Timestamps of Questions:
0:22 -I’d love to know more about your family life! We get glimpses of your kiddos and hubby but I’d love to know what life looks like for them as well. Do you homeschool? If so, what does that look like for your family with such a sprawling and lively homestead?
5:07 -I would love to know more about your life before the homestead. I think I heard you mention you lived somewhere else before? If so what brought you to where you are now?
7:04 -I’d love some tips on figuring out if a doe, especially first time mamas, are bred successfully. Like what to look for, especially since these two girls give no heat indications whatsoever. Minus ultrasound tech/blood draws and such.
9:03 -How would you rate your freeze drying experience this year?
Pros and cons. And have you tried freeze drying your goats milk yet?
12:02 -I think you mentioned in the past that there are ways to improve barn setting to minimize or prevent diseases in goats (especially in the summer months). I may recall having heard something about the feeders? I would love to know if you have any plans for the future or what are good ways to better manage it.
14:34 -Will you being doing any “series” videos? IE.. herbs, teas, preserving, family downtime, beekeeping, sourdough etc.
15:43 -Would love to know how you handle a sick goat. One of my goats just got mastitis. And would love to know what you would do.
19:06 -What kind of markers/ garden tags do you use that at least last the season? No mater what I’ve tried they fade out quickly. Thanks!
20:12 -after growing meat n veggies what does your grocery shopping look like, what types of things do you still have to get from the store regularly?
22:26 -Not farm related but, can we see your beautiful hair down? I loved your braid in your most recent videos!
23:14 -How do you find people in your community to teach you hands-on processing? I’ve looked on Facebook, tried searching for classes, and even tried websites for local farms and haven’t had much luck. I don’t know many people in the area. The people I do know either don’t have animals or just have cattle they send to a processor and don’t do it themselves.
27:11 -I’d like to know what are going to be your deciding factors of when to breed your mini-LaManchas and will they always be bred to other mini LaManchas or would you pair them with NDs?
29:56 -Do we need to test the goats for CL CAE and Johne’s?
32:29 -Would love to know more about your livestock guardian dog experience. (And how you keep various predictors/rats/mice away from your animals and food bins)
35:46 -Is there a way to get rid of ants in the garden?
36:44 -Can you offer virtual training on goat dairy production plan business, I am from Nigeria. No Commercial Goat dairy farm in my country am planning to start one.

  2. Calamity! Love watching your channel Heather! I always learn something and it's obvious that you are very smart so I trust that the information you put out is correct. I consider you a self taught goat expert! Keep coming with the wonderful content.

  3. Calamity Love the video. Thank you so much Levi and Heather. Love and Blessings to you all. ❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏 Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘

  4. Great Q&A!! It's good to see you both again for a live (even though I always seem to miss the 'live' part!) 😊
Not sure how much advice I can give about the start up for a dairy. Until very recently selling raw milk was illegal here in Iowa. Producers had to market through an established co-op. Heifer Project might be a very valuable source of information on how to set up the marketing aspect, especially in another country.
One thing Maaika always tells people interested in beginning a goat dairy is to begin with the best quality does you can afford. Then purchase a buck from exceptional, proven bloodlines & rotate your bucks out every couple years always buying as high a quality as you can find. If you don't CONSTANTLY upgrade your bucks you will quickly loose overall production & quality in your herd. Beyond that, attention to feed quality, health & cleanliness of your herd is all important. Like any job or occupation it takes dedication & time. You've gotta love doing it & love the animals!! Wishing & praying for the best of success for their endeavor!!
Thank you Heather & Levi!! God bless!

  5. Calamity! And thank you for answering my question about labels. Even though I don't have goats or rabbits or bees or quail or homeschool or homestead you're the first channel I check for new uploads!

  6. Calamity …. I’m so thankful to you for all you do. 2023 has been my first attempt at my own veggie garden. I call it year zero because I grew approximately zero to an edible stage but I’m not discouraged. I’ve greatly enjoyed learning. I’ve stuck with you over the summer due to your sincerity and similar zone. I’m 7b in SC. I’ve mastered germination and was able to eat okra, black eyed peas, tomatoes, basil, dill, rosemary, cucumbers, and cucamelons. I’m now focused on improving my soil and understanding fertilizing and spacing to hopefully reach more full size plants next season. Thank you Thank you Thank you for being such a wholesome example. By the way, she’s a precious goat but Calamity does not describe your homestead at all (damage/disaster? No way) I hope you have a goat named Sincerity ❤ That’s you for sure.

  7. Thanks so much for answering my question! 🤍 we’re a homeschooling family of 4 littles (7yo-nb) living on a 1/2 acre here in SoCal and slowly building our homestead. Goats are our next venture and I have really appreciated your real-life approach to vlogging. It’s so refreshing!

  8. Happy Veterans Day Levi…Levi your an amazing husband and father and person and your family is extremely blessed and you can clearly tell they feel the same you can see it in the eyes of your family and the happiness you bring to them…but far and formost…THANK YOU FOR SERVING YOUR COUNTRY…OUR COUNTRY…THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE LEVI!!! My husbands grandpa has passed in 2012 and he was a P.O.W in WWll in Germany and he endured things that most people would have never survive. He had a purple heart but never wanted recognition for anything he’s done or been through, he wouldn’t tell us about anything he didn’t like to talk about it, but my father n law told us many horrific stories. So sad what these men and woman endure when choosing to lay their life down for our freedom…So THANK YOU LEVI!! God has many blessings in store for your sacrifice!! John 15:9-17…God Bless You!!!

  9. Heather your hair is beautiful! I wanted to ask about it when I saw your long braid, but thought it was too personal😂. The braids took me by surprise so immediately I went back to some other videos to see what your hair was like. Noticed then that you always have it up. The braid did shock me and I wondered at first if it was an attachment to your hat😂😂😂😂😂. Loved your question and answer video. TY both.
