Lavender seems to thrive in Mediterranean conditions… and even arid desert conditions. I gave up trying to grow it in clay soil with ample rain throughout the year. Tried all the common tips, and then, we would get three days of decent rain, and with clay soil, that was all it took to cause the downward spiral…

I've just got to pipe up and say, always do lavender from cuttings and not from seed. I garden in the UK and as you will know, we are lavender fiends! It is so hard to grow from seed but SO easy from cuttings.
