the Spring.Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Don't eat to much. Sending my love and God's blessings to you all. Wanda In Ok
Quick question, with that much compost, and the cost of the bulbs, were you able to plant these 4 rows for under a $1000?
Your property is a gift for us, to see all the beautiful things that you do!! 💜💜
The statis was cleared in 5 minutes! Gasp! So fast!
Can't wait to see the beautiful show of color this spring!! I know my kitties would love all that compost…hope your kitties are good boys 😅😊❤
Ohhhhh myyyy 😮 that is going to be spectacular 🙌 😍😍😍😍 I love how Samantha Grace is so sweet to Russell 🥰🐈
How often do you water newly planted bulbs?
"Plant them high so YOU don't die!" 😂 Except carrying that many bags of compost would kill my back. Lol. Wonder if Laura will still have a hard time cutting a lot 😉 I know I would. Hope to see close up shots in the spring, especially of those double tulips, to see how well they each perform. Can you talk about or explain how and when you plant more than one bulb in a hole like you did in the orchard, but didn't decide to do that here? Are the bulbs beside each other or on top of each other or how exactly is that done?
We plant in rows using the mounding method and it works great. We live in a high mountain desert region (even higher in elevation than you), zone 6. 🙂
What a beautiful site it will be next spring!! Hope they do well for you❤
Wind will remove some soil too. It's going to be beautiful ❤
Yee Haw !!! a new exciting adventure in gardening. I'm so glad you talked about rehoming the daffies – my heart was hurting a bit when I thought you might trash 'em … but I've been watching you long enough to know better – haha !! I just got notification my Colorblends order is coming today so I'm getting myself pysch'd up to get out and get planting. Down here just north of Atlanta I already have daffies popping out of the ground – yikes! (we've been warm & dry lately) Looking forward to seeing the burst of color out in this part of your South Garden come Springtime !!!
Experiment!!! And show us 😁 That’s always fun to watch 💗
Did y’all see that the USDA updated the plant hardiness zone map?
Clearly Espoma supports them well as the normal gardener would be broke with using all that land and sea. Can’t wait to see the spring beauty!
Is it true you can use too much compost? I couldn't really understand it, but I was told from my garden center and later looked it up. He said something about the phosphorus content not being able to break down and adding too much salt to rhe soil over time. It can also make it harder for plants to absorb iron. Like I said, I have no idea if that's true, but you guys use a lot of compost so I was wondering if you knew.
Espoma land and sea is $25.00 on Amazon for 1 cubic ft.bag. What makes it so expensive? None of my garden centers near me in southeast Michigan carry it. Is there an alternative? Here in Michigan, my neighborhood has so many mature trees (some over 50 years old) so I have at least 10-15 squirrels in my yard all year long. I gave up on feeding them tulips for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But my daffodils and alliums have naturalized beautifully. I do have to plant them deep because of our cold winters. The squirrels don’t eat them, thankfully. Are there any other types of spring bulbs that the squirrel connoisseurs don’t like to eat?
